Lip sores that won't heal

Common Questions and Answers about Lip sores that won't heal

lip

For the past 10 years I have had really sensitive lips and have only been able to use one type of lip balm. As anything else - lip sticks of glosses give me little sores on my lips and cause them to puff up and get little scabs and peel contantly - i also get dry patches under my eyes and eye lids. When I visited a doctor they told me I may have an allergy to nail polish and an ingrediant in lip glosses/balms its also happens when I were nail polish.
Since I have been pregnant I have been getting cold sores like crazy. Is anyone else having this problem? What do I do?
You can use topical ointments like numbing ointments, such as benzocaine (Oragel), anti-inflammatory (steroid) gels, benadryl allergy liquid mouthwash, oral preparations of steroids and vitamin supplements. Also pls tell whether these sores on the lip that you are having are painless or painful?Painless sores are often due to mucocele and need excision or electocautery. If painful and persisting for more than 3 weeks, then they might not be canker sores.Herpes then has to be probed.
I believe it to be oral lichen planus as Ive had it intermittantly before TX.Since starting peg-intron/riba combo it is worse and non-stop.
They are very painful. They will last for weeks, then heal for a week or so then they are back. What's up with that? Anone else?
I have been trying to get back into a relationship with my previous girlfriend and told her last night that I tested positive for cold sores. She lives states away and we haven't had any sexual contact for a few months but I plan on seeing her this weekend. She still decided to see me which I'm grateful for but I just don't want to pass anything to her if anything happens and need to know what to do to keep it with just me. Also when will the lesions/cold sores appear?
Then, I started getting the same reaction that I got from the Burt's Bees Lip Balm. That was when I figured I was developing an allergy to lip balm. Over time, I also realized I was getting the same reaction even faster from lipstick and lipgloss. That meant I was allergic to all lip products across the board. I began researching into the symptoms and the ingredients in lip products, especially ones that commonly produced allergic reactions.
He said that if I didn't use Abreva right away, it could blister and that I was lucky it did not. If you have this dry spot on your lip that feels like a piece of tape is stuck to it, go to your local drugstore right away and get some Abreva. Good luck.
Well went to OS today and he said that my nerve was located exceptionally high and that my nerve was bruised or hurt because of that..he said that it might take 6 months to 1 yr. to heal and he didnt know how much healing there would be hard to say..but he felt good that it would just take time..he said I had a 2% chance it wouldnt heal..and that he would need me to come in every 6 wks to check my progress..that was it oh except he said I would get use to it..
I quit what I was using and switched to the kind of Sensodyne that doesn't have that ingredient and while it certainly didn't heal the mouth stores, it did not excerbate the pain I was already experiencing. Right now I don't have mouth sores. But I have restless leg syndrome which is driving me nuts. It is really really bad right now and if I don't take meds, I don't sleep for days.I take Requip which is used for Parkinson's which makes my legs calm down so that I do get some sleep.
In terms of other issues - I don't have any other symptoms other than stress and anxiety about this thing. All I get are these cold sores on my lip. They do not hurt at all. No other physical symptoms I keep reading about boosting immune system helping reduce OB's. How can I boost my immune system? I have started to stay away from unhealthy foods, I take a multivitamin, etc.
The weird thing is I still have these small bumps on my upper lip and they won't go away. They're really tiny bumps just covering my upper lip. I really have no idea what they can be any help will be appreciated. Is it a possibility it is in fact herpes?
It was a very bad outbrake, I had honey clusters forming on my lip and a couple a little white bumps form also on the lip area. I went to the doctor and they told me that it was caused by the herpies virus. No cultures or test were taking. They procribed Acyclovir(400mg) I took that for a week and no improvement. Actually I began to get more outbrakes above the lip area. I went back to a different doctor and he proscribe a higher dose of Acyclovir (800mg) and Bactroban.
I have a lip balm for cold sores so I'll switch to that and see what happens.
you can get cold sores anywhere in the lip , nose or chin area. they won't always come back at the same exact place though most folks do have their usual areas that they get them in. Your bf has hsv1 orally himself so odds are you didn't give him hsv1 genitally but should he notice any genital symptoms in the next few weeks, he should see his provider for proper testing.
