Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal symptoms diarrhea

lexapro

Avatar n tn Now, after the 4th week, and a lot of improvement, I am having diarrhea and headache and flu like symptoms. Could these symptoms be related to withdrawal at this later date? How long does withdrawal take? When should I expect to feel total relief?
Avatar f tn The drug left your body the next day. All ssris other than Prozac leave the body pretty quickly. Any left is too little to do anything. That's first. Second, these drugs don't start to work for most people until 4-6 weeks, but side effects start right away. If you were having panic attacks before taking Lexapro, you shouldn't have expected it to work so soon.
1288270 tn?1301287612 This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
Avatar f tn well, benzo withdrawal lasts quite a few weeks for some people.....but i would be concerned that it isn't entirely withdrawal related. be sure you mention this to your doctor and see what they think. with the surgery you had and everything, it's best not to just assume it to be withdrawal. your dose of clonazepam is low if you meant 0.25mg's...the withdrawal probably wouldn't last long or be too severe. perhaps insomnia for a week or 2 and heightened anxiety.
Avatar m tn Yes that is the kind of symptoms and I would expect from the abrupt withdrawal of this medication. There are usually flu-like symptoms and sweating is one of them so don't be surprised if you have the others also. It is usually unwise to stop these medications abruptly but you can get away with it with this medication but will not get away with it if you try to stop Lexapro abruptly.
Avatar n tn Lexapro can be one of the more difficult SSRI meds when it comes to withdrawl. Not sure why your doc said that you shouldn't be having withdrawl symptoms after only two weeks off Lex. Even with a Very slow taper off method, you can expect to have withdrawl symptoms for at least 6 to 8 weeks after complete discontinuation. Sometimes even longer depending on the person. Yes, they can be nasty.
Avatar m tn The transition was really difficult, but the withdrawal symptoms have gone away. Today the psychiatrist said to stop the escitalopram entirely and just take 10mg of Prozac each day. I am hopeful the Prozac will help her feel more energetic and motivated to do things and most importantly get her to stop thinking about suicide.
Avatar m tn Introduction to Lexapro: Lexapro, the brand name for escitalopram, is a widely prescribed medication known for its effectiveness in managing mood disorders. This antidepressant, belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class, offers several benefits to those struggling with conditions like major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. https://buylexaproonlinepharmacy.weebly.
Avatar f tn It may be a withdrawal symptom. Are you feeling alright physically otherwise? I'm wondering if you might be getting chest cold.
Avatar n tn I had the same withdrawal it was awful. I have been told that going off of effexor has the 2 worst side effects for this type of med. I really want to get off of them completely. I was tapering off and had to go back up on the dose til i felt better than took lower dose every other day than every 2 days. and so on. that helped. But i want to decrease again and i am nervouse about having the same bad reaction. wish they would tell you this before starting you on the meds to begin with.
Avatar m tn No, you should never stop taking an antidepressant abruptly. Antidepressants often cause a "discontinuation syndrome", even when tapered properly. The symptoms of the syndrome (also called "withdrawal" by many) can and likely will be much worse if you don't taper. Work with your doctor to devise a proper taper plan. What were you prescribed the Lexapro for? Depression? Anxiety? Have you addressed the original issue? Are your symptoms well managed?
Avatar f tn The first couple years of taking Lexapro I had no side effects. For the last year +, I have had abdominal pain, gas, heartburn & diarrhea almost daily. I have asked my Dr. 3xs if it could be from the Lexapro, but he keeps telling me no. I have a decent diet ~I eat lots of fruit & salad & drink nothing but water. My Dr. just want to give me more med's for the symptoms (prilosec, etc). I take Pepcid and GasX almost every day.
777975 tn?1236334919 You can continue with the wellbutrin and that should take care your withdrawal symptoms. If you just continue as you are or you may have the withdrawal symptoms for another week or 10 days.
Avatar f tn I am taking Prozac, and I have read some articles saying that some doctors prescribe prozac for a month to help decrease the withdrawal symptoms from Lexapro, and then get off the prozac. I guess the Prozac doesn't seem to have such bad withdrawal effects. When I quit Lexapro cold turkey.. all I had were brain zaps and dizziness. When I quit the Prozac, i had occasional brainzaps, but that is all.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Lexapro usually occurs when patients stop the medication suddenly. If your plan is to stop lexapro, your doctor will wean you off of it slowly so that you can minimize any withdrawal symptoms you may experience. However seizing is not a common withdrawal symptom when stopping Lexapro. I would discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your doctor and be clear. He/she will be able to help and work with you.
Avatar m tn This is a tricky question because you're doing 2 changes at the same time. It becomes difficult then to determine which drug causes the problems. I can speak from experience on the xanax tapering, as i've been doing it now for months. I have found that my most difficult days were on days 3 - 4 ,then around 7 - 8 days, then again, around days 12, 13 , even 14. Many of the symptoms you described are part of xanax withdrawal...but I can't speak for diarrhea & sleepy - esp.
Avatar f tn Although I'm not a physician, I do know from experience about Lexapro withdrawal -- here is what I found to be HIGHLY effective: 5-HTP / St. John's Wort / B-Complex supplements. I PROMISE YOU, although it will take time, YOU WILL GET BETTER. Looking back, it seems like it took a month or more to get over the majority of the symptoms -- some residual symptoms even longer. BUT HANG IN THERE!!!!
Avatar m tn Hi guys. I started taking Lexapro for my depression/generalized anxiety disorder about two years ago. For the first year, I took the drug every day as prescribed by the doctor. I didn't get any side effects which I thought was great. The drug wasn't of much help, though. A year ago, I decided to stop taking Lexapro on my own. I tried quitting it cold turkey but I wasn't able to follow through with it because of the withdrawal effects.
Avatar n tn I've been withdrawing from Lexapro as well, at least I think that is what it is. I was on 10mg every day for a year or so, then went down to five for a couple months, then to 2.5 every day for about 3 weeks, stopped that, then started having symptoms of dizziness, headaches, "brain zaps", irritability, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity to noise and light. I started taking 2.5mg again, every other day for about two weeks. I stopped taking it 3 days ago, severe symptoms again.
