Lidocaine for sore throat

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for sore throat

lidoderm

Lidocaine is given via the ETT (not IV) to reduce the incidence and severity of sore throat after extubation and has a lower incidence of bucking during tracheal extubation.
Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
Hi. Chemotherapy can cause sore throat in two ways: by direct injury to the lining of the oral cavity resulting in throat ulcers, or indirectly by lowering the body's resistance to infection (lowering white cell counts), resulting in tonsillo-pharyngitis (infection of the oral cavity). So treating the sore throat means treating the ulcers as well as the infection. Antibiotics can be given for the infection. It may also be helpful to check if your husband's white cell counts are low.
Thanks for the tips! It seems to have turned into just a really nasty cold at this point. The horrible "swallowing knives" throat seems to have gone away and been replaced by congestion, runny nose, headache, and all the other classic cold symptoms. I've never had a cold start out with such a horrible sore throat before!
I had the one under the tongue at the back of throat and thought I had a sore throatuntil others appeared in one cheek area. Used Biotene mouthwash 3-4 times a day and they started to clear up.. Also had lidocaine swish by prescription to paint on before eating. Didn't 'swish' in mouth because didn't want to bite myself with a numb tongue. It takes a few days for them to start to clear.
About a month ago, my mouth got really sore. Went to the hep doc and he said I had what they call strawberry tongue (ha, hadnt even been eating strawberries!) Anyway, it has progressively gotten worse to the point that I can hardly swallow and have red bumps on back of tongue. VERY PAINFUL! Been to PCP and had strept test done (awaiting results). The hep doc said she thought it might be stomatitis. What the heck is that? Has anyone ever experienced this?
to clear my throat without making it so obvious (but I do it discretely more for my sake as not to hurt my throat ) as I have learnt on a number of occasions that forcing it to come out is counterproductive and can make the feeling 'of something stuck' even worse. I am really hoping that somehow you have cured this dreadful ailment and that you are willing to share some words of wisdom. (Hope you are still in contact with this thread). Please let me know either way.
Then I went to visit a doctor for a lidocaine injection for pain and it made me feel terrible despite my vitals all being ok. I shrugged it off eventually after a few days. I then had to move away from home about a month later. While driving through a dusty area (which i have driven through before...) i felt like I couldn't breathe. Sure enough I stopped at a gas station to recoupe myself and got driving again. Eventually felt ok.
Now how ever , she may be getting something on her lip in addition to the sore she has in the back of her throat.
Has everyone on here specifically get tested for both type 1 and type 2 herpes??? I would freak out if I saw a canker sore on my vagina!!! I found an abrasion once freaked out whent to a dr! The stupid dr wouldn't swab the area for herpes!!!! I still will never know if it is or not! It pisses me off!!! But I only had one abrasion not multiple and at the time I was suffering from a yeast infection and BV!!!
for the past 16 days I have had an extremely sore throat. it started off mild enough. dr put me on amoxil for 7 days. finished it up, by the time I finished it, my throat was worse. then i was prescribed biaxin xl for 10 days, today is day number 10 and the past 2 days i have felt like i'm swallowing razor blades (no exaggeration) when i swallow drink or eat, it's so painful. tylenol and naproxen are no longer working.
I have a lot of the same symptoms as you. I had an inflamed, scratchy raw sore throat for months. Antibiotics didn't help so I saw an ENT. He looked in my throat and saw the inflammation, as well as swollen lingual tonsils. That's what adds to the 'something stuck in your throat' feeling. I, too, don't have heartburn symptoms. But with LPR, the acid washes up into your throat (mostly at night), but doesnt hang out in the esophagus long enough to have typical GERD symptoms.
It's almost as if the muscles are tight/constricted for whatever reason and don't move properly and therefore I feel pain. I feel around my throat area and can't find any lumps and there isn't any swelling. However, at times, the right side of my throat does feel a little "tighter" by touch than my left side. In addition, over the past few weeks, I've also developed a discomfort in the right hand side of the back of my neck (basically at the base of the skull).
I've had the most horrible burning sore throat for almost a week now, along with periodic headache, severe fatigue, loss of appetite, joint pains (a lot more than normal for me), periodic fevers, chills and extremely swollen and sore glands in my neck/throat. I went to an urgent care facility the day before yesterday (was unable to get in to see my family physician) and the doc there strongly felt I had strep throat.
A year ago, I had routine knee surgery and when I woke up my throat was sore. The anesthesiologist told me it would be sore for a day or son because she had to use "too big of a tube," she didn't have one that fit down my throat. Oky, well, I didn't think anything of it, but literally two days later I was sicker than a dog. Vomiting so horrible I had to walk around with a trash can!
I had my tonsils removed and it is still happening. Yesterday I got a apple stuck in my throat I had to clear my throat just for it to come up very painful!!
For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
He has put a little scope down my throat and saw nothing. Then I was sent for a CAT Scan with contrast and also nothing came up. Nothing abnormal appears in the throat or frontal neck area. It's frustrating because I know I'm not imagining the pain. I just kind of learned to live with it. I've had it for over a year now, and it hasn't really gotten worse.
It was the worst sore throat I had ever had and I had some heart burn after about I had the sore throat for a week. After loosing ten pounds I decided to go to the doctor. She said it was a virus and put me on antibiotics just incase. NOTHING HAPPEND after finishing the antibiotics I felt worse and was even more worried. I then proceeded to go to another doctor after thinking I had cancer from these stupid websites. He immediately new what was wrong after he looked in my throat.