for most kids - they get cold sores - if even that. It's not unusual to just have the initial symptoms with a new infection and then not get any other symptoms. Most kids with hsv1 orally don't even show symptoms. Did you have specific questions?
I used a vitamin E lip balm to soothe my lips while they healed. I read that angular chelitis can be caused by iron deficient anemia, which I have, so I am taking an iron supplement as well. Good news; the cracks are healing and subsiding. Bad news; I developed an outbreak of herpes lesions all around my lips about a week or two into the healing of the angular chelitis. I have never had a sore in more than one spot, usually a small area on one side of my upper or lower lip.
I was told you could not develop canker sores on your hard palate. So then they assumed it was herpes 1 but they all agreed that it didn't look like a typical herpes lesion. I'm kinda shocked to hear this. I've never had a fever blister or a cold sore. I do develop canker sores very easily. SO WHAT COULD IT BE?
So I went the health food store and bought a pste there that doesn't have that. The sores began to heal and I only a 1 every 6 months or so. I ran out 10 days ago and now have 3 in my mouth as I type. Hope this helps.
it's not the virus still being active, it's just damaged skin that sometimes takes awhile to heal. For your oral area, just try a regular lip balm - burts bees or even vaseline is fine. For the genital area, try aquaphor ointment or even eucerin ( vaseline is fine too but it tends to stay overly sticky and stain clothing ).
this was one of my worst cold sores ever, but it eventually started to go away, just leaving scabs that are slowly healing (because the blisters got big, i accidently kept ripping them in my sleep). From my understanding, is it true that once the cold sore begins to heal, that the virus has left your body?
I didn't notice until lat night (I've noticed this thing for the last 3 days or so) that I have one (maybe two) tiny tiny white blisters right by where my lip split. I went to a dermatologist yesterday who said that because of where the cut is (and I also pointed out where I saw the blisters) that this would be more likely than not a canker sore. I DO have canker sores in my mouth right now and the derm related this to being sick.
The next day i felt a heat and irritation on the left 1/3 of my bottom lip. I thought that the combination of the weather and giving my lips a work out from the night before was causing them to feel hot and raw. I looked at the area and saw a few slightly raised areas that were a bit more obvious when i pulled the skin taught. Since this was in a completely new spot on my lip I assumed it was just chapped. My girlfriend came over and about 4 hours later i performed oral sex on her and kissed.
The next day (when I called my doc about the yeast infection) my boyfriend complained that his bottom lip was sore and there was something developing on it - needless to say, he wasn't happy. I asked my obgyn about it Friday right before LEEP surgery and she said she didn't know that a yeast infection could do that (after also saying that she doesn't study men). She then said something about the possibility of Herpes, but said she has never seen anything unusual on me.
Yesterday i noticed a bump (pimple-like) on the outer lip - not red or looked like a blister, just kind of a hard pimple from under the skin - like how a big pimple feels when it's under the surface on your face.. I thought it was an ingrown hair so I messed with it and tried to pop it (I know, bad idea). Now it's big and red, was kind of oozing clear liquid when I squeezed it and then a small mass of white pus came out, like when popping a bad pimple..
even with the Valtrex (500 mg twice a day). And a few of them have left red marks that just won't go away..after 6 weeks. I have kind of decided that they were being triggered by going in to the Sauna. I had never been told not to do this, but since I stopped, I have had only one small outbreak. But I am concerned about the severity of the blisters and the fact that the Valtrex did not seem to control them. But my problems continue.
I had no clue to what was on my lip and dismissed it as a weird shaving rash. Until I researched online and saw that this wasnt normal. I got a swab of my lip and of the red spots done on Saturday, would this be too late? When would be the appropriate time to go for a type test?
I've taken ointments such as abreva but it seems that it still takes a week to heal which affects me with school and work knowing i can't go cause its highly contagious . The one i had a few months back took two weeks. i thought about taking supplements to suppress the outbreaks but i don't want take make these major life changes and be reduce to taking pills daily. i want to be completley cured of this, i read about this drug named acyclovir but I do not know much about it.
It took 12 days for the sores to heal. But other symptoms continued. I had a sore throat that would constantly come and go, but subsided after about 1.5 months. But the worst of it is the fatigue, which won't go away. I last until around 9pm and then need to go to bed, or struggle to stay awake.
