Avatar f tn Do they kinda numb the area before the epidural ? Cause I'm nervous but then I'm not . I'm just not a big fan of needles I flinch no matter what .
Avatar f tn I'm 2 months... Any experienced moms had the epidural shot ? Could y'all tell me how it went because I'm sooooo nervous and hope to God I don't end up jumping or moving at all !
Avatar f tn Lidocaine is a numbing medication. It's what they use prior to the epidural injections to numb the area before injecting the steroid.
Avatar f tn I have been in pain since 2003 due to a car accident. Had one neck surgery in 2004 and I am having problems with another disk. This past year and half it has been getting worse. My headaches are bad and have been getting dizzy a lot and the pain in the neck, shoulder and down arm and hand. My oxycodone 10mg and morphine 15 mg are not working.
405614 tn?1329144114 I had a right-sided lumbar epidural at levels L3-4 and L4-5 on Friday afternoon. By Friday evening, my whole right leg from the waist down was filled with shooting pains (after the numbing part of the injections wore off). It felt like my leg was glowing. I took and extra 50 mg. of Lyrica, and extra Vicodin 5/500, 5 mg. of Ambien, and was still only able to sleep 3 or 4 broken hours.
Avatar f tn Last time I also had IV meds before I could get epidural, they lessened pain a lot but epidural made it all go away. I was able to relax and sleep and let my body take over, I was very tense before and none of the relaxation techniques I learned and practiced worked. Talk with your doc about options if you don't want natural.
Avatar f tn Period cramps times 100 are contractions. They numb you before they stick the epidural in. For me the epidural didn't work both times. I felt it all through my vagina. Ouchies!
Avatar f tn t get back to you sooner. Epidural steroid injections help with pinched nerves. There are also transforaminals, caudal injections and facet nerve injections. All of these injections are done using some kind of steroid and lidocaine. The steroid helps calm the nerves and reduces pain after usually about 4-6 days. The lidocaine usually reduces pain immediately and for about the following 4 hours. Another noninvasive procedure is a Percuteanous disc decompression.
Avatar n tn I didnt have an epidural and i got 6 stitches when i tore, only because she came out facing up instead of facing the ground.. I really didn't feel anything while she was doing it. The only pain i felt was afterwards when using the bathroom and cleaning it. After a few days it goes away. They heal up on their own too. I think mine healed after 1 week and a half. Its not that bad. If you push at the right times and not too hard/fast i dont think you should tear. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I hate needles and the only thing you feel pressure with is the lidocaine they use before! Then for my epidural at least it was in an IV drip that they didn't take out until after my son was born(: there is negatives and positives for the effects of the epidural but it can also be a traumatic experience if you can't handle your contractions! If you have a high pain tolerance than natural may be more easier for you!
Avatar f tn I was given stadol around midnight and an epidural at 4 am. She had to redo the epidural after she hit a vein which was pretty awful. I remained 3 cm until 10 am the next morning. At noon I dilated to a 4-5 cm. At 2 pm I was at 7 cm and it took me until 4 pm to get to 10 cm. I started pushing at 5 pm and beautiful baby girl was born 51 minutes later weighing 8 lbs 7 oz and 21 inches long.
Avatar f tn Besides an epidural, what else can they give you for pain? My first birth the epidural did not work at all so I'm not going to bother getting it again. Any help is appreciated!
Avatar f tn I tore with my first son. I didn't have an epidural with all 4 of my kids. I was to scared of the needle. The Dr numbed me with lidocaine and then stitched the two tears I had. I didn't feel it when I tore. If u don't have an epidural the tearing is the last thing that's going to be on your mind.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a thoracic facet block for next Friday. Are steriods used for this procedure? And if they are, can they substitute the steriod with a non- steriod medication? I had an epidural Sept. 2007 and I gained weight and It didn't work, I am not even sure I will go through with procedure now.
5787844 tn?1376078984 So I'm looking for opinions/stories from experienced mamas.. I'm 30 weeks pregnant with #3. I had visions of a drug free birth with my first...I labored for 31 1/2 hrs...drug free. Pushed for 4 hours! Ended up needing cesarean. I was heartbroken. I felt like I had gotten no rest and had tired myself out...literally falling asleep between contractions! So with my 2nd I was so determined for V.B.A.C that I had something that wasn't an epidural but it did go in my back.
1484441 tn?1288123103 So, my second son was born on October 3rd. He wasn't due until the 14th but came early, just like my first. I recently turned 34 and have an 11 yr. old son. I remarried a few years ago and in January we decided not to use any protection because I didn't think I'd get pregnant so easily. Although, apparently I'm very fertile because it happened just as easily the first time, too. I was in labor with my oldest for only about 5 hours.
Avatar f tn I'm going to see how it goes if i can't handle the pain the epidural it is. When i had my daughter almost 7 years ago the epidural didn't work so i felt everything so if i want to get it this time i hope it takes.
Avatar f tn I felt it! It was traumatizing I could feel the fish hook needle and the string! I got an epidural the second time and was numb so it didn't matter!
10947 tn?1281404252 This all happened 4 days after giving birth via csection in which I received an epidural anesthesia. I was given lidocaine for the epi and my body still wasn't numb so they kept injecting more! *also I've been having tingling in my lips a metalic taste in my mouth and severe dizziness. I was seen in 2different ers and they both said its not cardiac related even though my h.r was 45bpm .. Is it possible that the epidural is causing autonomic dysfunction?
4294412 tn?1353197830 You have to more specific as to the type of pain. Chronic pain is often due to glial cell inflammation, which doesn't respond to opiates. New treatments being studied to eliminate such pain without opiates include third generation tetracyclines. Spinal pain secondary to disc compression can sometimes be eliminated with presdcription transdermal lidocaine patches worn for no longer than twelve hours a day or an electric TENS device.
4545793 tn?1394592544 I have a high pain tolerance and I know I can make it through labor without the epidural bc many women have but idk im a lil afraid I guess and like the option of having an epidural but I guess time will only tell..but ladies what are your pros and cons on this subject ??

Has anyone here used it before? And did it help? I tried to use it last night but it wouldnt stick to my neck.
