1583640 tn?1296674030 m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.
Avatar n tn I am 25 male and been on lipitor 20mg for almost 2 months. No side effects.
10996785 tn?1432812977 No one told me about lipitor side effects. I literally felt like my body was freezing up. When I Googled it, they referenced ALS like symptoms. This really blew my mind. (spill the wine). They say it may take a month or longer to feel a little bit better. The blood work being ok is a big thing all of a sudden. I have a low grade side effect. I'm weaning off trazodone now, next neurontin, then nortripyline. Maybe. Better days ahead. Maybe...
Avatar n tn It's normal and those numbers are not really high. A couple things, first off doctors don't get too concerned until these get over 300. Also, statins have been show to be harmless to the liver. In fact, the FDA no longer recommends that doctors do additional blood tests to check for effects of a statin on the liver. Ask you doctor when they would like to retest.
Avatar n tn Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the information, see the problem is that I have tried so many hbp meds and they give me really bad side effects, they have tested my liver function and kidney function and they are fine. I've had 24hour urine done a bunch of times and been tested for every and anything. My Gp has diagnosed me with primary hypertension(I guess genetic-I'm 5"10" 183lb.) all of the bp meds give me bad side effects.
Avatar n tn was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?
Avatar n tn So, I have no idea about my present liver condition at all. I asked the doctor last December about some side effects I had, but he told me that these effects will gone when Pegasis treatment is over. But I still feel them. Isn't there any of liver support medicines are present to maintained my health? Is it really so important to continue taking Lipitor and Folbee tablets? Is there something to substitute them? Thanks for your reply guys.
1463256 tn?1286028981 Most doctors seem to think statin side effects are due to something else so they do not report them, and because they do not report them as side effects they do not see them on any side effect list.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Hey guys. I post in different communities here. I know that it's known that lipitor has the side-effect of muscle tiredness and aches. Has anyone else have to deal with this? Man it's off the hook. I almost am paralyzed fro, lipitor. This horrible and I would like to talk to someone who's been through it. This is a very under-rated affliction IMO. I've been tested and it doesn't look like I have the Rabdamolysis<sp? That spelling isn't even close.
Avatar f tn I am not familiar with Lipitor, but I did google it, side effects of taking it r muscle pain....fibro has a tender point test and is the result after ur dr has eliminated other conditions that share the same symptoms...see the health pages to the right of the screen...scroll down......ur best bet would be to see ur dr.
Avatar n tn I had no problems at all with that med. Then when the generic for Lipitor came out, she put me on that. I guess to save me money. I was having constant daily headaches. Neurologist treated it as Migraines. MRI was normal. Still having some migraines weekly now. But my neurologist says I'm fine and that I am clear to return to work. I told him what all else I was feeling in my head and he just blew it off.
Avatar f tn I have always been monitored every 3_4 months with blood work and he put me on this lipitor 7/11 and I complained about the ide effects and he still increased it in 10/11 because he didn't see liver damage to 80mg from 40mg along with the 200mg of fenofibrate.
Avatar m tn Did the Dr do any other blood work like Hepatitis A or B. Lipitor has been known to raise Liver enzymes. It is a side effect for some people. It cannot cause Hepatitis C. You Dr needs to do more evaluating.
Avatar f tn 20-30 years? I think he means it will start to reduce your risk in a few days. You don't have to be 70-80 years old to get heart problems. I had three bouts of MI at the age of 47. Everytime my prescription is renewed, I read the leaflet with possible side effects which is a mistake because there are so many. However, when they run trials, you will be surprised how many people state new symptoms even when taking the placebo.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Well, I'll start with telling you a little about my health. I've type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high trig. (hereditary on mother's side). I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.'s once a day and lipitor 10 mg.'s once a day for about 6 yrs. now. I've now been taken off the medicine's now due to high liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2008.
Avatar m tn Many people can get competely off Lipitor if they make a very serious change in diet. Often the motivation is the unpleasant side effects they experience from the drugs. You are only 33, it would be wise to find a way to the future without drugs. But you may have to be motivated both for a true dietary change as well as for stopping the smoking.
907968 tn?1292622204 In fact, the folks doing the study have recommended that the mention of side effects on the liver be removed from the patient information leaflet.Overall, the risk of side effects from statins are 1 in 2,200 making statins one of the safest drugs available. Also, the risk of side effects to the nervous system is .025% of those on statins which compared to .021% in the placebo control group based on the Jupiter study.
Avatar n tn s more of which one your body will tolerate the best. Different brands seem to show different side effects in many people. Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
Avatar n tn My brother had the same results, my sister did fine on Lipitor, absolutely no obvious side effects, and we have all been on statins. We all have genetically high cholesterols, and I'd urge you to continue to try different statins. I tried to get my cholesterol down using natural products, including Omega 3 and ended up with eight stents and two heart attacks, so cholesterol control to me is essential. I still take Omega 3 medication (Lovaza) to help control Triglicerides.
Avatar m tn TC 211 HDL 29 TRG 164 LDL/HDL 5 GLU 96 I did not relax my strict Mediterrean diet nor hard daily exercise. Now I take the side of statins in the on-going controversy on whether they do any good or not. (I dropped Crestor to see if i twas the cause of my two-year bout of night sweats. I still have them.