Yes I'm on the flexaril still. It only helps w stiffness, & its half a normal dose, plus it makes me so sleepy I rarely take it. I think the mobic may b helping some bc my hip didn't hurt quit as bad today, compared to others. & when u said u felt like u had a cold was it a runny nose & sore throat? Bc I've had that all day after taking it..?
My doc has told me not to worry but I'm petrified it could be some sort of chronic vulva pain (though my vulva doesn't look 'normal' you'd know something was wrong and I don't experiance the burning pain that its accosicated with and my doc has said that that's the worst case sinareo and my problem can most likely be fully treated by the right specialist) but I know I can't cope with this for much longer. Its really getting me down and doing daily activites is very sore.
I felt so tired, i got a fever and burning pain when i was urinating. doctor diagnosed me with UTI. Also I got a sore on the back of my throat. For my UTI doctor prescribe me amoxicillin and for my sore lidocaine viscous. On saturday night i noticed that i have a sore around vagina area. The sore is circle shaped red and looks it is fill with puss. Today i woke up i found 5 new sores. Are they herpes. Im freaking out .
Said he's never seen that, and maybe I had a sore throat already there. I absolutely did not. I am assuming the medications he used must of irritated me very badly. my throat is very red in that area. Would it more likely be the Lidacaine or the neo-senephrine he used.? Does anybody know how long it takes to go away? I also got a bad headache from it, but I don't care much about that. But my throat is on fire.
I went in for a routine knee repair and the anesthesiologist (not licensed, I just found out!), put the tube down the wrong pipe in my throat and really screwed me up. Then, when I woke up, she told me that I would have a "really bad sore throat for awhile" because she said that she "couldn't find the right size tube, because my throat was so small, so she crammed the one she had down my throat and my throat was raw!!
I agree with AnnieBrooke - you need to be seen by a different doctor! And preferably an ear, nose and throat doc! When you have a throat so sore that you can barely swallow, can't eat at all and have ulcers on your tonsils, SOMETHING definitely needs to be done! Did your doc even bother to do a strep test or anything? Strep throat can also cause ulcers in the throat and mouth and strep is definitely something that neeeds to be treated with antibiotics.
No test for mono, just swollen lymph nodes and tonsils. I had a big scare it was form hiv but im negative on that thankgod. If its mono, then what do i do? does it go away on its own.
Luckily, I had no mouth sores, just raw mouth, throat. I also used nystantin oral susp. for that, helped a lot. Yogurt also. Think that Magic mouth wash is the best for the sores (as Bobby said) Sorry your having a bad day/time. Feel better ...
The issue is that even though my tonsil was enlarged before I didn't have any pain in my throat, but yesterday when I woke up I had a sore throat. I have never had this type of throat problem before (I'm 22 years old). I would appreciate if anyone could tell me something I could do to fix this throat problem because it is extremely annoying. Thank you.
