Lidocaine for throat

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for throat

Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
my mom had a reaction to lidocaine at her dentist. the left side of her face went numb and tingly as did her lips, tongue and throat. her dentist figured it was a reaction to the injection. she went to her allergist who tested here for it. right away she had a systemic reaction to it! they told her to avoid all caines. any suggestions as to what can be done at the dentist instead, her dentist has no suggestions. keep in mind my mom has chemical sensitivies and has MANY allergies!
Nebulized Pulmicort, Advair, Asmanex, etc. For me, they irritate the throat and bronchial passages creating as much harm as good. I can tolerate Symbicort (probably because it is an aerosol rather than powder) and it does open passages somewhat but it nonetheless irritates and begins a cycle of thin mucous drainage. Curious if anyone has tried lidocaine.
and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
I have twice received a modest injection of Lidocaine by my dermatologst. This has been to numb the skin as he shaves off a portion of skin for a biopsy. Within a minute or two of the injection, my throat scratches and my eyes water a bit. It is rather mild and subsides after a minute or two. No after affects. I will have other such procedures in the near future. Is this an issue I should be concerned about? Should I visit an allergyst?
Hi. Chemotherapy can cause sore throat in two ways: by direct injury to the lining of the oral cavity resulting in throat ulcers, or indirectly by lowering the body's resistance to infection (lowering white cell counts), resulting in tonsillo-pharyngitis (infection of the oral cavity). So treating the sore throat means treating the ulcers as well as the infection. Antibiotics can be given for the infection. It may also be helpful to check if your husband's white cell counts are low.
i have been experiening tight throat for the past week. I suffer form generalized anxiety from time to time. I took a benedryl thinking it might be alergies but after i eat it tends to get worse. I don't have a problem eating or drinking. Is this acid reflux? Or allergies? This discussion is related to Tight throat.
Thanks for the tips! It seems to have turned into just a really nasty cold at this point. The horrible "swallowing knives" throat seems to have gone away and been replaced by congestion, runny nose, headache, and all the other classic cold symptoms. I've never had a cold start out with such a horrible sore throat before!
I'm on my 17th week of interferon and ribavarin and lately my tongue and throat feel dry and very sensitive...like a burning/stinging sensation. The Dr. doesn't say much about it. Matter of fact...pretty much anything..he sums up to side effects. For example...I have these bumpy red spots on my arms, neck and legs. They itch constantly and the surface of my skin has become leathery. My blood panel isn't to far out of whack..except my TSH which is a 45.1...where the normal range should be .
Has anyone ever experienced this? She is calling in a steriod paste for me to use. Sounds Disgusting!!! HELP!!
I have had a fullness feeling in by throat/upper chest for the past 8 days and I don't know what it is. I have lost my appetite and have a hard time making myself eat. It's very strange, my throat doesn't hurt and my stomach doesn't hurt but I feel nauseous. I had a sinus infection and bronchitis, finished the antibiotics and since then I have had this issue. I'm still coughing up mucus and that is what it feels like is in my throat.
to clear my throat without making it so obvious (but I do it discretely more for my sake as not to hurt my throat ) as I have learnt on a number of occasions that forcing it to come out is counterproductive and can make the feeling 'of something stuck' even worse. I am really hoping that somehow you have cured this dreadful ailment and that you are willing to share some words of wisdom. (Hope you are still in contact with this thread). Please let me know either way.
Has your hubby ever seen an ENT specialist for his throat issue? It could be due to herpes but it's more likely to be from a sinusitis or gerd or something along those lines.
Constant phlegm / nasopharynx area I had the feeling something was lodged in my nasopharynx for about a week, but prior to that, I had the thick mucous plugs that I just couldn't seem to either spit up or swallow--for probably a year.
Then I went to visit a doctor for a lidocaine injection for pain and it made me feel terrible despite my vitals all being ok. I shrugged it off eventually after a few days. I then had to move away from home about a month later. While driving through a dusty area (which i have driven through before...) i felt like I couldn't breathe. Sure enough I stopped at a gas station to recoupe myself and got driving again. Eventually felt ok.
another wierd thing was i was hypothermic when the burning started...for some reason my body tempeture went way down to like 94...for awhile for no freakin reason. she tried to put me on 'dopomax' for wt. issues but i can't take it cause i'm asthmatic so i am still fat... there is good news...i did lose 2 lbs despite the meds by exercise/diet ( insane exercise and little food) don't know how healthy it is to reduce food intake that low...
