Avatar f tn If a certain food spikes you up say over 140 you might try a lesser amount of that food or just eliminate it from your diet. It is not really possible to make a list of foods to eat and not eat because we are all different. But a diet of protein and lots of fresh vegies, small amounts of fruit and small amounts of carbs should do best.

Avatar f tn As a result, the foods with high GI values cause your glucose to rise much faster than the foods low on the GI. Also, eat fruits with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose, fruit sugar. In a nutshell: High GI = simple carbs = high glucose levels Low GI = complex carbs = low to moderate glucose levels The key is test, test, test until you know which foods does what to your glucose levels. Then you will know what to avoid and what to enjoy.
Avatar n tn Avoid alcohol. Eat a healthy diet. You will find that some foods are appealing at times, and unappetizing at other times. You will perhaps not feel like eating sometimes, but I advise you to eat something before taking the ribavarin, as it can be very unpleasant to take the pills on an empty stomach. The manufacturers of ribavarin recommend that it be taken with some fat for better absorption.

Avatar m tn You got some great advice from Sally and all I want to add is that all diabetics are different. Some of us can eat something that would shoot the blood sugar of another diabetic through the roof. The key is to "eat to your meter". Using the guidelines above try various foods you like to eat and then test two hours after your meal and see if you are down under 140. (As Sally said it may take some time of starting on and adjusting to medication before you are able to do this).

7628588 tn?1392763151 Pack one hard boiled egg in your lunch bag, with 3 precooked strips of bacon, a square of cheese. Keep fruit to a minimum. For dinner, eat fish, chicken and occasionally pork and beef. Eat lots of broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts, green beans, and lettuce. No rice, potatoes, and most beans as they are high in carbs. No pasta!! If you really need a slice of bread, look for the "old world" breads available. These contain lots of fiber, and are slow to process. .....

Remember to never start or stop anything without speaking to your doctor first though. Things to avoid would be some of the follow: Greasy, fat foods. Fried foods. Gravies/heavy foods. Try to eat small meals throughout the day. Avoid large amounts at one time. Take small breaks in-between eating and try to eat slowly.

Avatar m tn Hi, You can stick to protein-rich foods and eliminate nearly all fat and limit carbohydrate intake to lose weight. When your body finds that it does not have any carbohydrate easily available to it, it will start breaking down the fat to get energy and ends up burning more calories in the process. You should be careful to include carbohydrates in your diet so that you do not end up developing a carbohydrate craving resulting in binge eating.
Avatar m tn The good is complex carbs, what you should eat. Complex carbohydrate foods are basically those in wholegrain form such as wholegrain breads, oats, muesli and brown rice. Complex carbs are broken down into glucose more slowly than simple carbohydrates and thus provide a gradual steady stream of energy throughout the day. The bad is Simple carbs, what you should NOT eat.
Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.
