Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and weight

lipitor

Avatar n tn I take lipitor and after 4 weeks i lost 12lbs. I stopped taking it, and BAM! I gained the weight back. I started taking it again and lost the pounds again. So I can assure you, if you are taking lipitor, it is the cause. Doctors won't tell you this.
Avatar n tn He is 67 and has increasing fatigue, weight loss and muscle tone decline. He is able to work (farmer) but is increasinly fatigued. I want him to stop the Lipitor. Am I correct? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/250207'>Liptor side effects</a>.

I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
Avatar n tn On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
Avatar f tn I take Lipitor to control cholesterol and it does a great job. I think aspirin controls platelets which can also lead to circulation problems. Why not control weight instead. I’m sure the doctor would support that. Portion size for a start.
Avatar m tn Hey, wait - I had my dog tested for thyroid...... because she was a chubbo like me.... turned out she needed more exercise; I needed more thyroid med and was too tired to walk her.. once I got a higher dose of thyroid med, she got more exercise, and lost weight; unfortunately, I didn't (lose weight) because I still need more thyroid med. oscar999 - agree with goolarra - once thyroid levels are brought into line, the cholesterol should also.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar f tn There are several in the class of cholesterol lowering medications that lipitor is in and there are a couple of adjust therapies that maybe would help as well. Your doctor will be the best to help guide you. Is it your LDL cholesterol that you are trying to lower? If you are having muscle pain, I would also mention this to your doctor as you do not want to continue a cholesterol lowering drug that is causing this. But again, there are several alternatives to Lipitor in the same class.
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
Avatar n tn If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?
Avatar n tn Hi there and welcome to the forum. How is it going? I'm not sure if you had a question but we would love to hear if the Lipitor did the trick for you in terms of lowering your cholesterol. Did you have any side effects? Share your experience. https://www.medicalnewstoday.
Avatar f tn I have always been monitored every 3_4 months with blood work and he put me on this lipitor 7/11 and I complained about the ide effects and he still increased it in 10/11 because he didn't see liver damage to 80mg from 40mg along with the 200mg of fenofibrate.
Avatar m tn i have this neck back and chest pain do you think i have because i take lipitor 40 mg pleae let emknow .
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar n tn was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?
Avatar m tn I know that Lipotor can artiificially lower TSH and cause a false positive for hyperthyroidism.
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
Avatar f tn Our doctor switched my 57-year old husband from 20 mg Zocor to 10 mg Lipitor in Dec. 2011 due to elevated LDL particles. He also takes Dutroprol 100/12.5 and 40 mg Benicar for BP, 81 mg Aspirin, and 2000 mg Metformin for Insulin Resistance. He currently weights 260 lbs. at 6' tall, down from 275, and he's continuing to lose weight by following a lower carb diet and exercising. Seven months after starting Lipitor, his GGTP tested high at 87.
Avatar f tn I stopped the lipitor 3 days ago and the pain in my legs has stopped and feet are some better. I go to the dr. soon so I will tell her. I have stopped the lipitor before for a few days and gotten back to normal.
