Avatar f tn I had a dental implant in the mandible 6 months ago. After complaining of tingling sensations & numbness in the chin & lip, forward to where the implant is, the oral surgeon replaced it with a shorter one after one month. Another 5 months have passed, it has healed nicely & a crown has been attached by my dentist. The tingling is still there. When I touch my chin, my chin & lip tingle. After a routine cleaning & the crown, it seems a little bit worse.
Avatar m tn because the bulky area underneath my upper left lip, every time when I smile, that part of lip become thick and relative big when compare to the right side of my upper lip as the bulky surgical area underneath the lip push against the lip when I smile. will this be permanent? or it is too early to say now and bulkyness could reduce over time as time pass by and my smile will become normal? Thanks.

Avatar m tn A couple days later I called my oral surgeon and told him that my left chin and lower lip are numb. He asked me to come to the office to back out the implant a millimeter or two because it might be touching a nerve. On 5/23 the oral surgeon backed out implants #31 and #29. He did tell me that he suspected that implant #29 was possibly compressing a nerve area. Today is 5/30 and the numbness has not gone. Area around tooth #28, #27 and # 26 is very numb (lower lip and chin only).
Avatar n tn I had a chin implant placed exactly one year ago following 2 surgeries to bring my lower jaw forward. My chin since the first surgery has always been numb in spots but I always got my huge smile back. Following the chin implant I do not have as big of a smile. He secured the chin implant to the titanium plates used on my jaw surgery which made me mad. Since he used those the chin implant isnt even, even with my real chin it sits up a tiny bit and its not centered.
703897 tn?1248019974 Post-op pain associated with implant placement is generally minimal, generally no more than 24 hours as reported by my patients. One or two doses of OTC pain killer is generally adequate. However, each individual 's pain response is different.Going back to your dentist to have a post-op evaluation is advised. Complete healing for an extraction site with or without bone graft takes 3-6 months in general.
Avatar n tn I have had one implants removed due to terrible pain from the implant sticking into my lower lip. Now the left side of my chin and lower lip is so painful I leave my dentures out most of the time. I keep them in while at work, but I'm in misery all day. There is severe pain in my upper gums at night. I sleep with my head elevated to an almost sitting position. My dentist and oral surgeon don't have any suggestions. Is there anything I can do to relieve the discomfort?
Avatar m tn Last June I complained to my optometrist of a large single floater - he said "yeah I see it but there's nothing you can do about it and everything else looks ok". I had had cataract surgery (IOL implant) about 4 months earlier at his referal. Now I know (or so I've read) that retinal breaks can be tough to spot but in my case wouldn't you strongly suspect that one had occured? Should the optometrist have refered me to a proper and competent ophthamologist??
Avatar n tn I had a chin implant a week ago today and since then I have had a strange lisp and noticed that when I smile, the middle of my bottom lip dosn't move down. When I talk my bottom lip hardly moves at all, and that is what is causing my lisp. What is weird is that the part that won't move isn't numb compared to the rest of my lower jaw. Is this nerve damage or muscle damage and is it permanent? Is this normal?
Avatar m tn Hello I need your help I'm a mother (37 years old) I had a otoplastic surgery but the doctor wanted to do a chin implant too.......I wasn't sure but he told me if I don"t like he can remove it and I would come back to my pre-op... Then ( 18 days later) I didn't like it and I ask him to remove it but he didn't do it. Instead, he put a little one (he accepted than the first one was to big for me)....
Avatar f tn Worst mistake of my life, now TMJ, pain/throbbing in jaw, sunken cheeks slightly, flat lip, dark corners in smile, and now and even narrower and smaller jaw. My teeth still protruded when they were straight b/c I have a really narrow jaw, that's why pre-molars were pulled. I had my wisdom teeth out at 17 b/c that's what dentists do nowadays, don't even know if they were coming in impacted or good, who knows.
Avatar f tn s opinion, if two three pontic bridges supported by a capped canine tooth and an implant in the lateral position, would not be preferable to a four part bridge supported by three implants and then have the canine teeth crowned separately. Would the natural canine teeth and implants in the lateral position next to them, supporting a three part bridge, be stronger than a single four part one? Any information and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Yes I know a specialist in dental implants .His name is Dr Stephen Phelan(Toronto)Well I am living in Canada.I am not familiar with the doctors at Washington D.C./Northern Virginia Area. But earnest opinion is not to look at reviews but to get real information from people who has taken his/her services when you research about a doctor!
