Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for ear pain

Avatar n tn Take a tube sock and fill it with dry rice and tie the sock off and then microwave it for 1 minute and 30 seconds and then apply it to your ear. It will ease the pain and draw out the infection. All the pain and numbness is from the infection being so bad. But i would call your family doc back and tell them.
Avatar m tn d get drops Lidocaine to help numb things as the pain was awful and the noise in that ear was terrible. My hearing improved too! The surgery didn't work out for me, I still have alot of problems. I do cold laser and chiropractic adjustments to the jaw. They use a little thing like a shot giver. It doesn't hurt. But since I started doing that no more tinnitus at all and better hearing. I actually was getting migraine like headaches from the jaw which resolved too.
Avatar n tn For approx 5 months I have had severe internal ear pain, which has now moved down into my jaw - I have been on (2) antibiotics, sudafed and claritin with no relief - I have been to an ENT and family doc and they say that it is allergies....I do not think so. I am at a loss and do not know where to go from here. If anyone has advice, I'd truly appreciate it. My fear is the longer the pain continues and grows, the worse the condition will get. I look forward to a response.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a FNA on 03/07, also one in 2005. I didn't get the side effects you were talking about. The first dr. (in 2005) was definately "rougher" than the doctor who performed the FNA a couple of weeks ago. I ended up with light bruising, which I took care of with ice. It was uncomfortable for maybe a day and a half later, but then I was fine. I didn't experience ear pain, but my neck was a little stiff, but it was no big deal! Hope you're feeling better soon!
Avatar n tn I am 4 yrs out since my facelift and am still dealing with chronic pain, tightness from ear to ear and now radiating up the left side of my face. I have spent this past year going to a long list of drs including specialists to no avail. I am returning again to the original surgeon that left me in this mess...he got tired of hearing from me and pretty much told me he couldn't help me. I can not bear to live in this pain. If you have any success with treatment, etc please contact me.
Avatar f tn As stated big lymph node removed, and of course the area on my neck going up to the jawline was numb to the touch. No nerve block but lidocaine used. Now it’s been 38 hours and it’s still dead numb to the touch. Haven’t even used my pain medication. I can tell it’s swollen though as well I swallow/chew I feel a tight clenching there that makes it a bit difficult.
Avatar f tn Recently I developed a pain that was excruiating and out of control lasting for a week until a neurologist put me in the hospital and gave me IV Thorazine and Decadron. He then referred me to a neurosurgeon who basically said I wasn't a candidate and gave me a steroid pack to take. I don't know if it's the Lyrica 150mg a day or the Tegretol 700mg a day or the steroid that is making me better?
Avatar n tn I have been struggling with TN for about 8 years now. You certainly can have ear pain related to TN and I feel for you...it just flipping hurts! Laura is right to point you to your neurologist. Seizure meds are what are generally started with for your pain. TN pain will not usually respond to anaelgesics so Tegretol is the number 1 pick followed by meds that will complement it such as Gabapentin, Topamax etc.
Avatar n tn Also start shivering off and on. For past 3 days I have had chest pain when lying down...chest feels like it is being squeezed. Feel it now in any position but lying down increases the feeling. For past 2 days intense headache. Epinephrine should be out of my system, right? Could the chest pain be caused by days of extreme fear and anxiety? I'm pretty scared and wondering if I'm going to have a stroke. (Am 42, female, non-smoker, normal weight with no heart problems as far as I know.
Avatar f tn Just flew to Pa and back, not having flown since 2007 (boy the TSA changes) and experienced extreme ear pain upon descent and landing and for several hours afterwards. Tried peppermints, gum, swallowing, you name it………. Could it be one of those quirky little symptoms that come and go on those occasions (not looking forward to that again…..
Avatar f tn ESI no help, steroids, massage, PT, acupuncture and meds not helping. Lidocaine parches were no help, 1200mg gabapentin per day takes pain from 9 to 7. Cannot work, sleep or exercise normally due to weakness. Dropping things constantly with right arm. I am scared of narcotic pain meds but cannot live like this, pain is constant and about to make me lose my mind! Please tell me what next step should be.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever used a pain patch for their TMJ pain? have some Lidoderm patches, which contain 5% Lidocaine, which I have for my fibaro and spine problems. I just got back from Reno, Nv, which was an 1143 mile round trip. The trip down was fine, but the trip back today was in rain, hail, wind and snow. Needless to say now in more pain than ever. I had a massage while there, concentrated on the head, neck and shoulders. Masseuse commented I had a major major amt of tight muscles and knots.
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
Avatar n tn Have had rectal pain for 2 months, thought it was hemorrhoids, GI and family doctors said it wasn't and didn't know what it was from for sure. Said to see a pain management doctor thinking it is a nerve in my recturm? However, I am confused as to what the pain management dr would do since no definite diagnosis. I tried everything over the counter including lidocaine with no relief. The pain is constant and only relief is when I sleep. Worried!!!
383138 tn?1314167773 So when I told him about the pain dr. wanting to do a lidocaine IV infusion for my pain, the cardio. said no because if the lidocaine triggers that type of fast hearbeat again, my heart probably won't survive it, even with medical intervention. It would be done in a hospital with cardiac monitors because the lidocaine does have heart warnings on it for anyone getting it (even with normal hearts).
Avatar f tn He sent me home with prescriptions for pain, and antibiotic, an antibacterial mouth rinse and a lidocaine rinse and instructions to return in two weeks.Today the pain has gotten worse it radiates into my ear and occasionally my eye. I can't imagine having this intense pain for two weeks. My question is since the pain was so much worse today should I call the oral surgeon again or is this in fact something that I have to wait two weeks on?
Avatar m tn A palatable mass may be observed in the tonsillar fossa, its palpation sometimes exacerbating the patient’s symptoms. Symptoms include ear pain, neck pain extending to the oral cavity and the maxilla, dysphonia, dysphagia, odynophagia, persistent sore throat, the sensation of a foreign body in the pharynx, painful trismus <25 mm, vertigo and tinnitus. Pain is also observed when turning the head or extending the tongue.
Avatar f tn My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn Hi, six months after my left-side thoracotomy I was yesterday told by my surgeon (USA) that I need to get Lidocaine intercostal nerve-block injections for a persistent pain issue I'm having. Here in my country, Cyprus, though, it's impossible to find someone who has experience in injecting Lidocaine on the thorax. So, my second option is UK, but still I would need to find someone specialized on this type of nerve-block. Any recommendations?
