lipitor

Avatar n tn I have been taking lipitor 20MG for 2 1/2 months now and i havent had any problems....
Avatar n tn When my insurance, years ago, would not cover Zocor any longer, I was started on Lipitor..both of which I was taking 60mg a day. The lipitor caused my severe muscle pains and aches and raised my CPK levels, to the point I would be in tears by the time I left work each day. Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins.
Avatar m tn Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
Avatar n tn i take fish oil , flaxseed and medamusal.

Avatar f tn I stopped the lipitor 3 days ago and the pain in my legs has stopped and feet are some better. I go to the dr. soon so I will tell her. I have stopped the lipitor before for a few days and gotten back to normal.
Avatar f tn I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective. Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
10996785 tn?1432812977 I took Zocor a few years ago, and recently started taking Lipitor. With both meds, I went through a brief period of muscle pain (a few days maybe). With the Lipitor it was in the back of my upper legs. It went away and hasn't been an issue since. Be sure to let your doctor know what your experiencing, and consider asking about the possibility of a reduced dose.
678451 tn?1226425977 Lipitor has been shown in studies to reduce cholesterol and reduce cholesterol blockage that already exists. Lipitor is one of the best medications and a dosage of 10 mg is a low dose. Take Lipitor at bedtime. Daily would be better as your body has to adjust to the medication. Your doctor may move you up to 20 mg daily as your body adjusts.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar f tn I have developed a devastating peripheral neuropathy and I believe, as does my neurologist that it is caused by the Zocor I took for 7 years. If you take Zocor, Lipitor or any of the other so-called statin drugs, you need to discuss this with your neurologist Dr.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?

Avatar n tn Within the first 6 months I started to have palps and my legs continued to get weaker and I got slower and slower. I quit the Lipitor and the Dr. now put me on Crestor and the palps are severe. I get very little sleep they are so severe and I have to get up and walk around. Now all kinds of heart tests! These station in just my opinion cause a much issues as they solve. Getting desperate as well for answers.
Avatar n tn I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus. After stopping each statin, it has taken me longer to get back to normal mentally.
Avatar m tn If you do not want to suffer a heart attack or stroke, you need to take the Plavix and aspirin. Lipitor is a cholesterol medication that have proven studies showing reducing cholesterol and reducing some cholesterol buildup already there. The medications are your life line and you need to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Are you having current side effects from the medications?
Avatar f tn Our doctor switched my 57-year old husband from 20 mg Zocor to 10 mg Lipitor in Dec. 2011 due to elevated LDL particles. He also takes Dutroprol 100/12.5 and 40 mg Benicar for BP, 81 mg Aspirin, and 2000 mg Metformin for Insulin Resistance. He currently weights 260 lbs. at 6' tall, down from 275, and he's continuing to lose weight by following a lower carb diet and exercising. Seven months after starting Lipitor, his GGTP tested high at 87.
Avatar f tn Is it really not possible for chol. to be too low? Do you plan to go off Zocor, and if so, does it have to be tapered?
620048 tn?1358018235 I started taking Simvastatin (zocor) maybe a week ago and with all my other symptoms its sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to feel any side efects from drugs. They are the same ones we/I already suffer from. But....For a week now I have just been worse, all my symptoms from MS are magnified it seems. I have been down (on the sofa) more than up lately. Has anyone else had any experience with this drug, I am thinking about stopping it.
932338 tn?1247125679 Almost forgot, DO NOT EVER TAKE STATIN DRUGS like lipitor, vytorin, zocor, etc. They ruin your body, specifically your nervous system and brain. We need cholesterol which is what our brains and nervous systems are mostly made of, and those drugs lower cholesterol way too much, and cause alot of neurological symptoms, as well as prevent the liver from making CoQ10, and alot of other nutrients and enzymes we need to stay healthy.STAY AWAY FROM STATINS...lipitor caused me some major problems.
10996785 tn?1432812977 s from detox, pneumonia, and a stroke. with the stroke, which is considered small and deep in my cerebellum, my vision and balance was effected. My balance was already damage from the benzo's and alcohol abuse. Lately some of you might have read my last thread that I haven't been feeling well. Actually I haven't felt well for a very long time. I did see my PCP yesterday and we all agreed that the trazodone was the one med that was making me very sluggish.
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
Avatar n tn Is your husband taking any cholesterol-lowering drug? Drugs in the statin class (e.g., Lipitor, Zocor, etc.) can cause muscle weakness as a side effect. If he is taking such a drug, it would be a very good idea for him to mention this problem to the doctor that prescribed the medication so that he can be switched to a product that works better for him. This particular side effect can be a sign that the medication is adversely affecting his liver function, so it is not something to ignore.
