Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for back pain

lidoderm

Avatar f tn After giving birth to my 2nd child, I had an MRI of my lower back to help determine the cause of low back pain. It showed a bulging disc and a herniated disc at L4-L5 and L5-S1. Underwent disc decompression and that corrected this. The pain was still there. My GP determined that the little fatty "knots" in my low back were back mice and began injecting them wtih lidocaine. This gave me temporary relief. I'm still having pain and the back mice are still there.
14051 tn?1238251732 proposed celiac plexus nerve block using X-ray and lidocaine only for pancreatic cancer pain and to reduce pain killer dependence.. I see alcohol or phenol most often mentioned for this. Anyone know if lidocaine only successful?
Avatar f tn have some Lidoderm patches, which contain 5% Lidocaine, which I have for my fibaro and spine problems. I just got back from Reno, Nv, which was an 1143 mile round trip. The trip down was fine, but the trip back today was in rain, hail, wind and snow. Needless to say now in more pain than ever. I had a massage while there, concentrated on the head, neck and shoulders. Masseuse commented I had a major major amt of tight muscles and knots. (Gee, I already knew that!
Avatar f tn Any suggestions im only 5 months and already having horrible back pain!
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
210982 tn?1280983895 You rub it on the area of pain. My uncle who had cancer found that it was the only thing that took his back pain away. It has some sort of lidocaine, novocaine, or zylocaine properties in it that numbs the area of pain.I think you would benefit from it. You can pick it up from Walmart. If not, ask your doc For some Zylocaine Jelly. This is prescription strength and numbs the area really good, without making you feel high.Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn No I have implanted pacemaker/defibrillator. Recently i developed severe back pain and can barely walk. I got prescribed Norco, lidocaine patches, and diclofenac 75 mg. Yesterday I took Norco and I put a lidocaine patch and I woke up with weird heart sensation, like slow heart rate or something. Could it be caused by lidocaine patch? I also take the following medication: Atorvastatin Calcium 80 Mg- 1 tab in the evening Carvedilol 6.

Avatar f tn They only provide relief for two days and the pain was back. Now I am looking for something that will get me relief for a longer time. I have three compression fractures in my lower back from cow flipping a four wheeler over on me. I own a pecan farm/cattle ranch so I am always going and I can’t be laid up long. Will burning the nerves help?
383138 tn?1314167773 So when I told him about the pain dr. wanting to do a lidocaine IV infusion for my pain, the cardio. said no because if the lidocaine triggers that type of fast hearbeat again, my heart probably won't survive it, even with medical intervention. It would be done in a hospital with cardiac monitors because the lidocaine does have heart warnings on it for anyone getting it (even with normal hearts).
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
Avatar n tn Have had rectal pain for 2 months, thought it was hemorrhoids, GI and family doctors said it wasn't and didn't know what it was from for sure. Said to see a pain management doctor thinking it is a nerve in my recturm? However, I am confused as to what the pain management dr would do since no definite diagnosis. I tried everything over the counter including lidocaine with no relief. The pain is constant and only relief is when I sleep. Worried!!!
Avatar n tn The lidocaine made the pain in my nose, right eye, and upper teeth disappear almost instantly, but also made it hard for me to breathe or swallow for almost two hours afterwards. It made me nauseous as well, and the pain came back as soon as the lidocaine-saturated cotton was removed from my sinus cavity. I've tried every treatment you listed, and nothing has helped except narcotic pain relievers.
Avatar f tn I also had an aching pain that radiated from my shoulder down my arm and a constant headache at the back of my head. I had physiotherapy for six weeks and the symptoms, for the most part, went away. Now I have new symptoms that started last week which may or may not be related. My upper shoulders and neck are in spasms but now my back is stiff and I have sciatic type pain in my left leg, cramps in my thigh and aching hips. Do you think these new symptoms are related?
Avatar f tn Thought I would report about this incase anyone was interested... I went in today. The procedure took about an hour. The only thing I experienced was some sleepiness which lasted for about an hour after. My pain level was about a 7 when I got there, but I hadn't taken my morning pain med. It was a 4 when I left, but again, I had been sitting in a comfy recliner with warm blankets, so it's hard to really tell.
Avatar f tn Why do i have to rest after a lidocaine trigger injection in my back? What are the side effects of resuming normal activity immediately?
1415174 tn?1453243103 I've used Flector patch. Minimally to no help at all for my low back pain.
Avatar f tn I did a lot of dishes today and went overboard. I fell asleep for a few hours and the pain is quite bad. I am on lidocaine for a cyst on my knee ( a small bump with a bundle of nerves) I wanted it removed, but was told it might open a new can of worms. I mean lidocaine patch. I was on fentanyl patches, ha no way for me. I fell asleep standing up. Not kidding. Hope to hear back. Your plate sure is full!!!!!
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
