Avatar n tn I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain. My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor. While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.
Avatar n tn I started thinking back, since menopause, I started on several meds, on of which was lipitor. Not one doctor said it could be the lipitor i was taking causing the hives. On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
519736 tn?1253986826 My husband was prescribed generic lipitor about a year ago. Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep.
Avatar n tn I later restarted Lipitor at a lower dose because all research and studies strongly suggest statins, and especially Lipitor, have beneficial effects upon cardiac, vascular, and brain function, and at the lower dose I haven't had any ill effects... but again, I can't say (and my docs can't say) if my original symptoms were because of Lipitor or "adjusting" to a new metabolism or what... That's the total of my two cents...
Avatar m tn thanks for the suggestion about lipitor - I will discuss as well. I have driven my total Chol down to about 110 and LDL to about 50 by diet (plant based and no oils), in combination with the lipitor and it seems it would be logical to test coming of the 5 mg lipitor for a short period and see if there is an effect on the upper back pain and also check lipids to assess how much of my change is due to lipitor vs diet.
10996785 tn?1432812977 If you get pregnant, stop taking LIPITOR and call your doctor right away. If you take LIPITOR tablets, tell your doctor if you feel any new muscle pain or weakness. This could be a sign of rare but serious muscle problems that can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions and all medications you take. This may help avoid serious drug interactions.
Avatar m tn Two weeks later, I started experiencing mild aching in the upper chest/esophogus area--a mild form of my heart attack/angina symptoms. I switched back to Aciphex at that time, but remained on Lipitor. At the six month after surgery point, I underwent a stress radionuclide test and another heart catheterization (required by my job). Both tests showed no problems. However, the aching remains and is intensifying somewhat.
Avatar f tn Is the Lipitor doing damage to his joints as well as causing pain? Is there any other medication with less side effects?
Avatar n tn Although mild muscle pain is a relatively common side effect of statins, some people who take statin medications to lower their cholesterol may have severe muscle pain. This intense pain is a symptom of rhabdomyolysis,a rare condition that causes muscle cells to break down. This does not make your muscle tissue "mushy", it just causes cells t breakdown.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor since emergency bypass surgery in 2005. Prior to this I never suffered from cholesterol issues, so the Liptor is protocol after bypass. I have just started to experience severe leg cramps, leg tiredness and soreness. After this much time, is it possible to develop these symptoms???
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar n tn Im feeling the same way, I have bad pain on my left piriformis muscle. I had only taken Lipitor for one week.My pain is severe. After you stopped taking lipitor, How soon did it take until your pain went away.
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
Avatar m tn Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar n tn thank you so much. Another question - my husband has recently been diagnosed with hemochromatosis - boy are we getting the run around! he's been for six phlembotomies, has cut back on red meat, quit taking vitamin C, is already fit for his 57 years and is keeping that up, and is making an attempt at cutting back on the alchohol. He's just been back to the doctor who has told him not to take milk thistle but didn't say why.
Avatar f tn t know what they could do except give pain med. I do take lipitor and have concern that it could be contributing to it. I think I will stop it for a few days. I took Zocor for a while and had to stop because of muscle cramps in legs. Now I've been on lipitor 10mg for a few years. One time the doctor increased the dosage to 20mg and my wrists cramped so she put me back on 10mg. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I also have had pain and burning in my right retrosternal area and grinding pain in my back under my right scapula for years. The pain has been getting worse but CT scans are negative despite recently a serum amylase of 633. My Gastroenterologist says surgery (cholecystectomy), is not warrented since the CT scans are negative. What is causing the elevated amylase? CT scan shows no pancreas abnmormality. EGD just yesterday shows no ulcers. He has just taken me off the nexum, lipitor and azor.
Avatar f tn I have been resisting the diagnosis for quite a few years but have been experiencing severe pain for the past couple of weeks and just want any pain killers that can give me relief. I am wondering if stopping the drug Lipitor could be exascerbating the problem. My symptoms sound like those caused by taking lipitor but I'm wondering if going off of it could be a form of withdrawal? Any insight would be most helpful.
10996785 tn?1432812977 With both meds, I went through a brief period of muscle pain (a few days maybe). With the Lipitor it was in the back of my upper legs. It went away and hasn't been an issue since. Be sure to let your doctor know what your experiencing, and consider asking about the possibility of a reduced dose.
Avatar n tn We both - husband and wife, have been experiencing these symptoms. We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's.
Avatar m tn Hi all, My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. I googled to see what I could find, and found this site saying that Lipitor can cause abnormal hair growth. http://www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/ My question is, has anyone else taking Lipitor experience this?
Avatar n tn m asking my psychiatrist to change me to cymbalta since i have chronic pain in my joints and back and it helps with pain, but he hasn't called me back yet so i'm still waiting. you may need a different antidepressant or a lower dose or something. you may need more xanax but you have to deal with your doctor about all this though. how high is your cholesterol?
Avatar f tn My GP prescribed Lipitor 20mg daily as my cholestrol had risen to 7. I started the medication about nine months ago and after about four months had a blood test which showed that the cholestrol reading had reduced to 4.3. My GP said she was pleased as the drug appeared to be working. At this stage I was walking about 5milometers each day with ease.
