I take Lexapro and couldn't lose weight, but was assured that it wasn't the Lexapro, even though I watched what I ate and walked 6 miles a day. I changed what I did eat, and lost 50 pounds and have kept it off for 2 years while still on Lexapro. It may not be the amount you're eating but the foods you're eating. I went to healthier foods. You're on a low dose, so I doubt that it's the Lexapro.

My doctor told me it was the reason for my weight gain and changed me to Wellbutrin XL (300 mg) I made the transition about 18 months ago and have never felt as calm and happy as when I took Lexapro. I have not had any side-effects from it and no weight gain. Lexapro is not only an anti-depressant but also has a component in it that helps with anxiety. I have found it to be a good drug and when I wanted to go off ot it, it was easy. I think you will do just fine. It does have the least side-effects it seems that alot of other anti-depressants.

I just started lexapro and dr told me to take mild Xanax with it at bed time the first night I had terrible nightmares. I don't know what to do. I'm on 5 ml gram lexapro and .25 Xanax.

I hesitated to reply because it's complicated. My daughter has been on Lexapro since Nov 07 though is tapering and is almost off. She was on 10mg though her pdoc almost had her to go to 15mg but she never did. I say complicated because in her case yes I did feel that there were personality changes but I have to allow for why she was on it too.

I am trying to find a good medication that does NOT cause weight gain. Please do not tell me SSRI do not cause weight gain. I was on Zoloft for many years & it caused weight gain. Everytime I asked my doctor if it could be the medicine he said "No", so I tried & tried to get the 30 lbs off I had put on from it. I ate a good diet & worked out all the time.. NOTHING. I searched online & found out that many people had this complaint.

I tried Wellbutrin for 2 weeks because I gained weight while on Lexapro originally. Wellbutrin messed me way up with anxiety. Then I went back to 10mg of Lexapro for 2 weeks and then 20mg of lexapro for now 2.5 weeks. The wellbutrin I had for about 3 months as the dr was going to switch me per my request but that was the time I decided to wean myself off all together. So since I had the prescription I started taking it first. Lexapro was what worked for 8 years.

I have had symptoms of thinning hair, vision changes, a feeling of always being tired and hardly ever feeling I had enough sleep, weight gain, B12 definiency, hives that affect my arms, hands, legs, neck and face when I'm out in cold weather such as 50 degrees or less. I also have recently developed sleep apnea due to my weight and possibly a loss of muscle tone from the hypothyroidism I believe I have.

My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. Thanks Gabrielle, it's definitely a catch 22 be depressed and skinny or go off the pill to see which one is the cause? I've had the dr experiment by taking me off the pill for a few months but no changes so I I'm thinking for my weight gain the lexapro is the cause! Confusing! Well I hope you get there in the end it's a difficult journey and heartbreaking when your medication is overruling your good diet and exercise so you get nowhere!

I am wondering how people gain weight..... is it that your metabolism changes, or is your appetite stronger? I will not tolerate gaining a bunch of weight and I just want to know what to watch for. I have always been able to eat what I want when I want it, do I have to be more careful now or will I gain regardless of what I eat?

In my experience Lexapro can make you gain weight that is what my said when he put me on Lexapro. However I was suffering form an eating disorder so I needed to put on weight. My doctor didn't want to put me on any medication that would make me gain weight because I would probably stop taking it and it would not aid in my recovery.

Hi everyone! I was recently prescribed Lexapro and Lamictal. I was just wondering if there was anyone who has taken Lexapro could you tell me how long it takes to take effect? Also, does anyone know the major side effects of either of these medications? Is there weight gain?

Any you think this is due to Lexapro?? Hard to believe, since I have been on several SSRI's and none of them caused weight gain. I'm on Lexapro now and experienced no weight gain. Have you talked to your prescribing doctor about this? The weight gain could also be caused by other things such as hypothyroidism or DEPRESSION. 10 mg is the smallest dose of Lexapro, tapering off would be like maybe cutting a pill in half but I don't advise it.

I dont weight myself regularly but I knew I had gained ALOT of weight but geeze I weight 182.2. WTF???? When my doc asked me if I thought the weight gained correlated with when I started the lex, I thought and said no. Theres no way because I have always been told that Lexapro did NOT cause weight gain. Anywho, I am 5'10 and usually weight around 150. Well then I began to think on the ride home about the last year and a half.

m on Celexa now but am wondering if maybe Lexapro would be better since anxiety is my biggest concern. Has anyone had suggest with Lexapro. Also does Lexapro cause weight gain like Celexa?

I am NOT depressed but I think the remeron is making me feel that way and very lathargic and morbid thoughts. I think the remeron is also making me gain weight, does anyone else think that or feel taht way from remeron? The klonopin however is perfect for me and my family dr back home agreed so he gave me 60 2mg klonopin to take in the morning and in the evening with 3 refills and 30 .
