For nearly two years I have had experienced severe to chronic pain in my right eye. Over the past two years, I have seen 4 doctors, including opthamologists, optometrists, and I am currently seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist. I have had a multitude of tests including 2 MRI's. Recently I have been experiencing floaters when I have the pain. The pain is becoming more frequent and more severe. At times I also experience a sharp line of pain straight through my brain.

Sometimes the surface of the eye can get too dry, the lid sticks to the surface of the eye, and when you open your eyes in the am it actually tears part of the cornea away. Hurts like hell, although there wouldn't normally be too much swelling. In any event, I'd go to an eye doc rather than a primary care type.
Hello Dear, Lidocaine blocks conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing neuronal membrane's permeability of sodium ions, which results in inhibition of depolarization and blockade of conduction. Intranasal administration of lidocaine drops requires specific and, for many patients, difficult technique. The dose is 4%solution intranasally.
(Artifical tears don't seem to work as good as they used to.) I have been using a different eye drop for a while now. (Lumigam) It has brought the pressure down nicely but itching is listed as a possible side effect. my eye doctor tells me to continue using it and told my to try Naphcon which is for eye allegy relief. It does help a little.
So with 18 i was a bit freed from the worse, it's not that they stopped or the headaches volume dropped, NO, they just got more rarely, from 16-18 i had them like every 2nd or maybe 3rd day, from 18 and on they dropped to a single event per month.

I was infected on the top left side of my head. The left eye cornea became ulcerated and the itching almost took me out emotionally. The itching has prevaled for almost seven years. I took the Attarax generic, two at retiring until six months ago. That was the only relief that I could get from itching when I awoke for a latrine call in the middle of the night.
About topical agents I never heard it usage on the face and have no idea about their side effects esp near the eyes?? ask your doctor first but they are 1-Lidocaine patch 5% benefits are moderate, and combination therapy with other drugs is often necessary plus should be applied to intact skin and to cover the most painful area...hard!. 2-Capsaicin, the active compound in hot chili pepper (will need at least 4 to 6 weeks to start the full desired effect).
Each morning I feel horrible. I feel dizzy, my eyes are blurred, (my eye exam came out great) I feel as though I am driving through a tunnel, that is how plugged my ears feel. my jaw cracks, my teeth hurt, my neck is in pain… I have gone to the doctor’s over and over and over again… only to be told I have severe drainage in my ear and post nasal drip. Can post nasal drip really cause all these symptoms? How long will I have to live with this? I feel so depressed and so alone.

