I started taking Lexapro 10 mg two weeks ago for anxiety. I've had several side effects which is frustrating since I was told this drug is well tolerated. After taking the 10 mg for a week I dropped down to 5 mg to see if the side effects would subside. Now the last two days I've had severe stomach pain and loose stools. I also feel nauseous on and off. My doctor told me today that It's not the medicine causing it it's a virus.

Like... they said at 10mg there are very few side-effects and at 20mg there are noticeable side-effects. But, you obviously don't want to change the dose on your own, as this can be extremely dangerous! But, it would be worth talking to your doctor about if the side-effects don't go away fast enough. Although... most of the time... with SSRIs in general I find, it can take 2 to 4 weeks for side-effects to go away and then they're gone for good.

Well, yes, comparatively Zoloft is a more popularly prescribed drug with relatively fewer side effects than Luvox. However, since some of these side effects including vision problems are common with SSRI, taking any SSRI will cause them if you are susceptible to it. Also, yes, you may have higher level of nausea. However, drugs behave differently for different people. So, its your doctor's call whether he/she wants to try this drug on you.
Having said that, rememeber, with any SSRI, in my experience, you have more side effects as you come off, go up, or come down in dosage. I never experienced sexual side effects with Lexapro, but I have with other anxiety medications. I didn't like it one bit! So, when I stopped taking those particular meds, I am happy to say that all functions returned to normal :) If you are on Lexapro, there must be a reason (anxiety?) so I wouldn't recommend not being on anything. I'd talk to your doctor and try something else, and if that doesn't work, something else.
They said i should stop taking lexapro because of my stomach (they said i might have gastritis, has this caused it to worsen perhaps?) but the thing is after 3 days of quitting lexapro my anxiety is still here. Not as bad, but my heart is still racing 24/7 and i feel like i cant concentrate on anything other then just being calm.

Ulcers are not listed as a side effect of Lexapro. I would contact your GI doctor about your stomach problems and go from there. We aren't qualified to tell you how to change your prescribed dosage on medication(s). You need to discuss this with your prescribing doctor. Don't assume your stomach problems are due to your medication, it may just be coincidental...ulcers can and do come back.
ve had mixed side effects since starting including increased anxiety, stomach upset (both before eating and after eating), general feeling of not being myself, increased insomnia on top of the insomnia I already suffer and lower libido.
I took Effexor for several years (has been about 5 years since taking it) and also Zoloft. I do not recall any of these start up effects from either of those medications.
