Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg.
My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
For myself, if I get a twitch say in my eye or lip or something like that, I take a 99mg potassium capsule and it takes it away immediately. And for cholesterol, my daughter takes 10mg. of Policosonol which is made from sugar cane,but will not raise your blood sugar level. If it is really high you can take the Policosonol along with 500mg of non flush (but not time released) niacin.

I took one 80mg tablet in the morning and one at night without any extra potassium, was out of bed at 2am, muscles in my legs and arms screaming pain and me flopping around like a fish out of water. In horrible agony, couldn't even walk because muscles would not function. The last time this happened my ( muscle amino ? ) count was 1465 when it should be around 120. My doctor stopped the Lipitor and said I was close to a kidney and liver failure.
I am just wondering that is the hypothyrodism the cause for both high level of uric acd and cholesterol. I am a 56 years old post-menopause woman and had never have thyroid and gout problem before. However, the uric acid and tsh level were just getting higher and higher every year for the past 2 years. I am afraid if I don't get any treatment now, it may later develop gout and other symptoms. What type of treatment should I have now ?
I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290.

There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?
Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
Some natural ways to treat high blood pressure are to increase aerobic exercise, limit salt intake to 2,400 mg, trying to eat at least 3,500 mg of potassium a day, from foods such as yogurt, cantaloupe, spinach, and bananas, limit alcohol consumption, and even trying some forms of meditation. Some supplements that may help with blood sugar are GTF chromium, magnesium, Alpha-lipoic acid, and Coenzyme Q10. Please talk with your doctor before taking any suppplements.
Your best option is discuss with your doctor. I get night sweats (doctors can not figure them out), but no vomiting.

I know that Lipotor can artiificially lower TSH and cause a false positive for hyperthyroidism.

MY BACKRGROUND (AGE 56, HEIGHT 168 CM, 88 KILOS.
2002 Angioplasty for 70 percent blockage using catheritization (arm, Dr. Saito in Japan). No stent.
2006 no restenosis. 2008 Did CT scan radioactive dye and also no restenosis.
Age: 56--> Regimen: Lipitor 5 mg, baby aspirin, fish oil (about 3-4 grams).
had coiling embolisation done with stent due to an unruptured aneurysm on the right ICA. returned to hospital afterwards due to TIA symptoms and was given Lipitor as cholesterol level was borderline and given just to make sure that it is not causing the "mini-stroke". I have been given Plavix and aspirin from the onset and I am still on it.

My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril.