Avatar n tn Get another Dental implant specialist to examine him. My girlfriend had a similar situation. They found that her system couldn't tolerate the titanium. She recently had everything removed & had a zirconium post implanted. Let us know.
Avatar f tn Thank you Scottma for your help. I went to an oral surgeon a second opinion and he took several xrays. He showed me xrays and explained that the implant had entered an area of many nerves. He told me to have it removed immediately and even called the dentist that put the implant in. I then went and saw the dentist that put in the implant and he also took xrays.
Avatar n tn I can only think that if the implant was put in via the mouth and afterwards the pocket inside your lower lip (vestibule) is much lower, then it may be that you need some more surgery to reattach the mentalis. This procedure is called 'mentalis resuspension.' You can google the term to find a plastic surgeon who specialises in this. The description of the your 'teeth hanging in front of the jaw bone" is not really clear.
Avatar m tn My current dilemma is trying to decide whether or not to remove the existing implant that he was then able to install. We confirmed the next day by 3d scan that the implant he installed is not near the nerve canal so his feeling was to leave it in. I would rather leave it in and not risk causing more damage to an already injured nerve. Now the confusing part is when i got a second opinion from a different dentist he advised me to take the implant out.
Avatar f tn Has anybody had a tooth implant ? Could you tell me if it hurts? and what it's like? How long does it take ?
Avatar n tn Long story - had a very traumatic tooth #14 extraction, resulted in dry socket, bits of bone and tooth left in the gum. Had those bits removed by a second dentist. Then waited months for bone to 'fill in' (no bone graft). Following that, had the implant put in, and while waiting for that to take, the screw worked itself out - had to replace that. Continued to have inexplicable pain - throbbing, aching - had the implant removed 5 months later.
Avatar f tn I had 4 dental implants on top (my 4 front teeth) in 1998 at U.I.C. dental school. They botched big time & never finished it. So in 2006 I had the one put it that U.I.C. didn't do at another implant specialist. Since then I'm had tiny pimples on my upper lip. By 2010 I had a full-blown rash all over my face. I called them to ask what the materials were & they never returned my call. I called in 2011 & they told me they were titanium & hung up.
Avatar m tn This implant is not good. So, I took a CT Scan to see the implant 3-dimension. There is no bone to cover the outer side of my implant AT ALL. Oral surgeon said this implant definitely need to be taken out. otherwise, it will damage my gum and will bring other problems. SO, I will ask an oral surgeon to take my implant out, do bone graft, and redo implant again. Which means I have to go through a serious of painful and lengthy process again.
Avatar f tn i searched for my tooth and i found it i didnt feel any pain except in my inner lip it was bleeding my tooth too....but nothing in the gum above my tooth...i went to the dentist immeadiatly he told meafter the x ray that the nerve is exposed after removing it he found a crack a vertical one from the right to the left....he told me that he cant put a crown and an implant must be done...
Avatar m tn I too have had a cental implant in my front tooth. I am considering having the implant taken out. I have checked with many surgeons. They say I can lose the tooth on either side. I can get infection. But the one I like the best is in Philadelphia area. Has done this before and feels he would be able to remove it safely but that there is always that possibilty of that happening. Please keep me posted on what you decide and how things go.
Avatar n tn Had implant surgery 7/07 (2 upper; 5 lower). Procedure was a 15 hr ordeal. After several months and numerous addt'l procedures, I thought the worst part was over. I was wrong--but I couldn't necessarily attribute it to the implant surgery, but now I'm beginning to wonder. - I woke up one morning in May 08 and saw that the left side of my face was swollen (inside and out). Went to primary care doctor who ordered MRI, CT scan and blood tests. All results were normal.
Avatar n tn They may have placed the implant at an angle due to the significant bone loss you stated having. Hopefully once the new crown is placed, you will be pain free again.
Avatar m tn s not the age that matters, rather the location of ASD. If there is a lip to catch on to around the ASD then a catheter based repair is feasible and preferable. If on the other hand, there isn't a circumferential lip around the opening, surgical closure would be indicated. The fainting episodes are concerning and should be worked up further paying special attention to her conduction system in the heart. 2. It's safe at 65 or older. 3. The body does not reject the device.
