I am 25 male and been on lipitor 20mg for almost 2 months. No side effects.

Some of the statin drugs, like the one you're taking, can cause joint/muscle pain. My mom had to stop taking Lipitor because of severe leg pain. Before you ask your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist, do some research into the side effects of your meds. There are some web sites out there that let you input all your meds and supplements, and check for side effects and adverse interactions. Another good source of information is your local pharmacist.

m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.

Check out the side-effects of Lipitor. That particular statin has a lot of side-effects, some very serious. There is a website (not sure of the web address but you can Google it) called Stopped Our Statins. There is a lot of good information on there. I would look at the side-effects of the Lipitor before panicking that it might be something else. There are many new statins out there that don't cause so many side-effects. Hope this helps.

Is the Lipitor doing damage to his joints as well as causing pain? Is there any other medication with less side effects?

No one told me about lipitor side effects. I literally felt like my body was freezing up. When I Googled it, they referenced ALS like symptoms. This really blew my mind. (spill the wine). They say it may take a month or longer to feel a little bit better. The blood work being ok is a big thing all of a sudden. I have a low grade side effect. I'm weaning off trazodone now, next neurontin, then nortripyline. Maybe. Better days ahead. Maybe...

I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain. My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor. While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.

I have just started to experience severe leg cramps, leg tiredness and soreness. After this much time, is it possible to develop these symptoms???

I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.

Which is more risky, having a stroke or heart attack due to the very high cholesterol or experiencing severe mucle pain due to the side effect of the Statin. I don't want both of them! Did anyone here experience bad effects of a Statin drug? If yes, what are they? Has anyone experienced severe muscle pain due to the drug? If you did, what did you do? What are my other choices besides Statin? I am also experiencing PVCs lately and it really scares me.

I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.

Hi all, My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. We both - husband and wife, have been experiencing these symptoms. We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's.

thanks for the suggestion about lipitor - I will discuss as well. I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.

Thanks for the information, see the problem is that I have tried so many hbp meds and they give me really bad side effects, they have tested my liver function and kidney function and they are fine. I've had 24hour urine done a bunch of times and been tested for every and anything. My Gp has diagnosed me with primary hypertension(I guess genetic-I'm 5"10" 183lb.) all of the bp meds give me bad side effects.

There are a number of reasons to have leg cramps and different types of leg cramps. I dont think the development of cramps in the legs would have any relationship to stents in the blood vessels of the heart. If there is any relationship beyond coincidence, perhaps it is that medications like diuretics to treat hypertension and heart disease can cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances which can predispose one to night time cramps.

Hi, if the blockage in the artery has resolved, then the goal has been accomplished. The symptoms you experience could be side effects of the medications, but please check to see if these are due to vitamin deficiencies. Take a balanced diet rich in plenty of fruits and vegetables. Regards.

Within a few months I had severe muscle pain and loss of strength. I was taken off Lipitor. My current LDL is about 180 and use Flax Oil and Niacin supplements daily. Since beginning Lotrel in 2007 I have had a recurrence of severe muscle pain and weakness. I also suffered heat exhaustion in 2006 and now cannot tolerate more than 6 hours in, 90degree plus, heat. I sometimes have night sweats, and chills. My feet are so painful that I take Advil to sleep.

You may even call your pharmacy, they will be more qualified to answer. Remember, Lipitor is much stronger and usually will have more side effects and much depends on why you got off it in the first place.
