Lexapro quitting

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro quitting

lexapro

Avatar n tn I no longer want to be on the Lexapro but would like to continue with the Klonopin. I started weening my self off the Lexapro only taking half. Yesterday and today I did not take any, and was feeling extremely light headed all day. It wasn't until midday today I realized the light headed feeling could be from not taking my medication, so I took a half, and within 30 minutes I wasn't feeling light headed and haven't since. What was causing my light headed feeling?
Avatar m tn They said i should stop taking lexapro because of my stomach (they said i might have gastritis, has this caused it to worsen perhaps?) but the thing is after 3 days of quitting lexapro my anxiety is still here. Not as bad, but my heart is still racing 24/7 and i feel like i cant concentrate on anything other then just being calm. Is this because of the lexapro or possibly the stomach problems thats causing me anxiety? Before this i had some anxiety once in a while but NEVER this bad.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is an ssri, not an snri. I would try therapy first, but if Lexapro works, it will work all the time. Benzos only work while they're in your system. Klonopin is long-lasting compared to other benzos, and is specific for anxiety. Lexapro targets serotonin receptors, so is for depression and anxiety. Most serious anxiety sufferers end up on both.
2112247 tn?1334289698 How long have you been off the Lexapro? I take it you were on it for depression, or was for anxiety, or both? You can have some rebound depression after stopping an antidepressant. Have you been in any kind of therapy? If not, I would highly recommend it.
Avatar f tn Well, it has been two weeks and one day since I have been on Lexapro for depression and generalized anxiety disorder. I TRIED quitting Percocets on December 19th and failed miserably. I went to my doctor and told him about my feelings of severe anxiety, hopelessness, lack of energy, inability to sleep, crying all the time, lack of focus, etc. and he put me on Lexapro. It has REALLY given me my life back! Today I woke up and did not even THINK about Percocets.
Avatar m tn If the Lexapro is prescribed, I would be inclined to stick with it for now as the rapid decline in stimulatory neurotransmitters from quitting the other 2 drugs may lead you to feel unmotivated and/ or depressed so the Lexapro should help with this. Best wishes.
190673 tn?1259203266 t necessarily Lexapro to work just like Celexa. Though they share the same basic chemical structure, Lexapro has been altered, and many people do react to them differently.
Avatar m tn I have been on lexapro 10mg now for over a year. I want to discontinue and have run into some problems. When I am withdrawing I get cases of sleep apnea. I wake up gasping for air. I have to say Im in great shape, vand very thin. As soon as I start taking Lexapro again, it goes away. What should I do? Do I just try and punch through it?
Avatar f tn Because you could also be suffering withdrawal symptoms from quitting the Lexapro.
1288270 tn?1301287612 Now,Im not sure if I should stop Lexapro cold turkey. I just started halving it this morning...So,I wouldnt die if I just stopped taking Lexapro, Would I?
Avatar m tn Hi guys. I started taking Lexapro for my depression/generalized anxiety disorder about two years ago. For the first year, I took the drug every day as prescribed by the doctor. I didn't get any side effects which I thought was great. The drug wasn't of much help, though. A year ago, I decided to stop taking Lexapro on my own. I tried quitting it cold turkey but I wasn't able to follow through with it because of the withdrawal effects.
Avatar m tn Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.
457721 tn?1256640798 Around 2-3 months ago I decided that I no longer needed to be on my Lexapro 10mg and I began to wean myself off over the course of about 2-3 weeks. My doctor and I believed that my depression was situational and that I would only need to be on it for 6 months or so. Anyway...about a month ago I started experiencing EXTREME fatigue (would sleep 7-8 hours a night and still be exhausted all day), hair loss, rapid weight loss (I have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks).
Avatar f tn I also have a drug sensitivity after quitting my antidepressants. I was on lexapro for three years and accidentally took another seratonic drug with it. I got seratonin syndrome and this happened one more time with nyquil. I started getting sick from the lexapro several months later and quit cold turkey. It was very hard with the horrible side effects. I now have sensitivity to anything that raises seratonin (st.
Avatar n tn for reasons I`d rather not discuss. Three days ago I saw my doctor and explained this dilema to him, he started me on Lexapro 10mg. daily. Please share any advice you may have so as to ease this transition as safely and comfortably as possible.
Avatar m tn so i quit lexapro cold turkey a month and a half ago, felt ok at first then go depressed, and very anxious. So i started back on lexapro 4 days ago 5mgs.anyone have a clue or idea when it really starts to work?thanks!
Avatar m tn So I decided that I no longer need Lexapro, or any psychotropic drug for that matter, and we are weaning me off it. I was only on ten mgs, and I have slowly gotten down to 5 mg a day. I feel weird. Dizzy sometimes, little bits of confusion every now and then (lasts only 2 seconds), and I am STARVING. Then when I eat, I feel like I will be sick! What gives?? I am terrified to decrease any lower than 5 mg for fear of the symptoms. Anyone feel similar?
Avatar m tn I am a 37 year old male and have been taking 300 mg/day Wellbutrin XL and 10 mg/day Lexapro since experiencing a severe depression episode in September 2005. I have since been going to counseling weekly and maintaing maintenance of these two medications and feel that I have made tremendous improvements. However, I have yet to go back to the stress-free, anxiety-free, depression-free person that I was before this occured.
Avatar m tn ve seen a nuerologist who had prescribed me Lexapro 5mg. Right now I still hestitated to take Lexapro as I have many doubts regarding its long term use. Lexapro if taken long enough and decided to quit, I know that there are withdrawal symptomps which can be minimized if the dose is tapered. Will it do anything more than that if I decided to quit in future? Will I become more anxious than I were before I took the medication? Thanks and will appreciate anyones help.
Avatar m tn It is actually rare the very first AD someone tries is the one that will work. I took one called Lexapro for a few months before I treated last time and it was a horrible experience. I went off it and ended up taking a different one and started treatment with it instead. I strongly encourage you to call your doctor. Tell him the psych meds aren't working and tell him how you feel. Please, please, please give yourself a chance.
Avatar n tn I have just gotten Celexa but I am scared to start using it right now because i see my gf on wed. Would bad enough side effects occur to where I might be different towards my gf? I also want your advice on what's better. Lexapro or Celexa, or maybe even what's better then those for anxiety. I have done everything to attack my anxiety by quitting smoking and all drugs but it's only help a little bit. I finally came to the conclusion that I am ready to start medication.
190673 tn?1259203266 I am quitting effexor (slowly but surely) and am down to 50 mg from 150. The only problem I have is depressed mood which my shrink says is a withdrawal symptom. I plan to be med free as long as I can and if I have to get back on meds ever again (been on them for 11 years continuously) it will be lexapro first because I used to take celexa and it was working better than others. My doctor said if I get too depressed to start lexapro right away. He gave me samples.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Lexapro 20mg for a few years now and recently it's stopped working so I've been switched to Zoloft. I'm taking 15 mg Lexapro and 25 mg Zoloft and Im decreasing one while increasing the other. I've hear that serotonin syndrome can be caused by taking multiple medicines like this together and am worried.
Avatar m tn Cipralex is the same thing as Lexapro in the US. I've been on Lexapro for over two years (maybe longer) and I can't tell you how well it as worked for me. Tried Zoloft, Effexor XR, Paxil, Paxil CR and could not tolerate any of them. Gave up for a year, and then went back to the doctor and we tried Lexapro. Side effects were about 10% of the others (for me) and within one week I noticed a HUGE difference.
