Lexapro side effects weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects weight loss

lexapro

I am about to start Lexapro and wondered how you are doing. Have you lost? Gained weight? I too don't want to gain weight, that would just add to my anxiety. Thanks for any info.
Also.....does anyone know of any other side effects that occur...major ones that is? Weight gain/Loss, etc?
For me, I believe that a side effect of Lexapro was weight gain. I believe that the weight gain is due to the fact that Lexapro has affected my thyroid. I have done some research and I believe that Lexapro will mess with your metabolic rate. I am in the process of having my thyroid tested again in a few weeks. I have been off of Lexapro for almost two weeks. I have lost almost ten pounds. I don't know if this is a side effect for others, but I do believe that my thyroid is kicking in.
JSGeare, you make an interesting point about weighing how I felt on the Lexapro vs. the side effects. When I said the sexual side effects could hurt my marriage, I didn't mean that my husband was unhappy. As long as I feel good mentally (and continue to have sex) it was up to me if I wanted to live with the side effect of not having satisfying sex myself.
People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
I was on Lexapro for almost 2 years, gained a lot of weight, withdrawn from Lexapro one month ago, eat very little, exercise 40 minutes daily and I am still gaining weight. Somebody could gell me how long it will take to be able to loss weight; i am really frustrated.
it's not well researched unfortunatley but it is boosting my mood in a very similar way to Lexapro but without the crappy side effects, including weight gain. it's actually known to help weight loss. the difference? it's a serotonin booster. it creates more serotonin in your body rather than just influencing how your brain utilizes the seratonin it already has. Just my 2 cents ..
I was able to maintain a 40 lb weight loss for over two years. After only one month on Lexapro I gained 4 pounds. That was enough for me. I stopped the Lexapro and will have to look into some other drug therapy.
i too am another person to have tried lexapro for a few times and stayed on it 12 to 18 months one time yep weight gain and i was also told no the lexapro doesnt have that side effect. after six months of stopping lexapro i see my weight starts to go down. thinking back perhaps the drug itself doesnt make us gain weight but the sideeffect of mental foggy and the who gives a **** feeling u get on this drug is proably why i personaly gain on this drug.
The combination of the two sped up the serotonin neurtoxicty with really severe side effects that I am still dealing with two weeks after stopping the medication. (My arms and legs are numb, I have a head tick, loss of balance, muscle twitching, short term memory loss, mood changes.) The first thing I would do is to stop the cymbalta, if your wife hasn't already.
Nervousness. Irritability. Sweating. Nausea. Headache. Dry mouth. Constipation. Sleep problems. Possible addiction. What To Think About Phentermine is no longer marketed in Europe due to a possible association with heart and lung problems.1 It is not known whether these medications are safe to take for more than a few weeks. Weight generally is regained after stopping medication. The best weight-loss medication program will also incorporate a weight-loss diet and exercise.
Some individuals do not have any change in their weight while some actually have a weight loss. I would go ahead and take the medication as prescribed and if you find that you have side effects that are overly bothersome or that outweigh the benefit of the medication, once again, talk with your provider to seek alternative treatment(s). Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing.
Just researched side effects: "Mood swings and high blood pressure can also be attributed to the intake of HCG." Anyone having these or other side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, fatigue? My mood has been rather odd since I started the diet and HCG. Severely fatigued. Things seem a bit "off". PS: Bodybuilding websites state HCG should be injected intramuscularly. The more I research and learn, the more confused I get.
Protien additave due to severe weight loss Multivitamin B Complex Chantix: smoking cessation towards the end of tx. I WORKS!
I take topamax to control seizures and I must say that I am surprised doctors prescribe it for weight loss alone, and that you are willing to put up with the side effects of it just for weight loss when there are other weight loss drugs out there. The "goofiness and loss of words" bothers me tremendously. I have been taking it since April and that hasn't abated any. Unfortunately I did not experience any weight loss or loss of appetite from it like everyone says. I take 200 mg a day.
I currently take 25mg of topamax in the morning and 50mg at night. I have been on it for 3 weeks and haven't seen any weight loss or side effects. Each week I will increase my dose 25mg. Does anyone have any advise for me. Does this topamax really help people loose weight. I'm a heavy pot smoker and that really gives me the munchies. I know that In order to stop eating at night I got to stop smoking pot. But overrall does Topamax work for weight and when will I see any changes?
