519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now. I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.
603543 tn?1255294450 Good Afternoon, It is worth noting that Wyeth Pharmaceuticals currently has a patent for Effexor XR. While there is a generic extended release version of venlafaxine available, it is not exactly the same as the brand name (Because of the patent). The headaches you are experiencing may be caused by some of the inert ingredients in the generic brand. Knowing this, I would take the samples back to your Dr. and continue using the brand name since you already know it works for you.
1801781 tn?1461629469 I am having to switch to the generic version of Lexapro as it is now available. Insurance wants the change and I am OK with it as the cost will be less. My question is has anyone been on it and can they tell a difference??
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.

612551 tn?1450022175 My cardiologist told me that patent for Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) is about to expire, or has already do so, and the price will drop dramatically. He also mentioned that the patent on Lipitor is about the expire, and pharmicutical companies are licking their chops for that one. I'm on Simvastatin, and he plans to switch me as soon as the price drops on Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium). as he claims it's a much better drug. So, no, you're not alone.
Avatar f tn it is a wrong name for drugs just to make more money for the first drug maker who did the drug generic is the same drug made from another drug maker, this is why the name generic is very wrong, generic sounds like the drug is different but only drug maker is different.
Avatar m tn Patents are for seventeen years, and in some cases may be extended. Foradil is manufactured by Shering-Plough and the patent expires March 2019. No "generic" Foradil may be manufactured in the United States until after that date. It is an expensive drug, but highly effective. Although not approved for the purpose, it acts rapidly and well in an emergency.

Avatar m tn I recently read that Interferon may not have a Generic even after patent expiring, due to companies not wanting to invest the large amounts of money it takes to manufacture injected or infused medication. As much as I dislike the rules and limitations of the insurance companies, I do this for a living as an Insurance Broker. With all of us in the U.S.
Avatar m tn When a patent for a brand name drug expires, pharmaceutical company can make a generic form of the drug. Effexor patent expired in 2006, since then several generics are available. Those generics are usually cheaper but they must contain the same active ingredient(s), the same dosage form, at the same dose or concentration, and for the same route of administration. The generics are usually cheaper and can use different inactive ingredients and preservatives which can sometimes cause trouble.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Hi there! I'm thankful for this site to get a insight into understanding medical diagnoses. Before I get started, I would like to thank you for all you do and taking the time in reviewing my post. Well, I'll start with telling you a little about my health. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar n tn Protecting the brand has advantages over generic regarding consistency of levels. the generic is levothyroxine". Huh? What on earth does that answer mean? "Protecting"? "consistency of levels?" It sounds like he's saying that the Synthroid is preferable to the generic (but the same as Levoxyl)? Yes? If so, why would a brand name be better than a generic?

704043 tn?1298056844 Unfortunately for all of us on Copaxone, the patent does not expire until 2014. Teva Pharmaceuticals has exclusive rights until then at least. Avatar n tn This med is generic for Lipitor, as you probably already know. I've researched and there is nothing about anger problems. The best thing to do is ask your Dr or pharmacist if this could be a possible interaction. When did you start the Zoloft? I'm asking because anger and personality chances could be a side effect of this med.

Avatar n tn You also need to check if Generic Effexor XR is avalible in your area of the world. I heard that the patent was up and this means that it should be avalible in a generic formula that is the same as Effexor XR. If not then you doctor should have no problem writing you a script for the name brand Effexor XR. Just call him and say "hello doc, thatks for the generic Venlafaxine, but I prefer name brand Effexor XR." He should have no problem with this at all.
