I have been taking lisinonpril 20 mg for blood pressure going about 7 years. The recommended starting dosage of lisinopril for people with high blood pressure is 10 mg, taken once daily.
Your doctor may be increasing based on the blood pressure response and consideration to side effects of lisinopril, the dosage may be increased or decreased. For most people, the normal daily dose is 20 mg to 40 mg.
t know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low.
Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar.

20 mg in 7 am , and 20 mg Lisinopril in 7 pm (so total = 40 mg Lisinopril per day). During the day (systolic) hypertension goes 150-160 mmHg and only in 2-4pm it is 130 mmHg (and at 10-12 pm). What should be done for this patient. Maybe trying a diuretic (hydrochlorthiazid) and lowering the dose of Lisinopril? Please tell what do you think of the doses to start trying, how often and when during the day? (P.S.
You should also get your blood cholesterol, lipid, triglyceride, blood sugar and thyroid levels checked.

What questions should I ask re what type of blood pressure medication I should be on? I tried benicar and lisinopril and caused sinus drainage - however, they worked Then tried hydrochlorothiazide which cause major constipation .... Now on amlopidine beselate and coreq cr and have fatigue....seems the latter meds are overkill as I had only one coronary stent over 10 hrs ago and cardiologist a few weeks ago said my heart is fine.
Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, which works on your kidneys to reduce blood pressure by preventing an enzyme that converts angio-tensin1 into angiotensin2. Angiotensin2 is a strong vasoconstrictor. that blood pressure is high. I was put on Lisinopril 20 mg once a day when my went that high. I have also found that if I take triple strength fish oil (ones that have Omega -3, EPA and DHA), my blood pressure is coming down and don't have to take Lisinopril. Helps Cholesterol as well.
I am 71 years old. About 10 weeks ago my blood pressure went suddenly up to183/87 and went to ER. Doctors did CT scan, x-rays, blood work and found every thing normal. They just gave me anti anxiety medication and sent me home. Also me contact a cardiologist.
The following week I was quite normal and my bp was never more than 130/80. Following week contacted cardiologist as a precaution. He suggested to take Carvidilol 6.25my/Lisinopril 5mg/Simvastatin 25mg/Aspirin81mg.
I am a professional violinist and recently developed an essential tremor in my bow arm which interferes greatly with my playing. My neurologist tried primidone but it has helped only a little. I asked if he could put me on Inderal which I understand can help with essential tremor.

When I started to take the Lisinopril, I would wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and feeling as if I had a panic attach. I sucked it up and got used to the med over time and it stopped happening. My blood pressure is still not really under control, at the doc's office I am slightly up 135/89 etc.
