Lexapro withdrawal mania

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal mania

lexapro

Avatar f tn Lexapro triggered mania in me, and the withdrawal from it was awful... ugh, I shudder to remember it. I was forced to stop it cold turkey while hospitalized, and it was so uncomfortable that I pushed hard to be discharged so I could go home and take my leftover pills to make it stop. Very, very bad idea, I know, haha. But anyway, what works for one person may not work for another, and what triggers mania in one person may not do the same in another.
574118 tn?1305135284 is celexa better than lexapro or worse I mean generally speaking because this is patient dependent. But the IMPORTANT question: can one switch over from lexapro to celexa easily I mean directly or you wean off first by titrating down. But how, as I am taking the smallest dose already.! i.e. is there any difficulty, withdrawal symptoms etc.. and so forth. Remember both are the products of the same company.
Avatar n tn BUT I DO KNOW I FEEL REAL ANXIETY TODAY AND I WENT ON IT BECAUSE I WAS HAVING A REACTION TO LEXAPRO THAT I WAS ON 1 WEEK, NOW I AM STUCK ON THIS HORRIBLE DRUG. THE LEXAPRO GAVE ME HORRIBLE ANXIETY AND A MANIA FEELING, NOW THIS HORRIBLE ANXIETY IS BACK .
Avatar f tn I took Lexapro for 3 years and LOVED it. It is one of the "cleanest" anti-depressants around, meaning it has fewer side effect and is one of the safest to take. It worked wonders for me but I relapsed into a bad depression in October of 2007 while on them. I needed a back up to Lexapro but most people dont. Don't fret. Lexapro is a good, clean, dependable medication that will hopefully help you to feel better.
1926604 tn?1322961405 i have been on lexapro for over a month and have been upped to 20mgs a week or 2 ago. It is not helping. i don't want to clean. I don't want to cook. food doesn't even sound good. i am loosing weight. i am cold all the time. i was thinking about mentioning wellbutrin to my doctor. Any advice?
Avatar f tn I have withdrawn from all my medications because they made me lazy and basically I had no motivation. 950277 tn?1247274551 celexa generic citalopram and brand name cipram in the the eastern countries is produced by the same Danish company which produces cipralex/lexapro/escitalopram. In different forums one finds many pts using it. it's weaker than lexapro, exactly half its therapeutic dose in maximum and minimum. BP pts take wellbutrin, celexa, lexapro in the majority of the cases. A few take seroxat/paxil to go with lamictal.
Avatar f tn This could go on for a while as long as he has the ability to feed that mania. Doing spontaneous things and dangerous or angry things feeds mania. Objiously it would be good to get him into a treatment center but I guess without insurance that would be hard to do.Yes, he will crash into depression and as serious as his mania seems the depression would be very bad.
Avatar n tn My question is, my psychiatrist recently increased my dosage of Lexapro from 20 mg to 30 mg because I was feeling weepy for a few weeks. I asked her if the Lexapro could just stop working. Or, could antidepressants stop working after time? She said that’s not likely. However, she said that this can happen for some people with a type of bipolar disorder, who also need a mood stabilizer. I asked her if this sounded like me, and she said no.
Avatar f tn I am currently on Lamictal 100mg. My pdoc put me on lexapro as well cause I had hit an all time low. She said lexapro takes less time to work. I already feel less depressed, not completely better but it takes time I know. Anyone have any experience with this drug? Good, bad? Anything?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately my experience with paxil/seroxat/paroxetine was really bad. It took quite a while for withdrawal. The reason i tried it, is that i read that it goes well with lamictal. my pdoc was a fool i suppose, i tried many pdocs at the time, and since i tried lexapro/escitalopram/cipralex and drove me manic after 2 months I switched to paxil to realise that it's stronger. they say the strongest is effexor. I suppose all SSRI aren't suitable for BP.
574118 tn?1305135284 I have also met people on here who take Zoloft,Celexa, and Lexapro. I know the ones on Lexapro have had great success. Hope that helps.
Avatar n tn 2 days ago my psychiatrist advised me to change my Lexapro 20mg to Celexa 20mg. Is it normal for a patient to switch overnight from Lexapro to Celexa like this? She advised me to just stop the Lexapro. I realize that they are very similar in makeup but i'm just worried that i will get too depressed in the meantime.
460948 tn?1232302122 Discontinuing Lexapro is harder than other SSRIs and has been known to cause mania in bi polar patients when on Lexapro and while discontinuing its use. Just remember that once you start Lexapro, give it at least 4-6 weeks and when discontinuing it, let your doctor know because he/she can advise you on how to discontinue the use of it over a period of time. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn ” It is important to develop a specific tapering schedule with your health care provider to minimize Lexapro withdrawl symptoms. Avatar f tn That is in addition to the extreme insomnia. So i went back to the doc and he has changed me from prozac to lexapro, and added remeron for sleep. He said i could start the lexapro in the morning, and i assume i can take the remeron tonight if i want, but im hesitant to take it. Any advice?
3038261 tn?1340919409 I recently stopped taking venaflaxine ("Effexor") because it has been making my mania symptoms worse. As part of the withdrawal, I've been experiencing something I've come to find is known as "brain shivers". I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before, and if so, has any advice on how to cope.
Avatar f tn I recently weaned myself off of lexapro after using it for about 8 years. Everything has gone weexcept for one very troubling problem that continues some 3 weeks since I last took my last small dose of lexapro. Nearly every night as I prepare to go to bed I start to get warm and then I start getting the shakes. I get under the covers and try to get warm.. Once I have warmed with in afew hours of sleep I am awoken from the results of night sweats, which have left my sheets and pillows wet.
Avatar m tn My bf is withdrawing from Wellbutrin and has been off it for about a month and he has been experiencing a number of side effects to include severe pain, muscle atrophy, terror nightmares, depression anger and mania and more.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Lexapro usually occurs when patients stop the medication suddenly. If your plan is to stop lexapro, your doctor will wean you off of it slowly so that you can minimize any withdrawal symptoms you may experience. However seizing is not a common withdrawal symptom when stopping Lexapro. I would discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your doctor and be clear. He/she will be able to help and work with you.
Avatar n tn Since then, I have had a sinus infection, vomiting, dirrehea, extreme anger and a little mania. I was taking 100mg I am afraid to get back on it because I finally can feel emotions again. I was diagnosed with post postpartum depression after the birth of my second child. Can all these side effects be related to stopping the drug? Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Hi gp. I hate to break this to you. But, for one, Lexapro is a SSRI. SSRI's can cause mania in a bi polar person. My doc has just recently told me this. She told me they use it sometimes to check and see if you become manic to diagnose bi polar. It looks like extreme jitters and anxiety and constant energy and insomnia when you are on it and manic.

Avatar f tn I was on Lexapro for a little over a year. I was only taking 5mg a day. Since I lost my health insurance I slowing got off taking the medication because I couldn't afford it. It's been about two weeks since I took my last pill and I'm feeling odd. Having strange symptoms. I'm very mean at times and the newest thing happened two days ago, I get this strange pain that goes from one temple up to the top of my head and over to my other temple. It last maybe 5 seconds.
1288270 tn?1301287612 This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
