My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.

Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now. I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.

Generic Levothyroxine is not held to the same quality standards during manufacture that Synthroid is. Every time you get your perscription refilled you are taking the risk of taking a different strength of medication. That's why it's cheaper, and that's why smart doctors won't perscribe it. Lipitor should not be taken by anyone taking Levothyroxine, either. As for the superiority of socialized medicine, don't even start.

I seen my cardiologist today and he found out Bystolic is not available here in canada. I guess it didn't pass our food and drug regulations, so now Im going to try almighty- (Acebutolol) 200mgs twice a day if that doesn't reduce pvc palpitations, bump it up to 400 mgs twice a day.. Finally, the PF people at Pfizer told me that while the firm recommends that the Lipitor pills NOT be broken in half or cut in half, they do say that it is perfectly okay to do this under doctor's prescription or recommendation, and that there is no negative downside at all to cutting Lippy in half. You can exchange the prescription at the pharmacy for the Brand Name, I did that when they tried to switch me from Lipitor with some generic made in India, which I refuse to take because of quality control issues.
