Impossible lipitor can cause liver enzymes to increase. Actually, your comments about liver failure is not correct. Recent studies have found that statins like Lipitor acutally improve liver function in patients with liver disease and the incidence rate of liver failure is not turning out to be as high as originally thought. In fact, the FDA is considering dropping the liver failure side effect from the patient leaflet and consumer information.
I drink socially and take liptor and was wondering in that I only drink in the evenings if it's better to take the lipitor in the morning in order for the liver to metabolize the alcohol at night. Or is the liver simply distributed evenly over a 24 hour period making the time you take it with alcohol irrelevant.
Does drinking 1.5 - 2.0 oz of scotch or bourbon within an hour or two of taking 20 mg of Lipitor create an elevated risk of Liver or Kidney dysfunction?
About a month ago my liver function readings were elevated, so my Doctor took me off Lipitor to see if it was the Lipitor or alcohol consumption causing them to be high. He told me to come back in one month to be tested again. Even without the Lipitor, they went up some to 74 AST and 142 ALT. Now he wants me to go to get a GI Specialist. I asked if this was for more testing, he just said no, but they would be better off determining what medication you should be on.
getting the ultrasound is a good idea. you could have a touch of fatty liver. its not unusual for the liver tests to rise somewhat while taking statins and this itself is not a contraindication to using the medicine. your docs should come up with a reason for your muscle symptoms which can clearly be related to the statin use.
My doctor tested for SMA after routine liver tests (I was taking Lipitor) were slightly elevated (in the 40s). When the positive SMA results came back, I then found out about my Alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency heterozygous carrier status. My triglycerides have always been fine. My good cholesterol is high, but my bad cholesterol is now higher than normal again and my regular doctor wants me back on Lipitor. I am very hesitant due to the Alpha-1 carrier status and the autoantibodies.

Statins are known to have the adverse effect of liver enzyme elevation, which is generally asymptomatic. Severe liver damage as a result of statin is virtually unknown. The current clinical practice is to discontinue statin when the liver enzymes have increased to more than three times the upper limit of normal. Although zetia on its own does not generally cause liver enzyme abnormalities, it might potentiate the enzyme abnormalities, when coadministered with a statin.

Drs said it was caused by taking Lipitor. He had history of a fatty liver also. sn95, your Rx dose is pretty high. So it is possible that all the lifestyle change combined with med caused the significant drop. However, I just came back from my doctor's office who gave me a GI referral to check for potential liver disease. I had a LDL drop from 170s to 50s and TG increase from 100 to 200 during the same time, accompanied by abdominal pain, bloating, mid-back pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, etc.
Muscle aches and pains or even burning and tingling can be due to Lipitor. This drug can cause kidney and liver dysfunction and this may cause the feeling of internal shakiness. I suggest you get a kidney and liver function test and talk to your doctor regarding all this being due to Lipitor.
It is difficult to bring down a BP of 155/110 by diet and exercise only. However if there is an underlying cause such as kidney or liver problem, then treating the cause may help.
t take plavix in the morning and in the evening take lopressor 50mg and lipitor 80mg. I had been at least 4 hours since i took these two medication lopressor and lipitor. Is it ok to take zantac 150mg for heart burn .
I have been on Lipitor since emergency bypass surgery in 2005. Prior to this I never suffered from cholesterol issues, so the Liptor is protocol after bypass. I have just started to experience severe leg cramps, leg tiredness and soreness. After this much time, is it possible to develop these symptoms???
