383138 tn?1314167773 Thank you for your reply. It is an IV lidocaine infusion done in a hospital with cardiac monitors on, and it is infused over a period of time just to see if I get any pain relief since my pain is throughout my entire back and neck. Since my pain is constant and very severe, the pain dr. wants to see if he can give me some relief of all pain at once by the infusion, it may not even work, and if it does, the relief only lasts from a couple hours up to possibly a week.
Avatar n tn I really appreciate it. Will the dentist be annoyed if I ask him to use lidocaine without epinephrine? Because, doesn't this mean he will have to keep injecting me to keep me numb? I have never been allergic to preservative substances as far as i am aware. If I do not use antibiotics prior or post root canal do i put myself at risk for infection? Thanks again!
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn t know what the diagnosis is for your heart problems, but i do have a remedy for heart health that is supposed to be highly preventitive for any clogged arteries by removing it. You mix onion juice, garlic juice, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar together. 1 cup of each, in a pot and boil it for like 20 to 30 minutes until about 3 cups of fluid remains. Then, wait until it cools and mix it in a jar with 3 cups of honey.
Avatar n tn There is no need to be anxious over having oral surgery with local anesthetic. It is your friend...remember that. Heck, I'd pull a tooth on a patient with no anesthesia if he or she could take it. I won't feel a thing. The anesthesia is available for the comfort of the patient. As far as the use of "caine" anesthetics, you are painting with too broad a brush.
Avatar n tn The discomfort can be relieved by using 5% lidocaine transdermal patches, available by prescription. Use fior no more than twelve hours at a time. The lidocaine migrates and reduces ventricular sensitivity and very ocasionally cardiac problems, so talk with your doctor. What troubles me is the fact these are pressure related issues and some way should be devised to reduce the pressure on your skin. One way is to sit on an inflatable pad. Another is to sit on bubble wrap.
Avatar m tn I am terrified of needles too and I FELT NOTHING.. They used Buffered Lidocaine injection which I did not feel any of.. I must admit, I did put over the counter Lidocaine cream all over my breast about an hour before the procedure. I used this Lidocaine cream on my arm before a tetanus shot that I had to get and was so afraid of and I was screaming for the nurse to WAIT but.. IT WAS ALREADY DONE! Helps a lot so you don't feel pain. Nurse also gave me tips for next time I get an injection.
Avatar n tn t find any scientific articles that specifically deal with positive test results of cocaine from the use of lidocaine (anesthetic) but it is mentioned a few times. Here's a website with the information posted for false positives. You may want to contact the writer of the article to see what his/her sources were. http://www.med.nyu.edu/patientcare/library/article.html?
Avatar n tn Hello, My sister needs extensive dental work i.e. root canals and fillings and crowns. She is a heart patient and we are wondering if Lidocaine, EPI, or any of the 'caines' are safe for dental work in heart patients? We do not want to start an arrythmia attack. Any safe meds? Thanks much.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
Avatar n tn It certainly can be depending on the difficulty of the extraction and whether there was an infection present at the time of the extraction. It also can be related to the age of the patient and medications she might be taking.

Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn A number of cardiac drugs, including digitalis, lidocaine, diltiazem, procainamide, atropine, and propanalol (Inderal), are used to control arrhythmias in dogs. Dogs whose primary problem is an arrhythmia may be able to have a pacemaker implanted to help control the heart rate. The heart will ultimately give-in, resulting usually in cardiac failure (heart attack).
Avatar f tn My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
Avatar m tn In 2001 I suffered a massive MI and a prolonged cardiac arrest. It was some 45 mins before they got a regular sustained rhythmn again, I was "defibrillated" several times and they even went beyond protocol to save me. Fortunately for me they did. However, ever since then I have felt different. My memory which used to be a particular strength of mine was weaker, and my ability to multitask almost went overnight. I often forget peoples names or the next word that I want to say.
Avatar f tn I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant. I've experienced pain during sex since the first time doing it and I've done it over 30 times. Lost my virginity 6 months ago. I never really expected it to hurt so much and for so long! I think I've only had like 3/4 times where I have experienced little pain to no pain. I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean I am well lubricated etc and use extra lube on top. It's just very painful for me....
Avatar f tn I have had ic for 5 years and also have urolgical pain in and around the vagina area. I use ice packs to calm the pain and have used heating pads. I am on elmiron, take prometrium for hormones which helps with sleep also. I have done bio feedback for pain and urgency. I am considering a vestibulectomy to relieve some of the pelvic pain. Avatar f tn Can aspercreme with lidocaine be used on a burn caused by a flame if its not blistered
1264863 tn?1391118193 hi there, go call you physician or dentist and ask for a prescription of benadryl, maalox, and lidocaine. It is commonly known as the "magic mouthwash" and I used to prescribe it all the time for patients going through chemo or had systemic diseases that created chronic apthous ulcers (aka canker sores.) If for some reason you can't get to the dr., use the combination of equal parts liquid benadryl and maalox (or mylanta) gargle and swish for 60 seconds then spit..
Avatar n tn My first ultra sound FNA was a done by a Radiologist. I felt the 1st stick of lidocaine. I didn't feel the other needle sticks, but felt lots of pressure. The Radiologist seemed to have lots of problems getting the needle into the nodule even though it was ultra sound guided. He poked around in me for about 25 minutes before getting a sample. I was scared to death and could feel the needle inside my throat every time I swallowed. Two days later, I was told the sample was not adequate.
Avatar n tn Lidocaine can indeed trigger a positive on a test for cocaine. although the amounts used in trigger point therapy are minute and the half-life is short. What you need is an attorney (this will be difficult because most of the public aide attorneys are useless as a screen door in a submarine) and a certified true copy of your medical records. This attorney has to register an immediate written protest to child protective services, and request a hearing to re-unite you with your child.
Avatar n tn All local anesthetic used in dentistry today are amides rather than esters. With the old ester-type locals (no longer used), cross-allergenicity did occur, so if you were allergic to one ester-type local anaesthetic, all the others were contraindicated. The good thing about the amides used nowadays is that cross-allergenicity does not occur. In other words, allergy to one amide local doesn't mean that you're allergic to other amide locals.
