383138 tn?1314167773 wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday. I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
Avatar f tn has anyone dane this??? I was inpatient at JH back in February and had a specific IV Infusion that supposedly is only performed there. BUT I FORGET THE NAME OF IT!!! its is a terribly long medical (the ones we dont even try to pronounce) name but shortened with initials. . . . . I am currently in patient at Methodist - Jefferson Headache Unit for the pain I am having and my body has rejected the DHE! I got violently sick last night . . . . it was horrible.
Avatar n tn I have never heard of them being addictive...lidocaine is a numbing agent when it is used on the skin....when given IV it can be used to treat heart rhythm disturbances...I guess if you put like 20 on it could affect your heart but addictive...
Avatar n tn 9 days ago my new dentist gave me a large dose of lidocaine/epinephrine on back molar (#17). Deep filling was needed. Most of my tongue has been numb since this procedure and I have had heart palpitations, chest pounding off and on since this happened. Also start shivering off and on. For past 3 days I have had chest pain when lying down...chest feels like it is being squeezed. Feel it now in any position but lying down increases the feeling. For past 2 days intense headache.
Avatar n tn After the lauging gas and in the process of receiving 2.0cc of 2% lidocaine(she weighs approx. 45 pounds), she had an immediate seizure. According to the dental notes, her oxygen saturation were never under 97% and she took approx. 1 1/2 hours to become coherent. She essentially slept through the ER visit (2 hours). The ER doctor said that the seizure was caused by the lidocaine(no MRI or CAT) and she has had no discernable after effects.
Avatar f tn I always have to be premedicated with steroids IV and IV Benadryl before receiving most IV meds. My nursing background has sure come in handy; however never wanted to have to use it on myself.
Avatar m tn Hi All. I am scheduled for a biopsy and learned that they offer an option not to use IV sedation. I have done many biopsies before, but they routinely use IV anesthetic. I wonder if anybody has experience of a biopsy where they use only local anesthesia around the area of needle stick. Was it too much discomfort? The advantage for me is to be able to drive home by myself and perhaps saving some $$.
Avatar f tn Ask for a pca pump in the ICU. This way you can dose yourself only what you need. Make them have Zofran AND Phenergan ready IV if you need it. Get OFF narcotics as soon as you can by trying Tylenol and Motrin IV. This worked for me, you will be much more alert and feel better sooner. Also, try the Lidocaine patches on your neck instead of the muscle relaxers. They work great and have no side effects.
Avatar f tn I did a lot of research on the internet and found out there are two numbing creams LMX 4% Lidocaine, (available behind the counter) and EMLA 2.5% Lidocaine, 2.5% Prilocaine which requires a prescription. I bought both, and actually tested them on myself at home, by sticking insulin needles in myself after 2 hours of leaving the numbing cream on, and it works!
Avatar m tn my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches. advice as to where to put the needle (i got from cvs insulin 31g-8mm),what to expect ie: will it burn- how long b4 its numb, and if i split the nail will it grow back? any advice will help..
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hey. I went to my PCP yesterday and he gave me a LIDODERM, a lidocaine patch, to try and help with the pain in my neck -he thinks if that calms down so will the migraines.. theyve been everyday constantly for well over a month and a half, and no meds help.. nor do therapeutic methods i have here at home.. Has anyone here used it before? And did it help? I tried to use it last night but it wouldnt stick to my neck.
Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
5829441 tn?1383775568 ) natural all the way .... pretty painful lol... congrats again!!!!
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
306455 tn?1288862071 lotsatrout...good idea...you ought to get a patent....lidocaine suit...i like that!!! ...My educated guess says it is not addictive!!!...and we know where my educated guesses have gotten me before!!!
Avatar f tn It probably isn't the lidocaine, it's the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn Look at the ingredients on the bottle. Benzocaine is mostly made up of lidocaine -a numbing agent in no way related to cocaine. You are more likely to test positive for THC (pot) from using motrin.
Avatar n tn Another would be done in the Surgery Dept. and you would be given an IV sedation type of anesthesia. The needle biopsies are done with a local anesthetic and can be rather uncomfortable to some women.
673999 tn?1226935279 The new standard inoffice bladder instillation for IC is Lidocaine instillation with bicarbonate solution. The lidocaine is a local anesthetic and the bicarbonate allows the lidocaine to penetrate the bladder wall to get to the bladder nerves. Lidocaine without the bicarbonate solution has only minimal bladder wall penetration and very short duration of action (minutes to an hour).
Avatar m tn I have read previous posts, but am wondering what medications would cause a false negative 4th gen test. Medication that I am concerned about is lidocaine viscous. My Doctor has told me several times that it would not and that I am conclusive non-reactive. But just checking.
Avatar f tn Recently I developed a pain that was excruiating and out of control lasting for a week until a neurologist put me in the hospital and gave me IV Thorazine and Decadron. He then referred me to a neurosurgeon who basically said I wasn't a candidate and gave me a steroid pack to take. I don't know if it's the Lyrica 150mg a day or the Tegretol 700mg a day or the steroid that is making me better?
Avatar f tn It's super easy! I felt a punch and a slight sting from the lidocaine and then it was easy as pie after that!! Although usually it's in an IV drip now so it stays in your back throughout your whole labor and delivery!
Avatar n tn t have a headache. I understand that there is a test or treatment involving lidocaine dripped directly on the sphenopalatine nerve. How do I get to the right specialist. More importantly, do my symptoms sound like this syndrome. I plan to explore this more with my doctor which is 12 days away.
