Using petroleum jelly on the areas of skin that are blistered or that I think may become blistered due to trauma has significantly improved my condition. It doesn’t prevent an episode of EM, but petroleum jelly does seem to make an outbreak more manageable. During an outbreak, I ALWAYS keep a coating of petroleum jelly on my hands and the tender skin near my eyes.
Avatar m tn So, then I looked carefully at the lip treatment I used and saw it was not 100% pure Petroleum Jelly it had some flavoring in it even though it said 100% petroleum jell as the active ingredient. So, I gave them all to my husband and got pure petroleum jelly. Things got better for 2 days and now my lips are swollen and I am having trouble breathing. I have to also mention I am on Adrenal XR jell caps and for the past two or 3 weeks I have been out and have been taking the non jell caps.
Avatar f tn I kept using lip moisturizer but they still burned. I used petroleum jelly for 2 days and it may have helped a bit. I then tried the medicated Carmax which seemed to work, applying every 30 min., but after 24 hrs I think it dried them out even more. Then I read about applying honey, which seemed to lessen the burn, but after a day they started to burn like before. Perhaps I applied the products too often?

Avatar n tn This may also result to a red ring around the mouth. Moisturizing with lip balm containing sunscreen or petroleum jelly may help. However, if the redness, pigmentation, cracking or dryness persist and becomes painful, have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. Medicated lip balm may be indicated. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn A lip balm preferably petroleum jelly, Vit B supplements, iron, and honey should help. Drink plenty of fluids. If it does not help, please consult a skin specialist. There is one very simple thing that I would like to tell you. Lip area when it heals, forms a scab like dry layer. This layer though looks bad should be left as such so that the skin underneath it can get time to grow and cover the lips.
Avatar f tn ve used a lot of different medications-- topical steroids seem to work best, but I am concerned about long term damage to my skin. At this moment, I seem to have had an allergic reaction to petroleum jelly. I used it as a moisturizer for several months because it really helped control my eczema. my skin felt great for about 6months. However, after applying the Vaseline to my face a few nights ago i noticed that my eczema was actually worse in the morning.
Avatar n tn I recommend you see your dermatologist for proper treatment, as that may combine an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-yeast meds and that you use just plain petroleum jelly for moisturizing. This is particularly important right before bedtime. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
5389263 tn?1367258662 s just dryness from allergies and/or antihistamines, try petroleum jelly on the area.
Avatar f tn To compensate for the intense painful dryness and ictyness (my lips are so itchy that I just want to scratch them off!) I layer petroleum jelly on which makes it easier to talk and eat. However, this only lasts for half and hour then I have to reapply. Meanwhile I have to walk around with tons of petroleum jelly on my face which does not look and feel great at all.
Avatar f tn You can develop an allergy to anything, including petroleum jelly. However, in you case this may happen due to long term use of the product. The best decision would be to consult your physician for him to determine after an exam if the sores are allergic in origin. Had an allergy to skin product once, but it disappeared after I started using it, hope it would be the same in your case.
Avatar f tn It gets embarrassing sometimes, because people point out the red ring around my mouth. Quite often. Does anybody know a brand of lip therapy that actually WORKS, or have another suggestion? Thanks!
Avatar f tn At this point, I cannot wear any type of lipstick, no lip gloss, no chapstick, no beeswax, no Carmex, NOTHING....even plain petroleum jelly irritates the sensitive skin on my lips. After a few hours of applying any of the above mentioned products, my lips begin to dry up, burn slightly, the skin will whiten and peel off in big pieces and my lips become raw. In the worst case scenario, I develop tiny hard, clear bumps on both the top and bottom lip...
Avatar f tn line the inside of your nose with thin layer of petroleum jelly or waxaline once per day and keep up on water intake. That should slow them. If your nose is pouring blood, take a tiny wad of tp, roll it into a ball (maybe half the size of a pea) and shove it inside your upper lip, (between the lip and teeth) right up against the septum (tissue between the nostrils). But don't put it in the nose..
Avatar f tn I have changed my mouthwash, stopped eating extra strong mints and only use plain petroleum jelly as a lip balm. I can now see a HUGE improvement.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old.I am using Vaseline petroleum jelly since last two years but i haven't seen any reaction by this but since last 1 yr my lips getting darker day by day and my lips started to get more dry and chapped than usual, even itchy. They felt like sand paper and often developed tiny bumps. If rubbed hard enough, the bumps would produce a clear liquid.
Avatar n tn t have to do so frequently prior to that - now I have petroleum jelly or chapstick applied almost 24 hrs a day and still see no improvement. The outside of the lining of my lips have also have felt itchy, dryer than the rest of the skin on my face; especially around the corners. (see attached picture). I am afraid it might be Cheilitis, or some form of it, but there is no inflammation on my lip and lip darkening wasn't a symptom of Cheilitis when I read about it.
Avatar f tn Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. . Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle. Treatment includes antibiotics and incision and drainage and do not touch or pick them up. Also apply warm compresses on the site.
Avatar m tn However, this means that I need to carry a tube of petroleum jelly, everywhere I go. Also, I only wear black pants as it bleeds through clothing and will cause a spot. I have to worry about what I sit on, too, as it can mark chairs, etc. Can I get away from using petroleum jelly after all of these years? Avatar f tn Dry out the lesions completely by patting and air drying after washing with a mild soap and use petroleum jelly to lock out moisture. It is vital that the affected areas be clean and completely dry before application of the jelly. You can also apply small amounts of athlete’s foot cream which is available over the counter. If the symptoms persist then please consult a dermatologist as oral antimicrobials may be needed and the possibility of cold sores needs to be ruled out.

Avatar f tn Hi yes it does work good, only thing I can add is make sure it is 'WHITE PETROLEUM JELLY'....the yellow stuff has a higher petroleum base and can be harmful especially when using regularly......this is easily found in baby section of any retail outlet..
