Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects insomnia

lexapro

Avatar f tn Hi, I am too experiences horrific effects from coming off 20mg Lexapro. But I can't take all the side effects anymore. I wish I knew what to do to stop the vertigo/dizziness but the only thing I can find on internet (but havent' tried yet) is a motion sickness tablet that contains a vestibular suppressant. Only thing I wanted to mention is that a friend/nutritionist has suggested I take SamE as an alternative to the Lexapro.
Avatar m tn While cisapride and metoclopramide are similar in decreasing gastroesophageal reflux, metoclopramide is more likely to cause nervous system side effects such as jitteriness, insomnia, sedation, or anxiety. __________________________________________________________ Drugs.
Avatar m tn You doc should be okay with that, and sometimes that will help minimize the severity of the side effects. Benzos can be used for a short term period of time, while you're waiting for the side effects to abate. A few weeks of taking a benzo, especially if you only take it as needed, isn't a big deal. These are things you definitely want to discuss with your doc. Let us know the outcome!
Avatar f tn I took Tofranil (the brand name med) 100 mg for panic disorder from 1994 to 2004 and always responded well to it. I was switched to Lexapro in 2004, due to wanting to attempt a pregnancy. I took the Lexapro for 5-6 years, but it eventually became ineffective at blocking my panic. The doctor switched me back to Imipramine (because Tofranil brand name is so expensive) and since I've begun taking it I notice many side effects I never experienced while taking the brand name med.
Avatar f tn Like... they said at 10mg there are very few side-effects and at 20mg there are noticeable side-effects. But, you obviously don't want to change the dose on your own, as this can be extremely dangerous! But, it would be worth talking to your doctor about if the side-effects don't go away fast enough. Although... most of the time... with SSRIs in general I find, it can take 2 to 4 weeks for side-effects to go away and then they're gone for good.
Avatar f tn ve had mixed side effects since starting including increased anxiety, stomach upset (both before eating and after eating), general feeling of not being myself, increased insomnia on top of the insomnia I already suffer and lower libido. I took Effexor for several years (has been about 5 years since taking it) and also Zoloft. I do not recall any of these start up effects from either of those medications.
Avatar f tn Everyone's different. I got more anxiety when they upped me to 30mg, and also got increased pressure in my head and insomnia. But it never did work all that well for me. I think when a medication works well everything is different than when it doesn't, including side effects.
Avatar n tn Well, yes, comparatively Zoloft is a more popularly prescribed drug with relatively fewer side effects than Luvox. However, since some of these side effects including vision problems are common with SSRI, taking any SSRI will cause them if you are susceptible to it. Also, yes, you may have higher level of nausea. However, drugs behave differently for different people. So, its your doctor's call whether he/she wants to try this drug on you.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried escitilopram ? How are the side effects?
Avatar f tn I took Lexapro for eight years and when I initially began taking it, I was tired a lot, but I suffered from insomnia. Generally the side effects subside after about four weeks or so. If you are taking the Lexapro in the morning when you wake up, you may want to try taking it later in the evening and seeing if that makes you feel less tired during the day. Good luck to you; I am in a battle trying to find a drug that works and I know your frustrations!
1295419 tn?1276822872 I like the effects of the Lexapro mentally, but just curious if anyone else had similar side effects and if so, if they went away or you had to start taking something else? I was on Zoloft before the Lexapro but had to stop taking it because of urinary issues it was causing. Any advice?
Avatar n tn already, i am experiencing heightened anxiety, severe panic attacks (a rushing feeling in my body and a sense of doom), hot flashes, and a bit of insomnia (been up since 4 AM this morning). do these side effects dissipate? i am so hesitant to be on an anti-anxiety drug that actually increases the anxiety!!! i'm not sure if i'm willing to stick it out for a week or two to see how the side effects progress.
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
Avatar n tn s do not know (or have not researched into) that Lexapro in fact has some serious nasty side effects - although the maker (Forest Pharmaceutical) says there is no risk of addition or side effects. If you can avoid it - do so. Even in the 10mg form it can cause you more grief and depression if used over a period of time. It has a very bad "rebound effect" - since it is a "specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors" (or SSRIs) ...
Avatar m tn Hey, I'm on Lexapro 10mg for anxiety. My doctor just prescribed me Trazadone 50mg for insomnia/sleep problems I've been having. I take the Lexapro in the mornings since I have been having the sleep problems. It was worse when I took it at night. Anyway. I've read mixed reviews about taking these two meds. Anyone have any experiences with Lexapro and Trazodone?
750172 tn?1256147076 I read one of the possible side-effects of Lexapro is insomnia, which I already have and now with my depression about a recent breakup, my mind can't seem to stop thinking. Thanks. Your profile picture by the way is fantastic!
Avatar m tn re on a very low dose of Lexapro, sub-therapeutic level so far, if you just started you will get side effects that might not last. My Lexapro experience has been new side effects with each raise in dose until at 30mg I got insomnia. Personally, I used melatonin and homeopathic remedies, and they do help sometimes, and sometimes they don't. The proper dosage for you to start would be 1mg. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Healthcare providers can adjust the dosage to meet the specific needs of each patient. Easy to Use: Lexapro is typically taken as a simple daily pill, making it convenient for users. Supportive Therapy: It can be a valuable component of a holistic treatment plan that may include therapy and lifestyle changes. Avatar f tn ve been suffering some mild insomnia, excess sweating, but perhaps most off putting is the lack of libido and sexual response!! I realise these are listed side effects, but will these resolve themselves or are they something I'm simply stuck with if I chose to continue with the medication? I'm finding the medication helpful, and I want to continue, but the last side effect in particular is concerning for me as my husbands "love language" is physical intimacy.
Avatar n tn Lexapro gave me gastroinstestinal side effects. While as Cymbalta now seems to give me sleep troubles/insomnia. However, sometimes the medication outweighs the side effects. Cymbalta allows me to get through a day without anxiety, I rarely have to take my clonozapems. Ask your psychiatrist the next time you visit them, they will have a better idea of what route to go.
Avatar f tn Noone ever bothers to respond to my posts on here so not sure why I even bother but am going to post a last one out of need for advice..I suffer from anxiety disorder and avoidance, fear of crowds, unknown people, and unfamiliar settings. It's kept me from working due to fear of judgment and messing up or being judged or ridiculed. My doc has given me Lexapro 10mg. But I'm scared to take it.
687049 tn?1272340093 That medication needs to increase no more than 25mg per week, otherwise you can have horrible side effects like severe anxiety, insomnia and confusion. This PA tried to increase me up to 100MG in one week!!!! OMG!!! My point is contact your doctor if you are having bad side effects. Good luck to you.