I can't imagine waiting tables with a low hgb ! Running around AND carrying things...WOW! Eye drops can help with the sore eyes (I've used GenTeal when it got bad), but many times it's a result of dehydration. I upped my water intake, and it was gone. I had a rough spot about week 10-16 and again from week 30-42. In between I felt OK, with some even bordering on "good", but pretty much you have to roll with it for the greater gain.
Only then can the appropriate treatment be given. Depending on the cause, local injections with steroids and anesthesia such as lidocaine into the area have provided some people with relief. Hernia repair, tendon and nerve surgery have also helped other patients. Medications such as carbamezepine and gabapentin (again, if available in your country) have also been helpful in nerve pain.
Benzalkonium Chloride or its closely related derivatives [which cause the same reactions] are found in many cosmetics, soaps, lotions, eye treatments including the antibiotics used to treat infections in the eye, eye drops and ointments, and the anesthesia used to numb your eyes before an eye exam. Luckily, I don't use any cosmetics and haven't for the past 20 years because my skin is so hypersensitive and that is due to the Hashi's.
I was not given any numbing and I was not prepared for the amount of pain I experienced (my body shook and my eyes teared). Another lady also voiced her complaint about the pain and radiology started using a topical anesthetic and finally found they could use lidocaine without affecting the effectiveness of the procedure. (I asked why they hadn't been using a local anesthectic earlier and the answer was that's how they learned the procedure.
) test were they place a paper under your lower eye lid and measure how much tears you have. my eyes were so dry that the paper stuck to my eyeball and tore apart. It took the Optho 1/2 hour to slowly pick out all of the peices of paper. I also have the mouth full of rotten teeth from this. I have also been on Plaquenil along with Zithromax for a 3 year period ( total monthly cost for them were $1300 as they wer very high doeses).
If you can find a doctor who will prescribe 2% lidocaine to put into your sinuses (thru your nose - sounds gross - but it will stop the pain), and some A/B Otic Ear drops QUA. I can't tell you why these headaches develop or which treatment actually made mine better, but my burning headaches developed into trigeminal neuralgia (for which I had surgery at University of Pittsburg) - and - after that surgery, this type of headache disappeared for years.
No crackers, no french fries (unless DRENCHED in ketchup), gummi bears sparingly - always carry water, and have bottles of eye drops all over the place. (SIGH) I guess I should count my blessings. Thanks for responding.
By the way, have you had a baseline pretreatment eye exam by an opthamologist? It is important to have a thorough baseline eye exam by an opthamologist before starting treatment. These meds can cause serious eye problems so you need the baseline exam in case you have problems during treatment. Most don't have problems, but some do.
You are right. I will try icing it first and see if that makes a difference. It isn't so much doing the shot, its that the spot stays sore.
One of my major triggers is weather ~ when a large storm system is coming, the barometric pressure drops and I will also drop! At that point, NOTHING helps. Even IM morphine or IV Versed. Summer and fall are much better seasons for me than winter and spring when we are still getting lots of rain. Along with the Depakote I also take Percocet and use OxyFast for breakthrough pain. I also use Fiorinal for generic tension- type headaches. Just my story....there are a lot of us out there.
But my quality of life is suffering terribly. I was supposed to get a lidocaine infusion every week. my NP told me to just call and they'd put me in. Unfortunately, she neglected to write the order and now I'm not going to be able to get one until she comes back after 8/11. I am down to a fairly low dose of 15 mg. of oxycodone every 4 hours (though she told me I could take up to 9 a day.) I am not going to make it until next week.
Melatonin to help with sleep especially on shot night, doc ok'd Omega 3 supplements for brain fog, doc ok'd Tucks Genteel eye drops, mild to moderate, my eyes dried up so fast Tylenol, when the aches and pains get bad, doc ok'd; Ginger chews for nausea Vitamin water, contains zinc as well as vitamins (mostly drink water but 1 or 2 a day of these seems to help), doc ok'd Gold bond lotion, started slapping this on before tx in hopes to avoid rash, week 7 and still no rash, mostly using Keri lotio
Just yesterday, I started feeling this pulse behind (or in) my right eye. I can induce this pulse in my eye by blinking or closing and then opening it. I am a healthy male, 23 yrs old, with no family history of major heart conditions. Just wanted to share.
The Procrit / Epogen is absolutley necessary when you hemoglobin (hgb) drops below 11, but it is important to see what your hgb is before treatment. If is drops 3 points you will feel it and may need the Procrit/Epogen then. Seems like a lot of docs are really slow to prescribe and let there patients be anemic way too long. It takes a few weeks for it to take effect, I understand. The hemoglogin is the indicator of the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood.
just like lotion for the rash, lemon water rinse for the taste, eye drops, etc. tx can get REALLy tiresome. How many weeks do you have left? I am on week 21/48...
It makes it really hard to do the tests. Also, my vision was the the same in both eyes until 2005 20/20 or alittle bad and now my right eye is I think 20/70. I dont know where to go to request more testing, because my Neuro and my family doctor say they cant find pruff of anything as of now, so I have to go see a psychitrist for aniexty, stress. I have been calling my family doctor telling them about the new/ old visual problems and the nurse just tells me I have to go see the psy.
Half the stuff I tried during tx didn't help, and I was too broke to keep buying remedies. I agonized about buying ten dollar eye drops and found out afterwards that something cheaper worked just as well. Hydrogen peroxide actually burns the tissue more, I'm glad that you are going to try something else. Good luck!
Another alternative that Ive had to use is a compounded gel called KGCL, ketamine, gabapentin, clonidine, lidocaine. If you google "neuroderm topical" it shows some of the different combinations that can be compounded depending on your needs. They are all non-addictive, less drug on drug interactions and can be applied directly to the source of your pain.
