In the summer when I am outside in the sun I get these horrible sores on my bottom lip, it is actually like one big sore that covers half my lip. This just started last year. None of the lip balms I've tried help. Could this be a form of skin cancer,I'm really scared? If not what is it and what can I do to prevent this other than staying out of the sun.
Hello, From the symptoms the possibility of cold sores is there. Pain, burning, tingling, or itching occurs at the infection site before the sores appear. Then clusters of blisters erupt which break down. You need to get some investigations like sample from the sores to identify the virus, culture analysis, Tzanck smear, antigen and antibody studies and blood sampling for antibody studies done to confirm the diagnosis. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist.
if you stabbed yourself with hooks from your braces maybe there was a bug of somekind on the braces and is now infecting your lips and comes abck all the time as it has not been cured. try a lip cream with antifungal init and see if that helps.

So frustrating because no amount or type of lip balm seemed to help (vaseline lip therapy, body shop lip salve, etc etc). Additionally, the skin above my upper lip became dry, red and irritated. About 2-3 weeks after that, I started experiencing swollen eyelids as well as dry, wrinkled, red, itchy patches above and below my eyes. I could not apply the most mild lotion to those areas because it would burn, but it was so dry I wanted to do something.
I did peel away some loose, white skin around the lip sores and was in the sun most of the day. I did notice some fluid and blood seep from underneath the red portion where there was a crack. The 2 sores on my lip were dark red in color but no blisters around them.Sunday - Last day on took Zythromax. Woke up in the morning with cold chills and a fever and my lower lip was very swollen and sore.
I am somewhat light skinned and that was my first real sun exposure that year. At the end of the last day there, at the hotel, I looked in the mirror and my lower lip had about 7 (size of a pin head) red spots that were oozing puss. I initially thought it was herpes. During, the next few weeks, I applied Abreva and Herpecin on my lips but it didn't clear up. I have never had any form of STD or lip problem prior to this occurrence.

Could you give me a little more information regarding why there is no risk of HSV-1 transmission from using a lip gloss tester under the scenario that I described? I rubbed the gloss off my lips. 2. How long does hsv-1 live in lip gloss at room temperature? Would it be viable over night? Would gloss dilute any saliva making it hard for HSV-1 to live in the gloss tube? I ask because there was a recent article citing dermatologists stating that in addition to e.
I assumed immediately it was a blister from the sun and it healed within a week or two but left a slightly reddish scar. About 3 days ago i noticed that i was getting red in the lips in the exact place i had the blister last year. and now there is a bump and small amounts of clear fluid in them. It has not burst, but i have been very stressed in the past week, and thought that might have triggered it. now i am extremely worried it might be herpes.
I bite off the inside skin of the lip, and it used to lead to bleeding howevert his has stopped. The healing process consists of a white, loose membrane growing over it, which then falls of and then the actualk skin grows back on. Ive heard from many people two different opinions, that this habit can lead to cancer and that it cannot. I would like to know if i this implies a risk of cancer? please help, thank you.
well 3 days of no chapstick and constant lick lipping led to flaking of my lips which i bit at and created sores. all the sores healed after a week except for one. it will scab over, and i will be able to leave it alone for a max of 3 weeks while treating it with neosporin but the black scab never goes away and i pick it off and i can see the new skin underneath but it just keeps scabbing. is my lip never going to heal completely?

Because these are highly contagious from anywhere between 7 and 20 days. If you get the vaccine you will prevent yourself from getting any of the other 2-3 hpv types. Do you get breakouts when youv been in the sun too long? Or If the weather is really dry? Usually they appear when your immune system is comprimised and your getting a cold or somthing. It is a virus and thats how they work. You can use tea tree oil (Natural antiseptic) or abreva. Both work well. See your doctor!!
The other point I forgot to mention is not to let him out during the hottest parts of the day when the sun is at it fiercest. He'll probably will be OK in the morning and later on in the day when the sun starts to go down.
If so its very mild as it was healing the next day. So I definately do not sit in the sun. I do not need a sun tan (smile). I do have oily skin.
Hi, This could be a part of Cheilitis, which is a medical condition involving inflammation of the lip. Or a bad case of Chapped lips , a condition whereby the lips become dry and possibly cracked. It may be caused by the evaporation of moisture. Whether this is eczema or not cannot be said with surety without having a look at the lesions. lip balm can often provide temporary relief, though it should not be used extensively.
I stress again that this is a tiny tiny reddish area just above the lip and toughing the vermilion border that looks as though it is part of my lip. It does not irritate me, there is no hardness or raised appearance, just a slight roughness. I have had two people in the past three months that I have kissed. I had sex with one.
So I'll go but after I see the rhumie on march 2nd. I'm hoping the sores are still there for him to see by then. The cyst thing on the floor of my mouth actually changes sizes, comes and goes, bigger vs. smaller, very strange. I thought it had popped and went away on saturday but it's back.
I had the lab work done a week later from the time i noticed the symptoms appearing on my lip. i was tested positive. Here is my lab result, it was taken using a HERPESELECT HSV 1 IGG >5.
If I press my lips together, I can feel the fluid. Even though the border of the lip is visible, there is a band of darker pink/red on the outside of the border. At first, I thought it may be photo-contact dermatitis because I just started using a new sunscreen yesterday and I did stay out in the sun for a while. However, I used the sunscreen all over my face and chest with no problem, whereas what I'm describing is limited to my upper lip.
I am eating foods high in lysine. I stay out of the sun, and in fact, have just stopped leaving the house for fear of sun exposure. My questions: dosage of valacyclovir -- would it make sense to raise the dose? Or pay the way higher cost of Valtrex? is it possible the 400mg 3x day acyclovir was not a high enough dose? Would zovirax be a better idea? I have heard that these drugs don't work for everyone.

One should avoid licking their lips as saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which can damage the already compromised lip tissue.
Several years ago on a cruise I suffered from sun poisoning - first time ever and it was on the upper lip and was horrible. Could this be related? Please help!
I changed my chapstick to aveeno and it seemed to do the trick, the rash was gone in just a day or two. Over the next year and a half, the rash would pop up every 3-6 months or so, and I could get it to disappear in a day or so jsut by applying the chapstick more often. (it seemed like the rash would appear after my lips got really chapped) Then, about 3 months or so ago, the rash appeared, but did not go away with application of the chapstick.
Then, I started getting the same reaction that I got from the Burt's Bees lip Balm. That was when I figured I was developing an allergy to lip balm. Over time, I also realized I was getting the same reaction even faster from lipstick and lipgloss. That meant I was allergic to all lip products across the board. I began researching into the symptoms and the ingredients in lip products, especially ones that commonly produced allergic reactions.
So today, I pulled my lip open, and have spread a small amount of neosporin plus pain relief all over the inside of bottom lip several times. The good news, its tasteless, it doesn't burn AT ALL, which every thing else seems to, and by golly it buys you a couple of hours of relief, or until the next jug of water. I have no idea if it will make them heal faster, but it has made my day much more pleasant. I will keep you posted if they seem to go away faster..
Everything I've read about cold sores or herpes on the lip sounds extremely painful. I don't have any of those symptoms.... its all very strange.
