Hello, I just switched from Lexapro to Wellbutrin. I was originally taking lexapro for anxiety which I have had for the past 10 or so years. After my daughter was born, I was then taking it for both anxiety and depression. I normally am not a depressed person. Now I switched to Wellbutrin because of the sexual side effects of Lexapro. My concern is that I have felt really dopy the last couple of weeks.
I was on Lexapro for depression/anxiety for a year and half without any side effects. I felt like it was losing it's effect, or it may have that I was experiencing more sadness since my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I tried weaning off of it (I had tried a couple of times before that) and ended up having frequent sad thoughts after the weaning process. My doctor gave me Cymbalta. I loved the way it made me feel (ignoring the 10 pounds I gained and the frequent night drenching/insomnia).
I'm currently taking 20mg of Lexapro and 150mg of Wellbutrin. I've taken Lexapro for about 2 years now, starting at 5mg, then 10mg, now 20mg and added Wellbutrin a few months ago. I'm seeing a psychiatrist and a talk therapist but wanted to check in with the online community.
I plan to discuss this with my Dr. tomorrow. Also, just to clarify, I have only stopped the Wellbutrin. I plan to continue with the Lexapro for a bit longer.
no im on 10mg of lexapro and 300mg of wellbutrin xl. its the best combination that worked for me. and thats what its all about finding the best combination that works for you. it took me over a year to find that combination that worked for me.
I only will get a panic attack maybe 2-3x a year, so I know that the medicine has helped (for 6 years), but I have to say that it definetly has decreased my sexual relationship with my husband (I have heard this is a common side effect). I have heard that lexapro or wellbutrin do not do this. Can anyone comment on whether or not they have had that negative side effect from any of these meds?
If you mean snri, such as Effexor and Cymbalta, these are very stimulating antidepressants (as is wellbutrin) and can cause anxiety because of that. Lexapro and Celexa are very similar medications -- Lexapro is basically Celexa with some of it removed -- and these are ssris. Sometimes you can get rid of the sexual side effects by adding a small dose of wellbutrin to them. The question is, if you were on meds that worked, why were you switched? Did they stop working?
I am 28Yr old male in good shape other than my depressive and anxious thoughts. I visited a pdoc and was initially started on lowest dose of lexapro. Wellbutrin quickly added on for motivation. This mix seemed to work for me all except the ED I was experiencing from the Lex. This is a big problem for me. I then tried generic Remeron for about six weeks along w the generic wellbutrin.
Side effects of the remeron I experienced made me very drowsy as well as an increased appetite at night.
Does Wellbutrin become ineffective after long term use? Do people develop anger issues over time? One doctor told me that these effects are felt early, but would not present after years of use, and today a Psychiatrist told me that my recent emotional (angry) responses were caused by the Wellbutrin and that I needed to change to Lexapro. I'm confused. Can you tell me which is the better answer?
Hi there, ive been trying lexapro for the past 6 weeks or so to combat my stints of anxiety. Although i feel slightly better from the medication i cant handle the sexual side effects. Im in a new relationship and for love nor money i just cant orgasm. My sex drive is much lower too. Has anyone had experiences from other medications that dont give these side effects?
I took Lexapro for several years with excellent results for depression and anxiety. It takes 4-6 weeks for medications like Lexapro to reach a therapeutic level in your system. Xanax is a fast acting anxiety medication which you take on an as needed basis. They work in different ways. Be patient, you will know when it kicks in. Take care.
Hi. I'm on tamoxifen so I can't take any meds which inhibit cyp2D6 enzymes. I've been on almost ALL SSRI ( Effexor, lexapro, celexa, nortriptyline, fetzima, & viibryd) & my depression worsens with them (suicidal thoughts, etc). The only one that has helped is remeron but every time I've had to return to remeron I gain weight. I'm usually 110-112 and eat very well & workout almost everyday.
I took both wellbutrin and lexapro (a hefty chunk of each) during tx. It helped me. Some people need ad's and some don't but if you do, there is nothing wrong with taking them. Whatever gets you through.
Can Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Trazodone be taken all together? I am trying to wean off of wellbutrin and start trazodone for depression and stay on zoloft for anxiety. If someone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Usually if you have panic attacks, and are irritable, have OCD and are depressed, an SSRI would be better than Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin can make panic attacks, irritability, anger and OCD even worse).
I am convinced I have a dopamine problem, which is why I didn't even CONSIDER an ssri. I went right for wellbutrin since it works on dopamine. Well...
hi i have been on lexapro for 4 months and i think i wanna switch to wellbutrin.I know one think i have chronic insomnia and iam awake til 1 30 am each day and wake at like 11 ami can't live this way.I also have low mood and tireedness.The only issue is i am currently being for seizures 400 tegretol and 200 topamaxand also 15 zyprewxaand 20 lexapro i am just ...wlaking through life exhauted and blurred and fuzzy all the time and i forget things.
When I was on 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL, my hair was not falling out. 3 months after it being raised to 450 mg, it is really coming out like mad. I have to make a change. I was wondering if reducing the Wellbutrin to 150 and adding Zoloft would be good? I took Zoloft in the past and it worked. I think the Wellbutrin is good for fibromyalgia and I don't want to give it up completely.
Probably the Lexapro. Some people have this reaction to antidepressants. I gained a lot on Paxil. Lexapro isn't as known for this, but it can happen on a host of medications.
I have been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for awhile now after trying lots of different medications. I still feel very blah, no energy, tired all the time...what do you suggest???

For years I've been on 20 mg Lexapro. I never had ED, but it often took me a long time to climax during sex. My doctor and I decided to try switching to Wellbutrin (mostly because we thought it might help improve motivation). I'm still in the process of switching over -- cutdown from 20mg Lexapro to 10mg, and I'm now on 200mg Wellbutrin taken twice a day (400 mg total). The depression symptoms are handled fine and I think there is increased motivation.
