Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and thyroid

lipitor

Avatar n tn I had hashimotos as did my daughter, my Mother, sisters, etc. Find a Dr. to treat your thyroid and not TSH levels or lipitor crap. Hashimotos is awful, I am so sorry we have such bad endocrinologists in our country. Please google dr. in ...... treating t3 and t4, and you will be amazed over time how much that cholesterol comes down and how your nodules will be taken SERIOUSLY. It is very serious, so please look around now. my email, and I am in Texas is ***@****.
Avatar m tn For the most part, my cholesterol goes with thyroid -- thyroid hormones (FT3 and FT4) go down, cholesterol goes up; thyroid hormones go up, cholesterol goes down. I do find that exercise also has a direct reflection on my cholesterol levels. Even with relatively good thyroid levels, my cholesterol stayed on the high side, until I started walking 3-6 miles/day; then it dropped to normal levels.
329994 tn?1301663248 This is a question to those of you with CFS. I have been having aches in my ankles and legs, hard to describe but an all over aching and I have to move them around to make it feel better. My cardio doc thought it might be the Lipitor and it did get better off the Lipitor but hasn't gone away. I do notice it during the day but more at night when I am lying in bed. I just wonder if this is a symptom of CFS? Do others have it?
Avatar n tn Synthroid is 125 (micro-mg) 1 tablet a day. I take my Synthroid early in the morning and metmorphin after meals and lipitor in the night. It looks like for the last 3-4 months my weight has come to 55kg. I think last year my weight was 59kg. So what could be the reason for my weight loss? I walk everyday, my diet is good and healthy, my times for eating meals are very much on time, I am a strict vegetarian, milk, once a week tofu are the main sources of protiens.
Avatar f tn Hi,I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with tsh 463 UU/ML 1month back and cholesterol 10.3MMOL/L and was asked to take euthyrox 100mg and lipitor 20mg daily.I had taken hypo tablets correctly and strict diet but cholesterol tablet I took only for 10days as heard abt side effects.after 1month tested again and now cholesterol is normal but my tsh levels have come down to 0.1 uIU/ml which is hyperlevels and doctor reduced dose to 100mg for 6 days a week and to continue lipitor.
Avatar f tn Synthroid (along with Lexoxyl and generics), which contains only T4. Armour (and other desiccated porcine thyroid products) contain both T3 and T4. Some people need that extra T3, some don't. It's partly a matter of personal preference and partly what works best for you, preference aside. You've already had TSH test at 800, so that is a very firm indicator of hypothyroidism. Your symptoms are also classic hypo symptoms. Be sure to ask your doctor for FREE T3 and FREE T4.
Avatar n tn On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??
Avatar n tn You may want to check on your thyroid as there is an association between hypothyroidism (a loss of function of the thyroid gland) and high diastolic blood pressure. In that case, treatment with thyroid hormone reduces the diastolic pressure back to normal. The numeric difference between your systolic and diastolic blood pressure is called your pulse pressure.
Avatar m tn I took lipitor for twenty years without problems until menopause and the dose was raised from ten to twenty mg. I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.
Avatar n tn I am just wondering that is the hypothyrodism the cause for both high level of uric acd and cholesterol. I am a 56 years old post-menopause woman and had never have thyroid and gout problem before. However, the uric acid and tsh level were just getting higher and higher every year for the past 2 years. I am afraid if I don't get any treatment now, it may later develop gout and other symptoms. What type of treatment should I have now ?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290. I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar f tn The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
Avatar n tn liver normal, kidneys normal, thyroid normal......told me I had ideopathic constipation and to stay on bisocodyl permanently and go back in a year but.... I still have pains like a toothache in my belly, bloating, 4 bisocodyl now stopping working, moved up to 5, started with belching again, and still only pass liquid.....shouldn't I have and an endoscopy of the upper GI tract?
Avatar n tn People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
Avatar f tn Thyroid does affect Cholesterol levels and Blood Pressure, at one time my Cholesterol level was 378, my blood pressure was around 180 over 85, At that time a Gp just put me on Lipitor and BP meds, I did not know I had a thyroid problem, until I get the right dosage I will stay on BP and Chol. Meds, Now my Chol is 153 and BP is at avg 120/66 Thyroid will also increase Heart Rate (pulse) you can take your own pulse to check. feel your wrist and count beats for one minute. My TSH was over 6.
Avatar m tn i have this neck back and chest pain do you think i have because i take lipitor 40 mg pleae let emknow .
Avatar m tn However, in addition to TSH, his doctor should be checking free T3 and free T4, the actual thyroid hormones. TSH is a pituitary hormone, and as such, can be influenced by many factors besides thyroid hormone levels. Hypothyroidism does cause cholesterol changes. Persuade your doctor to check FT3 and FT4 when he runs labs again in three weeks. Just a warning from personal experience...glucosamine/chondroitin supplements can also cause cholesterol to go up.
