612876 tn?1355514495 Please read the recall notice if you take 40 mg pills of Lipitor and think this may be relevant to you. Contact your pharmacy for verification if you're still not sure if your medicine is safe after reading: http://www.drugs.com/fda/lipitor-atorvastatin-40-mg-recall-specific-bottles-12833.html http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm228998.
Avatar m tn Until then, there is no real risk of stopping a statin except that your numbers may return to an unhealthy level. As Ed has said, these numbers will help keep you from developing heart disease, but the concern is any effects that the statin may be causing. You should be getting annual blood tests to check your liver functions and watching for signs of muscle damage. Having said that, statins are very safe and side effects are quite rare.
Tbd No pain or aches for me, associated with using that one. Great blood numbers as well. Lipitor did not go so well...body aches became the norm. I recently started on Simvastatin...so far so good...but I have been on it for only a month or two.
Avatar n tn It's normal and those numbers are not really high. A couple things, first off doctors don't get too concerned until these get over 300. Also, statins have been show to be harmless to the liver. In fact, the FDA no longer recommends that doctors do additional blood tests to check for effects of a statin on the liver. Ask you doctor when they would like to retest.
Avatar n tn My most recent numbers ( no medication) are as follow: Total 306, Triglycerides 54, HDL 90, LDL 205, ratio 2.3 I am a 60 year old female. Statins affect my liver; I have been on Lipitor and simvastatin (Zocor) I have no major health problems, eat a good diet, only a few pounds too many, not enough exercise. What can I do to lower my LDL number?
Avatar n tn Her total cholesterol numbers look good but if the other numbers are out of balance that could be the reason her Dr prescribed meds. I'm surprised your Dr put you on meds. They want your total number to be 199 or below, but the same thing, if your other numbers are out of balance then that could be why your on meds. Diet changes can some times easily get your numbers back down. The reason for the cost difference is your meds are not generic and your wife's are.
Avatar n tn I had a 100% occclusion of the LAD immediately beyond the circumflex junction four yrs ago, all my other coronary arteries were quite clean on the angiogram and I did have a stent put in. I evidently had a lot of covascularization, for there was little pain and no real decrease in my high activity level. My last nuclear stress test, a yr ago, I went 17 minutes on the treadmill and everything checked out.
Avatar n tn We both - husband and wife, have been experiencing these symptoms. We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's.
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
179856 tn?1333547362 Oh phew. Thanks for adding that info, Bill. I'm far from being on treatment let alone on procrit but considering the implications for those that are, was finding this quite alarming. Thanks to both nygirl and Bill for posting.
Avatar m tn clearly above normal... doctor advised him t leave the use of lipitor. my question t you is ... by leaving lipitor will the count decrease?? or what should be done?? and is it possible that he gets infected with HCV by the use of lipitor, is it possible? how far has his liver been damaged?? waiting for your answer :(((( m really worried!! ..thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn I have been on statins from the age of 39 from one Med to another because my numbers would not come all the way down to normal I got a new Dr last year and he changed all my meds, started with lipitor 40mg vit d 50.000 units a weeks allopurinol.
Avatar n tn Her doctor took her off Lipitor 6 months ago due to elevated AST/ALT levels (160/200). Four months of no lipitor lowered her numbers to 20/24. He put her back on Lipitor (cholesterol was up to 236). Within one month being back on Lipitor, mom started having the symptoms listed above. She was admitted at the hospital where CT scan (normal), biopsy (inconclusive, inflammation present), ultrasounds of the entire abdominal area (normal) were done.
Avatar n tn Its looks to me that I am losing my fat and muscles after being on metformin and asprin which I started in November 2004. I had been on Synthroid on last 18 years and lipitor (10 mg) for last 4 years. The dose of metformin is 300mg, 1 tablet 3 times a day. Synthroid is 125 (micro-mg) 1 tablet a day. I take my Synthroid early in the morning and metmorphin after meals and lipitor in the night. It looks like for the last 3-4 months my weight has come to 55kg. I think last year my weight was 59kg.
390388 tn?1279636213 Hi. Well I still don't understand how exactly the numbers work dispite alot of help I just don't get it. My numbers have never really been that bad; but, my symptoms have. ????? Wish it was the other way around. Anyhow I'm just going to throw it out there. T4 range is 6.1-12.2, the TSH is .34-5.6 and the FT4 is .58-1.6 back when I started taking levothyroxine back in April of this year.
Avatar f tn I'm 45 years old an had bypass surgery 8 weeks ago. I haven't been able to sleep without an Ambien(sleeping pill) for the last 5 weeks. I was wondering how long it may be before I can sleep without a pill. I'm currently taking Toprol, Iron, 81 Asprin, Plavix, Primovel and Lipitor. My doctor wants to change my Lipitor to Vytorin. I have heard the Vyrotin doesn't work. Any thoughts? Also how long do the grafts last in your heart? Mine were taken out of my leg.
10996785 tn?1432812977 I was very scared before I realized what was causing this severe problem.. Now I know that lipitor has helped a lot of people, it brought my cholesterol down a bunch very quickly. Frankly i would rather have high cholesterol. I did have a stroke at the end of November, small, deep in the cerebellum. Hence the lipitor.
11079760 tn?1483386130 I know we've addressed this in a recent thread, but I just have to share that I just forgot my house address. I've lived here for almost 10 years, and I suddenly couldn't remember my house numbers. I went back & forth between 2 digits - one is right and one is not. Can this just be because I'm highly distracted with other issues (read: STRESSED) right now? I hate that these things are happening more & more frequently.
Avatar f tn has me taking Lipitor for about that same amount of time for lowering cholesterol. Does Lipitor or any statin help prevent further carotid artery blockage?
Avatar n tn Hi there, In my experience the Adco-Simvistatim is not a good Statin - not as strong as the original: Lipitor. I also have familial-high-cholestorol and have been on Lipitor since my early 20's and for the past 6 years I was on 20-40-60mg Nexium. The 6 months that I was on Simvistatim, my Trigs went up and when I changed to Lipitor, my levels came down and is still under control. Just check your levels again in about 3 months, but try to get Lipitor/Aspavor instead.
