Lexapro withdrawal prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal prozac

lexapro

1288270 tn?1301287612 This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
Avatar n tn She thinks this will help with the withdrawals. I am afraid to try Prozac. I have read so much about Lexapro withdrawal. Some say that the symptoms could last over a year. I think you need to contact your doctor and see what he/she says. Good luck and remember you have company through this awful process.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
Avatar f tn I was told to quit lexapro 20mg cold turkey and start 20mg of prozac the next day, which i did. The first 6 days I felt great then the 7th day hit and began having waves of dizziness, or feelings like my brain was shaking and having a hard time focusing with my eyes. I am now 4 weeks out from switching and continue to have intermittent periods of this weird "dizzy" feeling. Am I having withdrawal issues from the lexapro and how long will it last??
Avatar n tn My son wanted to get off antidepressants so the doctor suggested he go on prozac to counteract the wd from effexor.....(75mg) prozacs half life is 5 weeks , while effexors is less than 24 hours...so it's really hard to go off it especially if you have been on it for a while...even if they lower the dose to wean you it's pretty bad....withdrawal is awful. He's never been on Lexapro so I can't tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal.
Avatar m tn My daughter is transitioning from lexapro to prozac. She suffers from clinical depression...diagnosed over 1.5 years ago. She seems worse than ever and will barely get out of bed, listless comes to mind. Is this to be expected?
Avatar f tn I am going through awful lexapro withdrawals. One doctor wants me to try prozac-10 mg another doctor wants me to try wellburtin-150mg. I thought I could get through the withdrawals without any help, but no way. I am about to go crazy. What do I do?
Avatar f tn At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something. Another problem I'm realizing these drugs caused has been apathy, which was different from my depression.
Avatar m tn Now, I will obviously give it some time since these could just be the withdrawal symptoms of the Lexapro but I of course I am wondering if the Lexapro was helping me and not just making me feel dead in the head. It is so hard to tell what works with these drugs and it is very frustrating. So, anybody out there that is just on a benzo and doing well? Thanks.
433485 tn?1321813390 We have tried different drugs and I am now on Lamictal, Seraquel, Klonopin and Prozac ( we just titrated the Lexapro to add the Prozac). I thought I would be feeling better by now. I started on 20 mg. Prozac and was just ramped up to 40 mg, last week. I read on here about horrible withdrawal symptoms. By the way, I also am in therapy. Anyway, I am wondering if all of this is the withdrawal from the different drugs.
Avatar f tn Although I'm not a physician, I do know from experience about Lexapro withdrawal -- here is what I found to be HIGHLY effective: 5-HTP / St. John's Wort / B-Complex supplements. I PROMISE YOU, although it will take time, YOU WILL GET BETTER. Looking back, it seems like it took a month or more to get over the majority of the symptoms -- some residual symptoms even longer. BUT HANG IN THERE!!!!
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Lexapro, I took it on Wednesday (3 days ago) and in the afternoon had panic. It scared me and so I didn't take another. Three days later I feel weird, no emotions, cold, diarrhea, restless legs. How long will this take to get out of my body?
Avatar m tn What drug has helped you? I am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety and Prozac for depression. I would like to cut the Klonopin or at least cut down (now taking 1 mg/day). The Prozac isn't helping my depression at all and I have given it months to work. I have heard good things about Lexapro from many people - that it works for anxiety & depression. My family doctor wants me to take Paxil.
Avatar m tn I have been about 2 months clean from strong opiates (oxy and heroin) and about the same time off of prozac which i have been taking for 10 yrs. I have been experiencing bad anxiety and worry lately, the same as when i first came off opiates months ago. Could it be the lack of prozac or just the paws symptoms? I dont want to hop back on the prozac when it could just be the opiate withdrawl. I quit prozac because i dont want to rely on medication to be happy for the rest of my life.
Avatar n tn I have however been reading alot about withdrawal because my daughter is weaning off an AD (Lexapro). You might try supplements such as Omega 3 fish oil, magnesium and Vit C.
475307 tn?1209791613 My mom thinks that my heart palpitations are due to cymbalta (which I am taking for anxiety), which I just started taking a few days ago. Before that, I took lexapro for over two years. I've only been on cymbalta for 10 days and I skipped yesterday because my mom insists that's what's causing my chest pains and heart palpitations. I cried myself to sleep last night and I can't stop crying right now but I have no reason to at all.
7970489 tn?1395885877 Sorry for the delay in response. I started on Prozac 10 mg last week. The Lexapro made me feel ok but made my heart flutter every now and again, but i noticed it still did it every so often after i got off anyways. My doctor told me it was from anxiety, my mother and brother both told me it happens to them sometimes too.I also have MS which may be a factor as well.
1330182 tn?1279815900 Like cj29, I sympathize with your distress. I didn't have any problem discontinuing Prozac, but was taking a small dose of clonazapam at the same time, which may have helped. It is darn hard to figure out if anxiety and digestive issues are caused by the anxiety disorder or withdrawal from Prozac. My money is on the disorder. Can't believe hormone issues are the culprit. Always good to rule out physical sources of discomfort.
Avatar f tn Hi I just joined this group and read your post. Wanted to tell you about my experience with lexapro. Was on 10mg for three years. Weaned off slowly by myself, the doc said I would have to take it for the rest of my life and I did not agree. Took me 3 months then off, I went through holy hell for a little better than a year after the last dose. I had severe insomia, anxiety, sweats, shaking etc. I guess it would be the ssri syndome.
Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
1348686 tn?1310654243 So the dr prescribed me prozac for my anxiety after we found out I am allergic to lexapro. Can anyone tell me if they have had any luck with prozac. I am disappointed about the lexapro because even though I was only on it for 3 weeks it was really helping me. I just hate starting new meds....
Avatar f tn Oh, there are LOTS and LOTS of positive stories out there...you don't read about them as much in a place like this, because people usually are seeking help after having a BAD experience (like you did unfortunately). Personally, I think AD's are the best thing since sliced bread! On several occasions, they allowed me to be "normal" again, while I worked on my problems with a therapist due to having panic disorder. I'm not going to say I had a flawless experience...
404138 tn?1308941656 If you do go off of lexapro do it very slowly and give your body time to withdrawal, coming of fast can make you feel more withdrawal feelings, call your dr.
Avatar f tn t properly taper down on the Lexapro and wellbutrin, you could be suffering withdrawal effects. And it could be side effects of Prozac. As well as just more fun from your underlying anxiety. Too much at one time makes it hard for us to figure out what's causing what.
Avatar m tn Oh, and by the way, if you only have depression and not anxiety, the first ssri you want to try is Prozac, not Lexapro -- fist, Lexapro isn't off patent, so it's pretty expensive, and second, Prozac tends to be easier to quit since it stays longer in the body.
Avatar m tn I am three weeks into the process of changing meds from Lexapro to Prozac. I went from 20mg of Lexapro to zero, as of yesterday. I have been on this dosage for 4 years. I began Prozac two weeks ago. My question is this....If Lexapro is now at zero, and my Prozac (20mg) has not taken effect, yet, am I completely defenseless at this point regarding panic/anxiety? I do take Ativan when I have my back against the wall, but I don't want to take too much of that stuff.
Avatar n tn First of all, is he in therapy? The meds won't cure him, they just treat symptoms. Second, you say he is suffering depression. Does he also suffer anxiety? I ask because some pure antidepressants are stimulating and can cause anxiety. And did he wean off Lexapro, or quit cold turkey and to immediately to Paxil? He could be suffering Lexapro withdrawal if he did, and Paxil won't necessarily do anything about that.
