Lexapro with amitriptyline

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro with amitriptyline

lexapro

I was on Amitriptyline-150mg and Topamax 100mg for at least a year for headaches. Within the last three months I was put on Lexapro 10mg and Allerx PE also for my headaches. My headaches are beginning to become under control with steroid injections and I am about to have sinus surgery. My concern is that in the past year I have gained 35lbs. I am a very active person who works out and also watches what I eat. I don't know what to do.
Hey all. I was recently prescribed Amitriptyline for help me sleep at night but I wanted some more information about it. I know I can research online but I get better answers from all of you. You make the answers make sense. LOL! I want to know if this is an addictive medication? I was give 50mg, is that high? It was prescribed to help me sleep and also for pain control. If I take it during the day will it make me so tired I cannot function without going to sleep???
When I stopped for 6 weeks the fatigue let up so I now it is a lasting side effect (for me). I am now wondering if I should stick with Lexapro, deal with the fatigue (which is hard to deal with) & see about adding in a benzo to offset break through anxiety. I was hoping to avoid benzos. I must add, Lexapro has done wonders for my depression! The main start up side effect for me was migraines but they got better.
I am currently taking lexapro (15mg), and I too get periods of being very tired. I have not taking amitriptyline, but I know that this is an antidepressant that can be very sedating (it is often used as a sleep aid). What does of each meds are you taking? Amitriptyline is also used to treat migraine headaches, so it seems to be helping you in that regard. Have you spoken to your doc about the tiredness? He/she may be able to adjust your dosage.
I have been taking lexapro and wellbutrin XL for a few years. I didn't seem to gain weight. About a year ago I was put on elavil to help with IBS. I have gained a lot of weight in the last year. I don't have a scale so I don't know how many pounds, but, I have gone from about a 33 waist pant size to a 36 inch elastic waist being too small. I understand that elavil can cause weight gain. Would the lexapro also be adding to this?
Go easy on the klonopin but it will help with anxiety. The amitriptyline won't do you any good. It's a daily med and also an antidepressant that needs to be taken for awhile to be effective. Flush the tramadol. It won't help your efforts. It's an opiate with an AD and you don't need that. You will not die from quitting. You'll feel awful(like a bad flu) for a few days. That's it. You can do it!! Read about The Thomas Recipe in the health pages, upper right of this page.
My appetite didn't seem to decrease but maybe because of the small dose. I had a problem with balance and dizziness while on the med to the point that I could no longer that the medicine. My balance would get so bad that it was hard to be in a sitting position let along walking. Now I take Atenolol to control migranes it seems to work better than the tompamax.
Now here's the clever bit because I don't metabolise antidepressants as well because of my gene variant as I took a CYP2D6 dependent anti depressant (in my case it was Endep or amitriptyline) it built up with a higher concentration in my blood stream to the point where I was at much higher risk of side effects. Which for me (poor ba$tard) was to be launched into hypomania for four months.
Hi, does anyone know i you can take Amitriptyline and Sertraline at the same time. I have been taking Amitriptyline for a while for depression and pain but 6 weeks ago I suffered a stroke and my depression is worse so was given Sertraline along with the other.
I went to the doctor today for a follow up on how I was doing with the Lexapro that I started on Monday. I told her that I take the Lexapro at night because it makes me tired. I told her that I had been experiencing the nausea, dizzy, but most of that is gone now, but I'm still having anxiety a little more frequently and I'm still not having an appetite. My anxiety was always bad in the mornings, that has not changed, but I'm noticing it more all through out the day.
My son has a spinal cord injury and has partial paralysis. He was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am concerned as he was taking many drugs before this diagnosis and now he is on 15 routine drugs. I fear that taking these drugs will cause a problem and or they drugs are responsible for the new diagnosis. I expressed my concern to Hospital Administration but they do not seem concerned. Can you recommend a way to get an impartial review of medications.
B6 I take 2 B6 a day to help with anxiety. Buspar This is supposed to help with anxiety, but I don't know if really does or not. Carafate I am prescribed 4 of these a day to handle my stomach ulcers. The ulcers are almost gone thanks to this medication! Enablex This med makes it so that I can go without needing to pee every fifteen minutes. Iron Supplement This is for anemia. Lexapro This is my main anti-depressant for bipolar disorder. Nexium This helps my acid reflux and ulcers.
It is newer than amiltriptyline with less-side effects. It is so new that some neurologist don't know about it. What is the catch? The high price.
