side effects and withdrawal. I also draw comfort from the posts in this and other threads in the forum because its helped me know what to expect. That understanding has made the process much more bearable. I share my experience with the hope that it might also open a window for others.
I used to never take any meds, but then had the big surgery and went from 0 to about 6 different pills, Nexium, Toprol, Effexor, aspirin, Xanax, Lipitor. I have decided to get off all of them. The Lipitor and Xanax weren't that hard, no major side effects. But I was totally not prepared for the hell getting off Effexor. I applaud each and every one of you for trying to quit this thing.
Lipitor 10 mg three times a week Trazodone 100 mg for sleep Approximately 4 weeks ago, I decided to try acupuncture for treating increased non-specific tremors in my left hand. Overall, I had 9 treatments. During the second week (toward the end of the 9 treatments), I decided to begin weening myself from the above referenced anti-depressant medications.
To me, the non-medical person, the side effects from Zoloft withdrawal are much worse than the side effects from Xanax (which, I am told, is an addictive drug). Also, the psychiatrist is much more concerned about the addicitve qualities of Xanax then she is with actually helping me feel better. I decided that I would be better off if I could just get off everything.
the body through an immediate withdrawal. . .not anything you'd want to have happen, in other words. Maybe you can find some kind of alternative drug or therapy than narcotics for your chronic pain -- I know there are several really knowledgable people on this site who may be able to suggest something. Hang in there in any case, and thanks for your response. . .will be thinking of you.
I hope those studies are a success as the drug has relatively mild side effects. My Doc offered up daily consensus (?) interferon injections as the next strategy, but with his concurrence I elected to take a treatment vacation for a few months to try and get into better physical shape before starting down that road. My cirrhosis gives me a sense of urgency, but I also recognize the stress the meds put on the body and the need to proceed with caution to avoid doing more harm than good.
She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.
I am very disgusted in my doctors pill-pushing, casual approach in explaining what is involved by taking a drug like Lexapro, its side effects and any withdrawal problems it may pose. I will be searching for a new physician. I am also disappointed with myself for not taking a higher initiative in my own health. If I've learned anything from this, it is that I must research and question any drug I may ingest and its effects on my total physical and mental health.
My symptoms sound like those caused by taking lipitor but I'm wondering if going off of it could be a form of withdrawal? Any insight would be most helpful.
I was going to start on Effexor as my doctor says that is the best one, but having looked up the side effects from other users and I'm not too sure. Also I tried to take it for a couple of days and felt quite strong side effects (although it was probably not long enough to really work out whether it suited me). So he has given me Citalopram instead. I was hoping I could get some advise from people to which one they would recomend?
My doctor started 450 mg tablet of Gemfibrozil and 30 mg of Pioglitazone in the mornings and 10 mg of Atorvastatin (lipitor) at nights with the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome and grade I fatty liver. after 4 months without any symptomatic drug side effects, the blood test results are: [WBC:8400, HG:15.4, HCT: 47.6 FBS:91, UREA:27, CR:1, URIC ACID 6.9, CHOLESTROL 178, TRIGLYCERIDE 242, HDL 32, LDL 88, AST 37, ALT 113, FE 110, TIBC 340, FERRITIN: 277, MG: .88, HB A1C:4.
even due to adverse side effects , they more less try to ban aid patch over the bad side effects with another drug , that most times causes more side effects to happen ! its Playing God ! Toprol had the most side effects - out all the beta blockers I took ! the worst being Hair loss - and vision problems and rapid waight ! long term useage also can cause - blood sugar to go high or low.. and can cause diabetes to happen ! the drug makers know this !
Her father was a math professor and so she understands this mathematical lingo she speaks with my lipitor brothers. I don't take lipitor. Neither do three of my younger brothers. Apparently this particular side effect hasn't struck my lipitor brothers or my mother yet. Something happened to the rest of us though 'cause we non lipitor siblings sit with our eyes glazed over and our mouths open when the lipitor side of the family speaks.

