Avatar n tn Is ssri weight gain dose dependent?
Avatar m tn This combo makes me feel much better, but sexual side effect of deleyed ejeculation even in small dose(5mg). Any advice? I never tried any other SSRI other then lexapro and Celexa. They all cause deleyed ejeculation as a side effect? Anybody has experienced other Ssri that doesn't cause as much as side effect as this two? Thank you.
Avatar m tn My understanding is that an SSRI medication such as Lexapro diminishes the effects of your medication for The ADHD, as well as the ADHD medication does the same with the SSRI they don’t work well together and as a matter fact I actually have gone off of my antidepressant which was Lexapro as well. I’ve been on it for so many years and simply never noticed any change, so I went myself off of it very carefully I actually dream again.
Avatar n tn Ok so i have been on lexapro 10mg for 2 1/2 yrs now since my daughter passed away, and i have decided to go off of it. I dont know what i was thinking but i just quit taking it a week ago today and now i cannot handle it anymore!! I feel like a total mess. I just took 5 mg of lexapro and want to continue to wean off of it..can you give me a game plan to wean? Also i recently started taking adipex and want to know if there is a risk of serotonin syndrome taking both at the same time?
488191 tn?1210285779 Taking an SSRI (Lexapro) and a benzo (valium) is normal. I was on a different SSRI and benzo together like you. Furthermore, many people report that when starting an SSRI like Lexapro, it tends to make them feel a little more anxious or on edge. In my experience when starting an SSRI, it did actually make me a little more anxious in the beginning while my body was getting used to it.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome! Your pains absolutely could be from the cessation of Lexapro. The good news is, you've ruled anything serious out by seeking a medical evaluation (good move!) Let me ask you this, were you tapered off the Lexapro, or just told to stop taking it abruptly? These meds always should be tapered to minimize the symptoms of the discontinuation syndrome. Even though you were on a low dose, it doesn't matter.
Avatar n tn Have been taking Lexapro 20 mg for about a year and very much improved. Unable to acieve orgasm even with erection. How long does thia side effect last after weaning off Lexapro with doctor's approval???
Avatar m tn With regards to Lexapro,as I understand it, stopping an SSRI you've taken for so long coldturkey can bring about some nasty changes in brain chemistry.Your brain has gotten accustomed to the 10mg and all of a sudden it doesn't have it, hence increased anxiety and sadness.Slappy i know you know that lexapro has a shorter half-life then most ssris, maybe you can ask your doctor to switch you to Prozac which has the longest half-life, then you can wean off easier.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is an ssri, not an snri. I would try therapy first, but if Lexapro works, it will work all the time. Benzos only work while they're in your system. Klonopin is long-lasting compared to other benzos, and is specific for anxiety. Lexapro targets serotonin receptors, so is for depression and anxiety. Most serious anxiety sufferers end up on both.
Avatar m tn Any advice? I never tried any other SSRI other then lexapro and Celexa. They all cause deleyed ejeculation as a side effect? Anybody has experienced other Ssri that doesn't cause as much as side effect as this two? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
Avatar f tn Hi Jess,it's a great medication but it requires time to fully kick in and then you will see the benefits if it is the medication for you. It's an SSRI and it helps with depression. It may take 4 to 6 weeks before you see any real change whereas benzo work almost right away.
Avatar f tn OK here goes. Approx 3 weeks ago I started 10mg of Lexapro. After starting it and being on it for about a week I noticed a "tingling" feeling in my legs and feet. I tried to put up with it and then it started in my face. The feeling was at first tingling but then my feet, legs and face started to feel like the skin was very tight on it. I stopped taking the Lexapro about six days ago and I STILL have the feeling of very bad tightness of the skin on my legs, feet and face.
Avatar m tn Sorry, meant to add, stay on the Lexapro until you solve your underlying problem in therapy.
488191 tn?1210285779 Xanax can be habit forming over a long period of time. Lexapro is an SSRI and while I have not taken that one, I have taken Zoloft which is also an SSRI, so I will tell you my experience with them. SSRI's can cause a little more anxiety in the beginning, but as your body gets used to it, it will subside in my experience. Xanax is a benzo, which is a shorter acting minor tranquelizer like Ativan and other meds in that class.
Avatar m tn I was on Prozac for 7 years and was switched to Lexapro by my doc about 2 months ago for IBS and depression. I stopped taking it almost 3 weeks ago and am having some withdrawl issues...brain zaps (although a little better today), dizzy feelings, etc... Has anyone successfully gone through this? How long till withdrawl issues improved?
616534 tn?1233236497 There is actually a lot of scientific debate going on right now regarding SSRI medications and their effect on weight control. Most studies have found that SSRI meds have not demonstrated any change in the bodies metabolic rate. Other studies indicate that in some people SSRI's can cause food cravings and over eating, this resulting in weight gain. It's really weird. Many have posted here saying that their SSRI caused weight loss, while others report weight gain.
Avatar m tn Hi all As part of my treatment for trying to uncover why I have tachycardia, I had to see a psychiatrist, who has prescribed me Xanax (extended release - once daily) and Lexapro b/c he believes i suffer from generalized anxiety and possible depression. Does anyone on this board (with heart rhythm issues) have success stories from these drugs that you could share with me?
Avatar n tn For me, whenever I started/stopped/adjusted dosage of an SSRI like Lexapro, I would always be a little more on edge for awhile. When I first started, it really took me about a month or so to actually feel a little more relaxed. Many times, your doctor will prescribe a benzo like ativan to use while you are starting an SSRI on an as needed basis which can come in handy...
Avatar n tn You did right -- psychiatrists are best for prescribing antidepressants. PCPs don't know much about them -- actually, psychiatrists don't know much about them! You can ask either your doctor or your psychiatrist, since both are physicians, about contraindications. But don't stop the Lexapro cold turkey, it can be a nightmare to stop an ssri suddenly in the best of circumstances. Good luck.
1302779 tn?1287405029 hey all I have a question i weaned off lexapro slowly from 20 mg for 10 days to 15 mg for 10 days to 10 mg for 10 days to 5 mg for 10 days this is my first week off completely. I just have this slight numbing sensation in my hands and fingers and toes from time to time and wondered if anyone had any input that weaned off this drug.
1100999 tn?1257701380 You may want to speak to your doctor about another drug called Cymbalta which is a SNRI rather than a SSRI like Paxil. Or even talk about Lexapro ( SSRI ). Studies are showing an excellent sucess rate with both Lexapro and Cymbalta and this is why they are on top of my list too and i have success right now with Cymbalta. The only side effect i had was nausea and it went away. I don't feel like a ''zombie''.
