Avatar m tn I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
1583640 tn?1296674030 m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.
Avatar m tn You may even call your pharmacy, they will be more qualified to answer. Remember, Lipitor is much stronger and usually will have more side effects and much depends on why you got off it in the first place.

Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar m tn and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
Avatar n tn My pressure was at 193/82 and 187/85 when I awoke with these symptoms. I currently take lipitor, synthroid, atenenol and furosamide. There has been no adjustments to these since increasing minoxidil. My diuretic is taken at the same time w/minoxidil at 6:30 am and again at 6:pm. My answer from the doctors office to my symptoms was to let it take it's course for another week.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Elevated blood sugar levels have been reported with statins, including LIPITOR. Common side effects are diarrhea, upset stomach, muscle and joint pain, and changes in some blood tests. 1463256 tn?1286028981 Lipitor tends to have more side effects although most are minor and the rate of incidence runs between 1% -10% with serious side effects risks well under 1%. It would help to know what your actual numbers are.
Avatar n tn When I complained about the side effects to my doctor, he said that sometimes patients have fewer side effects if they take ibuprophen at the same time. I tried that for a week but found taking the ibuprophen did nothing to lower my side effects, so I stopped.
Avatar f tn Hello, Photosensitivity is not a known or reported side effect of the drug Lipitor. There are however other many side effects for which you should keep an eye and if they happen then consult your doctor. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Check out the side-effects of Lipitor. That particular statin has a lot of side-effects, some very serious. There is a website (not sure of the web address but you can Google it) called Stopped Our Statins. There is a lot of good information on there. I would look at the side-effects of the Lipitor before panicking that it might be something else. There are many new statins out there that don't cause so many side-effects. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Studies have found no links to incremental side effects with long term use. Your dosage is quite small, most all side effects occur with doses of 80 mg per day. Just make sure to get your blood tested annually to make sure there are no changes in your liver enzymes.
Avatar n tn i had similar side effects when coming off the depo shot. I thought i was pregnant and took 3 tests. they went away but it took about 6mo. My docs checked my hormones and pituitary gland and they we all fine. It's probably not the effexor but ck w/ your doc anyway.
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar f tn The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it. When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
Avatar m tn I think memory problems, pulmonary fibrosis, etc are rarely reported because doctors impute them to "idiopathic" origins or getting old. Often they just cannot believe that statins could ever cause any problems other than those they know about. In fact, I read somewhere that something like 90% of the side effects of all drugs are not reported because doctors don't expect them to be side effects.