I thought these 2 meds were known to be weight neutral or cause weight loss. My doctor knows my concern about the weight issue as this is something I have never fought to maintain while everything else in life seems to be a fight. If I stopped taking all meds, would I lose the weight and go back to my normal size. I do lack motivation that's for sure! I think or say I will start a program and don't.
once the medication is our of your system the side effects will have gone away, what you are experiencing is most likely due to another medical condition or a symptom of depression/anxiety/etc whatever the reason you were taking the lexapro for, if it was for depression, a common symptom of depression is weight gain/weight loss. i was on zoloft for a bit and ballooned from 140 to 160 in about 2 months, i came off it eventually and lost the weight, but i also wasnt 'depressed'.
I think your underlying anxiety is creating this fear of what your body is going through right now. Side effects of Lexapro in the GI category CAN include: nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, cramps, vomiting, constipation, GAS.................you stated you had pretty much all of these symptoms with the exception of dry mouth. So, do I think this stew of symptoms could POSSIBLY be related to a too fast w/d from Lexapro? Sure. (And do remember, I AM NOT A DOCTOR!!!!!
I have been on Lexapro for about 3 months started on 10 mg then increased to 20mg for anxiety and started having side effects...weight loss, memory loss, nausea, itchy red patches on my skin and uncontrollable yawning. But the biggest concern was my weight loss, since I am already struggling to keep weight on. So my doctor wanted me to taper off by going to 10 mg for four days to finish the medication then start a new medicine Pristiq...
To add insult to injury, I also have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and one of the side effects to this (syndrome) of this is the inability to lose weight easily- so as you can imagine, I was yanked off that medication real quick. I just barely started Savella last Wednesday and so far, I'm feeling the same. I'm currently on 25mg in the AM and 25mg at night. Tomorrow I bump up to the last Titration transition, 50mg in AM and 50mg in PM.
It is great hope for anyone with epilepsy, migranes, maia, but I don't think it should be prescribed for people as a weight loss pill. Their are other not so wonderful side effects, such as mind blocks, tingly hands and dry mouth. Plus, I don't think people should be given a pill just for weight loss. It is a good benefit, but exercise and diet are a better way. It's fair to us because we need the medication to aid other needs.
i find i have to take it at specific times or the side effects are much worse. the weight loss was sudden but it no longer sems to effect weight loss or gain. if you are planning to take this drug specifically for weight loss, be aware that side effects are pretty debilitating and that it is not really a sustainable option. can any enlighten me on the effects of adderall/provgil and metforin?
My psychiatrist is weening me off the Lexapro and is giving me Topamax which should induce weight-loss and also lessen the side effects of going off the Lexapro. Unfortunately, there is a lot of side effects of Topomax as well but weight gain is not one of them and need to loose the weight now !!!!
I am currently on Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I was having much difficulty losing weight so I went to a Weight Loss Clinic, where they perscribed phentermine, hydrochlorthiazide and a fiber pill with calcium. I was wondering how dangerous this is and if I could/should stop my antidressant/anxiety medications abruptly or ween myself of them while I am on the weight loss pills.
First 2 days were good non-PAWS days for me anyway and I was tip-top. Today I'm on the sleepy side wit a tiny hint of anxiety but doing OK otherwise. I don't know if my sleepy mood is from poor rest as a result of the Lexapro or just the general blah's... Still. so far so good.
Has anyone taken Lexapro? If so, did you gain weight on it or experience other side effects? Did it give you motivation to do things again? My neuro doc prescribed it (10 mg) but I'm not sure if this is any good... Thanks!!
-S), and now weight loss/no appetite. my depression usually causes me to lose my appetite & lose weight & not sleep. however, my mood is drastically improving. i am getting nervous about the food issue though - i've lost 10 lbs in 2 months, and i have to remind myself to eat all of the time b/c i'm never hungry. i can't afford to lose another pound... it could be the depression, but i don't think so b/c i'm going so well emotionally right now. has anyone else had similar side effects?
These older types of antidepressants affect neurotransmitters, causing a broad range of side effects including significant weight gain. Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t.