You may only find an answer to your question by discontinuing all alcohol and (if you're using it) tylenol, then, after, say, a month, getting tested again and comparing the results. Alcohol's harmful effects on the liver are well established - same with tylenol. Recently, there have been some stories in the newspapers about people dying from liver failure after combining the two. Of course, different people have different sensitivity levels to these substances.

The prilosec had side effects and it just made me so mad to have side effects from the treatment for the side effects of my meds...ugh!
I've been off of mine for 4 days now and I don't know I would have started on it in the first place had I known what the withdrawal would be like. I've been on Zoloft and Wellbutrin in the past and neither were even close to the severity of coming off of this one. The zapping feeling in my head and eyes is awful as well as the tingling in my hands. I haven't slept more than 4 hours a night in about a week so it's just hitting me all around.
I have refused painkillers in the past because of the side effects, but now I really need to alleviate the pains I'm currently dealing with. Thanks for your help.
My psychiatrist decided to first wean off the Paxil prior to starting another medication. During this time I experienced many of the same withdrawal side-effects being described with Effexor. I eventually was started on Effexor with good results as far as my depressive symptoms. Although not exactly sure why, I feel that I no longer require the medication. It likely has something to do with a decrease in my overall stress level which was associated with my professional training.
Well your story sounds all too familiar. I would probably advise getting treatment for anxiety disorder and perhaps find a med that can ease your mind a little and allow you to live while managing both your anxiety and life in general. Its not easy but I think you will find its not hard to be anxious when dealing with heart related issues. I wish I could tell you do this or that but as my own cardiologist put it ..."You need to find your own spirituality and put yourself at some ease ...
nl=1 ------------- As I mentioned last time, I've been on Lipitor 100mg with good results. However, it appears that I've been experiencing some fatigue -- and *possible* minor muscle issue -- so my plan is to stop the Lipitor for a few weeks and see how I feel. If I feel the same (conclusion: Lipitor isn't causing those sfx) then I'll go back. If I feel better, then the plan was to try Red Yeast Rice Extract or possibly a yeast-derived statin (Lipitor is synethic) like Lovastatin.
He wants to focus on the issues and not stray into academic dialogue about neuroprotective effects of Lipitor, Zocor, or Ginkgo Biloba. Hence my question to the CCF Neuro M.D., which, although clearly isn't appreciated by other posters, will in the next decade CHANGE the way medicine is practiced and increase the understanding of Alzheimer's disease, or at least explore and clarify the relationship between APOE 4 and AD.....
I would normally be well into withdrawal by now. I have high blood pressure this medication may be ideal for me. One author commented that this is a far superior medication for high blood pressure than the expensive newer drugs. It does not get much press because it is very cheap and has long since been a generic. The only precaution that I could find about clonidine is rebound hypertension. One would have to wean off of it.
It has absolutely no side effects but helps build nerves, or something like that. Natrol is the only company that makes it in such a high dose. The BMS It doesn't go away on that, but it makes it so you don't really think about it and can eat most things again. I also had sores, but they got much better when I started on a Protonic Pump (antacid like Protonix or Nexium), and only come back when my sinuses are irritated or my GERD is acting up, so acid/mucous are irritating my tongue.
They come and go throughout the day and are very disruptive to my thinking of 'what's going on with me? - which I'm guessing only breeds more anxiety. The only other med I'm on is Lipitor for cholestorol. I'm reluctant to try any anti-anxiety meds since I had a bad bout with cymbalta a few months back and I really don't feel as though I need it. I just want the pain to stop. I've tried numerous relaxation and meditation methods which are very calming and helpful, but still the pain comes.
I was an avid marijuana user until about a month ago and began to think maybe it was because I had stopped and this was some type of withdrawal symptom. However, that didn't make much sense cause I had previously stopped for about this length of time once before and never experienced this symptom. Like most my only wish is that there was an expert ON THIS SITE WHO COULD HELP WITH SOME TYPE OF DIAGNOSIS!