This did not turn me into a zombie at all, in fact probably the opposite. Lexapro works with seratonin which is a chemical in your brain. Its also known as the "happy" chemical cause it works with your feelings of happiness. Lexapro has great success and is not a real aggressive drug meaning that its not really addictive and side effects do occur, but they usually go away within a week or so. Currently, I am taking Pristiq. Pristiq is my miracle drug.
I feel confused at times and clear at times. It may go with my mood. I use to be the best speller and can't think of how to spell simple words. I get frustrated. I'm on depakote, Lamictal 100mg, Lexapro, and amitriptyline for pain from my fibromyalgia.
Hi could someone who has experienced this please help! I have been living with severe anxiety and depression along with depersonalization for the last 6 months. I just started cymbalta 60mg. Was wondering if anyone thinks this might help with the anxiety and depersonalization feelings?
my dr started me on 2 mgs abilify along with my 30 mgs of lexapro. within a few days the depression began to fade. i did have to make myself get out of bed to go exercise, eat. clean the house. about a week later i was on the mend. i don't have a suport group either. though my husband knows about my depression and anxiety and is very supportive . i try to keep my depression to myself. i just tell family and friends i don't feel well. i do a lot of self talk too.
I'm a 48 yr. old female with long history of chronic migraine. My migraines have been much worse in last 2 1/2 yrs. I had MRI and Cat Scan showing normal results. I'm being treated at a Headache center and am on a new medication called "Methysergide" as well as Amitriptyline and Lexapro. My primary care doctor who treats me for migraine abort. has recommended Biofeedback/Neurofeedback.
Nortriptyline is better tolerated, since it is the active metabolite of amitriptyline. Until amitriptyline gets metabolized, it circulates throughout the body, potentially causing numerous side effects. Nortriptyline is not without side effects, but its side effects are generally milder. Other drugs that may be considered include Neurontin, Lyrica, Effexor, Lexapro, Cymbalta, and Keppra are worth considering.
I was on lexapro at one time and diddn't have the anxiety that went along with the Cymbalta. It took some time for the Cymbalta to work and will stay with it at this time.
Can you drink on Lexapro? I do mean DRINKING!! Just being honest. When you go out with your friends and you dont come until 4 am kind or drinking.I've done it and have not noticed anything weird. I understand that does not mean its ok.
Hello Everyone, I have a quick question, as I posted previous, I have been on combo treatment since July 11, The Gastro doctor that started me on my treatment, was no help at all(he is officially fired....lol), so I went to another doctor yesterday, he is wonderful, helped me with everything, gave me prescriptions for sleep/anxiety, and explained so much to me, he is now my new doctor :)..
I am trying to concieve and I'm presently not on any medications, however I used to take Lexapro and it works the best for me. I feel as though I'm in great need to be on it again but I am aware that the drug falls under a catagory C (to not take when pregnant) I dont want to put myself at harm so I need to know what anti- depresent to take that would not cause any birth defects or harm to the unborn child.
My anxiety kicked off about a month ago before my check up with my primary, but it went really nuts this time for some reason. I take Ativan .25-.50 Ativan when anxiety is bad. Try hard not to take it every day. Even with that, I am having trouble staying asleep. I fall asleep ok, then wake up at random times all anxious. Once my anxiety starts I get all jittery & its downhill from there. . .Do any of you have any recommendations for what to do when this happens?
Google sleep paralysis - it should sound somewhere very close to what you are dealing with. I had these and I have just been diagnosed with epilepsy too. Neuro said that sometimes, these are a precursor to neuro problems and sometimes, not. Hope this helps!
They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two. It's like a jabbing pain over my right eye that quickly becomes like a vise around my head, like my brain is swelling and my head can't contain it. I can feel my blood throb in my head and it will feel like needles or a jackhammer to my head, causing me to be immobile, because if I move or even breathe, it will hurt terribly.
You should discuss it with your dr. I did take lexapro fro a while but have since stopped and I only take xanax occasionally for anxiety attacks. Don't hesitate to talk with your dr and get something to ease you through your depression.
) Regarding your experience with the Lexapro. I wanted to tell you that I also experienced palpitations with the desipramine. Also, insomnia and something strange; I would be trying to go to sleep and all of a sudden experience chills. I even checked my temp, but was not running a fever. I also forgot to tell you that before the desipramine, he had me on Librax. I HATED Librax! It also caused insomnia, ANXIETY (which, hello, isn't that part of the problem???
I never was a good sleeper to begin with and with them at least I make sure to get a couple of hours in. You know better than anybody Merry you just gotta do what you gotta do even if it's not any fun. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time of it.
