You want to be easy on your digestive system, and the stress angle is probably right. You might want to look into meditation or some other relaxation technique that relaxes your body. Personally, I'd go find a holistic nutritionist and experiment until you find a diet that heals you.

In order to lose weight you have to eat less than your BMR. Typically, it's recommended that you cut 500 calories/day to lose 1 pound/week (1 lb = 3500 calories; 500 calories/day X 7 days = 3500 calories.) Or you can cut 250 calories and expend 250 calories via exercise.

Avatar n tn ll never go hungry, but the first week is definitely the hardest with cravings (for me, anyway). There are a number of variations, but that is the basic foundation. After you get past the first week, you can slowly add carbohydrates back into your diet. I always lose weight when I follow this diet too which is nice. :) It's also a good diet for anyone who has pre-diabetes or insulin resistance since it also helps to lower insulin and reset sugar cravings.

If aiming at increasing muscle mass the protein content of the diet should be on the higher side. Eating junk high calorie food can help you gain faster but is not considered a healthy.

The lower the glycemic value, the better. There are a lot of other lists available on the internet - just do a search for "low glycemic foods". Most vegetables "qualify" as low glycemic, except things like white potatoes, etc.

Limiting simple carbohydrates and choosing foods that are less likely to increase blood sugar may help preserve the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin.
