Lipitor and fibromyalgia

Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and fibromyalgia

lipitor

-) These pains in my chests are very quick though, hard and intense like my heart is having a Charlie horse and makes me sweat and lightheaded all within seconds. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this pain with Fibro.....? Thank you for any suggestions.
I kept saying that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Fibromyalgia has so many different sx. If you read up on Fibro you will see where it just varies. I do not agree with the info that it does not get worse. Mine wax and wanes. If I overdo things, don't sleep well, have alot of stress it alwaus flares up. As far as winter versus summer it could just be r/t increased stress of holidays, weather issues, with increased stress comes decreased sleep, subsequently flareup of fibro.
And, about years ago I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and perscribed 1- 10 mg tablet a day of Lipitor for treatment. I've since been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and prescribed 1 - 1000 mg tablet twice a day of Metformin for treatment. For the past several years, I've been focused on lossing weight with little results. The things that I'm doing routinely are: 1) reduced intake of processed carbs, 2) walk for 45 minutes 3 to 4 times a week coulped with a 15 minute exercise.
My cardio doc thought it might be the Lipitor and it did get better off the Lipitor but hasn't gone away. I do notice it during the day but more at night when I am lying in bed. I just wonder if this is a symptom of CFS? Do others have it? I struggle with low potassium (I take supplements), I thought it might have to do with that too. I don't have Fibro, at least I am pretty sure that I don't. Any ideas? Thank you!
At the time, I attributed it to my Lipitor, called my cardiologist and I went off of it. Right after that, I went into the hospital for surgery (hysterectomy and a hernia operation) and came home to recover. At first, I didn't notice it, so I thought stopping the Lipitor is what helped. It got so bad that I could not sleep at night. Although, it is more of an aching pain, than a sharp pain. I do take Tylenol for it but it doesn't help much. It bothers me all day but seems worse at night.
I do continue on the Lipitor, because of a family history and my own grossly high level (due to both heredity and PCOS) with my Rhumotologist approval. This drug may effect the liver in only a slight way. Your doctor has to evaluate the risk of taking it and you developing a cardiac or stroke like symptoms verus liver issues. You never stated what kind of liver testing was performed. Are your LFT'S (liver function tests) grossly abnormal? Did you have a CT scan of your liver?
I had a consultation to have this nonsurgical procedure for fat reduction by microinjections of PPD, done on my abs and chin. The doctor who directs the clinic is a MD, FACS. I understand the two naturally occuring chemicals, phospatidylcholine (soy product/lethicin) and deoxycholate (bile acid) shrink & dissolve fat cells as a detergent. The inflammatory response of the body completes the destruction of the fat cells and are excreted in the urine. The phosph.
I still have left arm/shoulder/chest pain. I've been to 2 regular MDs, cardiologist and neurologist and now they are saying maybe fibromyalgia. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it! Do you think my pain is of cardiac origin? I also have terrible ingiestion, burping and upper stomach pain - have had it for 2 months. Is this normal? Do you think I'll have a heart attack? I'm scared everyday of this. Help!!!! Thanks!
I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
My mom and i both have fibromyalgia....and i can say without a doubt the fibro pain is not just in your neck and shoulders. We both have the worst all over muscle..joint..nerve pain and we have both been to a Rheumatologist. My doctor even diagnosed me with Polymyalgia which is only in your neck and shoulders... ive been on lyrica...cymbalta..every kind of pain med thete is and nothing helps...they just turn me into a zoombie..W cant sleep well..always exhausted...in pain..shakey...
I have gained 60 pounds in the past 7 years, since being diagnosed with sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. Since then, I am told that fibromyalgia is an offspring to the demyelinating polyneuropathy that was determined during a nerve conduction study for carpal tunnel syndrome in 1993. I am depressed, irritable, bruise easily, fall asleep during passive activities, have swollen feet (maybe just one foot) and can't arrive anywhere on time. Leaving the house is a chore.
I took it for 3 days and thought I was dying, it was literally causing so much joint and bone pain, as well as soft tissue pain that seemed to be in one place at one time and then jumped to another without any cause or reason. My doctor then put me on Lipitor which I took for 5 mos. At about 3 mos., my cholesterol had dropped to 143! Sounds great right - WRONG.
Weaned off the Lyrica, finally, about middle of July and started on baclofen, August 1 for muscle spasms. What a wonderful difference! Baclofen even at 15 mg day has reduced the nerve pain to nothing and spasms are so very much better! I am so glad to be off the Lyrica. My legs don't swell in the afternoon anymore. :) Working my way up to 30 mg over time. Walked half mile 3 days in a row after sunset, with no residual pain.
I'm 34 yr old male and have been experiencing various chest and left arm pains for about three months. I've seen a plethora of doctors from cardiologist to internist to GI doc to psychologist. Heart problems have been ruled out by numerous EKG's and stress echo test. GI doc found I have a hiatal hernia/GERD from upper GI and is currently being treated with Nexium. Have also had ultrasound of liver/gall bladder and MRI of abdomen - all normal.