Hello and thank-you for reading. To start off I'm 18 and I have had GERD ever since I was 6. Also I am obese, I weigh 350 lbs and I'm 5'11". About 3-6 years ago (it's hard to recall) I have had a very uncomfortable feeling of air or pressure in my esophagus at varying levels whenever I eat. I normally drink water and it seems to go away with minimal pain and effort. About 2 months ago I was unable to get to a drink when I started having this feeling, after 5 minutes I got a drink of water.
Brian~ Yes,trust me, there is legal cocaine. It does not come in the form of white powder, however. :) I'll send you a PM...
I do not understand the thought process behind valium for it. The standard treatment for VCD is to control triggers and speach therapy. So, step one would be to get her allergies and sinus congestion with I assume post nasal drip under control, make sure there is no acid reflux, and see if odors are a trigger for her. If you google search vocal cord dysfunction you could find some videos demonstrating some basic breathing techniques to help stop a VCD attacks.
I asked my friend, the chemo nurse, for the recipe .. here's her reply: "We give our pts Magic Mouthwash...equal parts of: maalox elixir of benadryl viscous lidocaine It's a prescription, but I bet if you ask your Dr to order it he would. You just swish and spit it out. If the sores are in your throat, you can swish and swallow". (I have not needed to use it, but understand it's pretty effective).
the woman was period. I used lidocaine spray to elongate our sex time. i wore condom and for some minutes we had sex but the blood was all over my shaft and my stomach but my skin was healthy. my shaft unerected because of the spray, so I pulled out the condom and washed my penis. for some minutes she played with my penis to erect again, then I wore another condom and started to have vaginal sex again.
for the past 16 days I have had an extremely sore throat. it started off mild enough. dr put me on amoxil for 7 days. finished it up, by the time I finished it, my throat was worse. then i was prescribed biaxin xl for 10 days, today is day number 10 and the past 2 days i have felt like i'm swallowing razor blades (no exaggeration) when i swallow drink or eat, it's so painful. tylenol and naproxen are no longer working.
It's almost as if the muscles are tight/constricted for whatever reason and don't move properly and therefore I feel pain. I feel around my throat area and can't find any lumps and there isn't any swelling. However, at times, the right side of my throat does feel a little "tighter" by touch than my left side. In addition, over the past few weeks, I've also developed a discomfort in the right hand side of the back of my neck (basically at the base of the skull).
My husband was diagnosed with throat cancer the end of October of 2008 and he is now more than 1/2 way through his treatment which is - 36 radiation and 3 chemo treatments. He has had a feeding tube (PEG) placed little over a week ago and now pain is so severe in his throat isn't eating at all and swallowing very little water. He is having the thick white mucous so bad that he is spitting in a cup all day long and at times is chocking. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?
I have a lot of the same symptoms as you. I had an inflamed, scratchy raw sore throat for months. Antibiotics didn't help so I saw an ENT. He looked in my throat and saw the inflammation, as well as swollen lingual tonsils. That's what adds to the 'something stuck in your throat' feeling. I, too, don't have heartburn symptoms. But with LPR, the acid washes up into your throat (mostly at night), but doesnt hang out in the esophagus long enough to have typical GERD symptoms.
For three months, I have been so ill that I have been in and out of the hospital, and they don't have a clue what is wrong. When this started, it was because an anesthesiologist put the wrong size tube down my esophagus instead of my trach, and I got extremely ill. I started having the worst burning pain in my chest and throat that I have ever had. Then, I had explosive vomiting and diahrrea for about a month. At one point, I was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
I was just diagnosed with a bad case of strep throat and I'm having a horrible time with it. it feels like I've been swallowing fire - even drinking water brings tears to my eyes. My doctor prescribed an antibiotic (Ceftin - I'm allergic to quite a number of antibiotics so have to be careful what I take) and also a gargle/mouthwash called Magic Mouthwash that has lidocaine, benadryl and Maalox in it that I can gargle with four times a day to help numb my throat and ease the pain.
I was hospitalized twice, they did a stomach emptying test which showed normal, two endoscopies, which were normal, a motility test which was normal, and did a PH test, which was normal, but I was in such severe pain that I was given straight lidocaine to drink for the discomfort. They still don't know what the problem was, but at one point, was admitted in critical condition.
I am always interested in alternatives I just know I need to be careful because I do take rx meds for other health issues I do not want anything that will interact with them or effect my health other issues. I also would want my primary care doctor to know about this and I would want to have some peer reviewed research to give him.
