lipitor

519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now. I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.
Avatar f tn Dr had changed from Lipitor (generic) to Pravastatin 40 mg, but still horrible muscle pain. Dr wants to put on another statin( saying this has less side effects) and extremly expensive...But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Dr. Schiano, Hi there! I'm thankful for this site to get a insight into understanding medical diagnoses. Before I get started, I would like to thank you for all you do and taking the time in reviewing my post. Well, I'll start with telling you a little about my health. I've type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high trig. (hereditary on mother's side). I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar n tn This med is generic for Lipitor, as you probably already know. I've researched and there is nothing about anger problems. The best thing to do is ask your Dr or pharmacist if this could be a possible interaction. When did you start the Zoloft? I'm asking because anger and personality chances could be a side effect of this med.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.

I've now been taken off the medicine's now due to high liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2008.
Avatar m tn Generic Lipitor Recall http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/news/20121126/generic-lipitor-recall?
Avatar m tn You can exchange the prescription at the pharmacy for the Brand Name, I did that when they tried to switch me from Lipitor with some generic made in India, which I refuse to take because of quality control issues.
Avatar m tn The generic drug for Lipitor has been recalled if you are on this medication contact your pharmacist. Recalled for possible glass particles in the pills.
482517 tn?1208551378 Yep, Lipitor, Toprol, (actually the generic of Toprol, but I don't know how to spell it) and Zetia. I take an otc niacin supplement. When I started taking all this stuff, I did really bruise easily and bleed a bunch from nicks and such. Never had a nosebleed problem. But, all this lasted only a short time, probably less than a year. Don't have nearly as much trouble with it recently. I'm kind of assuming that it's something that the body gets used to over time.
Avatar n tn I had no problems at all with that med. Then when the generic for Lipitor came out, she put me on that. I guess to save me money. I was having constant daily headaches. Neurologist treated it as Migraines. MRI was normal. Still having some migraines weekly now. But my neurologist says I'm fine and that I am clear to return to work. I told him what all else I was feeling in my head and he just blew it off.
Avatar m tn I appreciate your point of view Jon and I was confused by posts when I returned to have a look here, BUT MONEY IS A HUGE CONCERN. Perhaps not for Lipitor because it's generic now. But if more people were concerned about saving in more places in years past.......well, you know where that is going. Health care is hardly even about health care anymore. It's big business gone bad. Avatar f tn I had several TIA's 5 years ago. A history of strokes runs in my mother's family. You need to take this very seriously. I still have memory problems which the doctors say is a combination of aging and the TIA's. I take lipitor (generic) and plavix (generic) because of my (and family) history. You definitely need to stop smoking, exercise, watch your diet and monitor your salt intake.
Avatar f tn 10 mg/day of atorvastain (generic versin of Lipitor.) I started having muscle aches, so I take Co-Q10 every night (200 mgs.) It helps, but truth be told, I'm always in pain all over my body; I just suck it up (I have high pain tolerance.) But back to the subject of my post: Since I started the statin, but stomach and bowels are a mess. I've always suffered with IBS, but through diet and exercise it was well under control for the past 20 years.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn , 3 years of ADT, 2006 bilateral orchiectomy, cholesterol levels, currently taking lipitor 40, blood sugar elevated, probably metabolic syndrom. What is best course of treatment? This discussion is related to Radiation treatment options for recurrent prostate cancer.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar f tn my father has congestive heart failure- is in the hospital and they are only treating him with Lasix- stating that it is Lasix or major surgery- those are the only 2 options. This does npot sound right to me. Please help. My father iks 93. Is on lipitor, blood pressure in the normal range- but can be high at times, but not consistently, no other medical conditions. He is short of breath and his right arm is all swollen up today.
Avatar n tn Is the Nuva Ring okay to use while on Lipitor? Is the Nuva Ring not recommended for people with High cholesterol? My Lipitor is 10 mg. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I took lipitor for twenty years without problems until menopause and the dose was raised from ten to twenty mg. I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.
Avatar f tn Seven years ago he was told he had high cholesterol and placed on Lipitor. He immediately quit smoking, eats a paleo diet, lifts weights 1 1/2 hrs - 5 days a week. Recently, he began to have shortness of breath during his workouts and noticed his stomach was bloated. The cardiologist said he was 80% sure he had a blockage in the front descending artery. However, the heart cath showed no blockage. The Dr that did the cath said he has extremely small arteries that taper off to nothing.