For example, an older person may begin taking Lipitor for high cholesterol and Prilosec for acid reflux. These two medications can cause tinnitus as an adverse effect. This individual also is has seasonal allergies causing frequent nasal congestion, another cause of tinnitus. In addition, the natural aging process can cause deterioration of the cochlea in the inner ear which can cause or contribute to the development of ringing ears.
Worse after eating. After eating, feels like something tied around my back and chest real tight and won't let up. Sometimes pain in back and shoulder is dull, sometimes sharp. In october, went to dr because of running fever and vomiting. Found blood in my urine and diagnosed me with kidney infection even though didn't have signs like burning sensation when urinating. Have had all tests done: barium enema, upper gi tests, hida-scan, other tests for gallbladder and liver.
I am treating for fibromyalgia with Lyrica and it seems to help other pain, but not my arm. Pain meds don't help. I've had two major back surgeries in the last five years and have 3 vertebrae fused. I think it is worse at night because I'm not distracted by work. I am a computer system engineer for a doctor company (ironic, eh?). I've been diagnosed with DeQervains disease. I'm wearing a wrist brace to see if it helps, 2 weeks and no change. I can't lift my arm above shoulder height.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
I am concerned and frustrated. I have fibromyalgia-- could this be a symptom of that? Someone mentioned to me that I could have Lupus, and that it is highly prevalent among Native Americans and Latinos, both of which are my heritage. I am just tired. This rash will not go away and a fever usually accompanies it. Can you give me any insight?
Exhausted with the fever and now back of the head aches and sinus stuffy nose and headache every day. Tests have come back negative.for lot of maladies. Slightly anemic. ON lepitor and atenolol for cholesterol and palpitation not BP.
Penny, here is some information that I have received. This is a copy of an email: (If you want to email me personally I have others.
I am 51 year old female with some simple low back problems. I have been told I have fibromyalgia also. But very active and in good health. I would love to find out the cause if any of you find one!
Please do a drug interaction search on the web... Lexapro and lipitor and any other meds you take. Fibro can cause all kinds of wierd symptoms...everyone is different. I get the "shaky" vibrations and sweats too, plus heart palpitations. Are you beginning menopause? How is your sugar?? Is there any way you can lower your cholesterol with diet instead of meds? You shouldn't have to take meds to get the "good" cholesterol up...its the bad that all the doctors fuss about.
I have Fibromyalgia. I get excruciating cramps (charlie horses) in my calfs, toes, arch of feet, top of feet, inner right thigh, sides of calfs from the outside knee down to ankle. When I walk outside my home such as going to get groceries I am sure to have these cramps at night. They may also come during the daytime. My fingers and hands spasm also. My fingers on my right hand will pull in toward the center or my hand.. I became very ill about 2 years ago.
2 and a half years ago, I started on Lipitor for my high cholesterol, I immediately got pain in my right arm. It became so bad, that I couldn't even sleep on it. I went to the doctor and told him that my Dad had the same reaction to Lipitor. So, he put me on Pravastatin instead. The pain reduced but never went away. I tried anti-inflammatory medications with no relief. I eventually saw another physician who set me up for X-Raysand blood work.
My docs say anxiety, GERD, and fibromyalgia but I'm just not convinced. The prilosec seems to be helping some and they just put me on elavil which seems to make me more tired. I don't know what to do! IT is disrupting my life. I have no family history, my HDL and LDL are good, my BP is good. THe only thing thats come back abnormal is my liver enzymes so we are retesting. I need to be back to normal for my husband and baby. My question is, do you think it could be cardiac?
Sometimes I have cramps so bad it feels like I am having a baby. My Doctor says I have IBS and Fibromyalgia. Also have neck, back, leg, arm pain. I've been precribed Vioxx, Zoloft and Trazadone. But nothing helps my stomach area. I've had all the tests, scopes, MRI's, Ultra sounds, blood tests. Makes me wonder about a flu shot I had three years ago. After the shot, I had the flu for a month and then the Rib cage pain started.
for 2 yrs for type 2 diabetes, aspirin 81mg. for 4 yrs., and currently am not taking a chol med. (took lipitor for 2 yrs., insurance co. did not want to pay for it- tried simvastatin and lovastatin but caused throat tightness and pain, and shortness of breath - have appt. with pcp to see what is next). I have a daily feeling of tiredness, fatigue, brain fog,and recently gained some weight. What could be causing this problem? What kind of Dr. should I see? Thank you.
I am a 36 y/o male with hx of erythema nodosum and High Cholesterol. Meds include 100mg daily thalidomide and 10mg lipitor which was recently d/c'd due to increased CK of 600. I have experienced voluntary muscle cramps globally and stiffness throughout my body. However, feeling some better off the Lipitor. I will be re-tested in another week to see if going off lipitor decreased CK. I have had sinus surgery late last week, and recently have experienced muscle twinges throughout my body at rest.
