I have been on Lexapro several times over the last 4 years for 6 months to 2 years at a time. I am having problems with the sexual side effects and the weight gain. It's actually less of a "weight gain" than a shift in body composition. My pants are too tight and my shirts are more fitted but I haven't actually gained a pound. I am a competitive runner and haven't changed my exercise or eating habits over the last 2 years.

Had sexual side effects and gained some weight but I am not positive is from the Lexapro but I think may be. The Dr gave me Effexor which knocked me out for 3 days, slept 36 hours straight, then Celexa which I broke out in a rash all over my body from. He tried Wellbutrin but that did nothing. I didn't lose weight on it like some people do.

As per my Dr. I started with Lexapro. Absolutely loved it but had sexual side effects and weight gain. Next Wellbutrin, did nothing for me. Next Effexor AND Wellbutrin. Slept 3 days straight on Effexor so had to go off of it. Now Celexa and Wellbutrin. Only day 4 but this one is giving me insomnia. Too soon to know if that will wear off and if it's working. My question is, my Dr knows I am concerned about not gaining more weight.

Hi, I am too experiences horrific effects from coming off 20mg Lexapro. But I can't take all the side effects anymore. I wish I knew what to do to stop the vertigo/dizziness but the only thing I can find on internet (but havent' tried yet) is a motion sickness tablet that contains a vestibular suppressant. Only thing I wanted to mention is that a friend/nutritionist has suggested I take SamE as an alternative to the Lexapro.

m on Celexa now but am wondering if maybe Lexapro would be better since anxiety is my biggest concern. Has anyone had suggest with Lexapro. Also does Lexapro cause weight gain like Celexa?

i didnt really get bad side effects from lexapro, except weight gain and sexual side effects. i have been taking lexapro for about 3 months, i am trying to taper off of it because of the weight gain, but within two days i start getting these horrible symptoms, like tingling, burning sensation, dysphoria, suicidal thoughts, its very scary, so i am back on them, every time i try and quit, i feel like i am going to have a nervous breakdown.

Getting ready to start Lexapro and I want to know the side effects you have experienced? I have been on Wellbutrion and Cymbalta and both were not for me. Made my anxiety worse. I lost weight on both but wanted to know the weight issue with Lexapro since there seems to be one. Thanks for the help.

Has anyone taken Lexapro? If so, did you gain weight on it or experience other side effects? Did it give you motivation to do things again? My neuro doc prescribed it (10 mg) but I'm not sure if this is any good... Thanks!!

I tried Celexa and it was definitely not a good thing, threw me hypomanic/manic. If I could, I would take the Lexapro again and just take the medicine for the side effects (which are covered by my insurance!). I don't remember any weight gain on Lexapro either. The real thing I'm wondering, is if I should be taking an anti-depressant at all or if I need to be on another mood stabilizer. I dread being on a different mood stabilizer.

People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.

I have not had any side-effects from it and no weight gain. Lexapro is not only an anti-depressant but also has a component in it that helps with anxiety. I have found it to be a good drug and when I wanted to go off ot it, it was easy. I think you will do just fine. It does have the least side-effects it seems that alot of other anti-depressants.

i was on it 4 about a month. and im still getting the side affects. im still gaining weight, anf all the other side affects r still there. i heard that the side affects r supposed 2 go away within 10 days so im just wondering why i still have the side affects. can anyone please tell me why im still gaining weight, and when it will stop? cause im not eating alot, in fact, i eat less than most people, but im just getting blown up.

I have been ready more bad than good about the side effects; particularly the weight gain and the withdrawal symptoms. I will stop taking this medicine ASAP if I can a couple of lbs. Does anyone have any positive things to say about Paxil or any other anti-depressant. The doctor told me I may gain 1 lb in a yr. I have read that people that were NEVER overweight have gained 20+ lbs...

Everyone is differant Shelly, while weight gain is a side effect of Lexapro it does not mean that You're going to gain weight. It is a side effect because it has happened for some people. Just keep eating healthy and getting exercise and You should be fine. Weight gain can be scary for most females however it is really good that You're on this medication and on the road to recovery. You need to wait it out and see unfortunately, people are too differant.

If you do can you please tell me if you had any side effects? If so, what? Did you experience weight gain? I am trying to find an SSRI with little to no side effects & NO WEIGHT GAIN! I am happy with my weight & don't need a pill to make me gain unwanted weight. I am looking for your input about this med. Thanks!

s generally true. Lexapro also is known for fewer side effects, but it has its effects and it might not work for you and it too can cause weight gain. The question is, do you still need the Paxil after 10 years?

While I was experiencing the start up side effects from Lexapro (about 4 weeks) I didnt work out but didnt gain any weight during that time. Anyway long story short - in the last month to 6 weeks I have put on about 12 lbs. Now granted I had a bad bought with bronchitis in October that set me back on my gym schedule for about 4 weeks but I am now back at the gym everyday for the past two weeks and really watching what I eat and still it appears like nothing is coming off.

I am trying to find a good medication that does NOT cause weight gain. Please do not tell me SSRI do not cause weight gain. I was on Zoloft for many years & it caused weight gain. Yes if you search on lexapro, it will tell you that it could cause weight gain... Since I have taken Zoloft, I havent had any weight gain...actually I have been the same weight for a while... I havent taken any other brands besides lexapro, welbutrin, zoloft, xanax, ect. Those are the only ones, I can tell you the symptoms I have had. Xanax though, if you take that, it causes you to be really sleepy... I only take it when I have pannick attacks or anxiety attacks really bad...

Typically, any side effects will start to dissipate after about a week or two. Of you notice side effects, do not stop taking the Zoloft, but rather, contact your doctor, there are options for dealing with the side effects until they resolve. Unfortunately, a lot of people throw in the towel with these kinds of meds too early, never giving it a fair shake. You must try to be patient, as it may take a while.
