Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro quit working

lexapro

Avatar f tn the first few months were ok. but there has been a change in my personality since I had what I affectionately call my "breakdown". essentially what happened was all my stress and anxiety and withheld emotions broke the dam, u could say, all of a sudden in august of last year. I basically cracked. couldn't quit with panic attacks, couldn't quit crying, couldn't function. I absolutely thought I was dying for 2 1/2 months. so when this doc put me on the Lexapro and .
Avatar m tn so i quit lexapro cold turkey a month and a half ago, felt ok at first then go depressed, and very anxious. So i started back on lexapro 4 days ago 5mgs.anyone have a clue or idea when it really starts to work?thanks!
Avatar f tn If Zoloft was working why go onto lexapro ? After one month I would think that would be enough time. Dosage may need to be tweaked.
709686 tn?1277432159 Yesterday I had decided to try and see if this would correct itself but it does not seem to be and I am VERY UNCOMFORTABLE..sometimes in real pain. I dont want to take laxatives as they can cause rebound constipation. I've been getting headaches as well. GREAT...something else to increase my anxiety! Anyway...It appears I will have to quit lexapro to get my bowels in working order. that is a shame...this stuff was working.
Avatar n tn Lexapro is an antidepressant (but can also treat anxiety) Xanax is an antianxiety med. The Lexapro may take weeks to start working but is not addicting whereas Xanax will work on anxiety right away and is a controlled substance (I can be addicting) Hope this helps. I have never been on either so I don't know how you will feel. I work in health care so i know about the drugs.
Avatar f tn recommended that I switch from Lexapro (called Lexamil where I live) to Wellbutrin to reduce unwanted side effects of Lexapro. I have been taking Lexapro for 5 years now (10 mg daily). She said to taper off of Lexapro in two weeks, first taking 1/2 a tablet each day to 1/2 a tablet every other day while introducing a tablet of Wellbutrin 150 mg. each day during this process.
Avatar m tn I am 68 and feel like I should come off of my 10mg of Lexapro for anxiety. I came off Prozac and Sersone with no problem at various times . But I am scared to death especially since I have just watched a friend fall apart from a benzo detox, and I have been his only real support. Now I am anxious just thinking about it! The Lexapro does work, but I have been on this now for 3 years. Is liquid Lexapro the option and do you know where I could find a detox schedule?
Avatar f tn I want to try Zoloft but he pretty much said no to another SSRI since Lexapro quit on me. My question is, should I expect withdrawals after such a short period of time?
Avatar n tn There are so many meds out there these days just give it some time you will find one I got back on paxil because so far it has worked the best for me after prozac then zoloft quit working for me ....
Avatar f tn So a question -- did your psychiatrist taper you off the Lexapro as slowly as you needed or did you just quit and switch? The emotional wreck part might be a withdrawal reaction if you just switched, as no two drugs work exactly the same. If you're gaining weight, the Zoloft is being metabolized, but you don't say how long you've been on it.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is an ssri, not an snri. I would try therapy first, but if Lexapro works, it will work all the time. Benzos only work while they're in your system. Klonopin is long-lasting compared to other benzos, and is specific for anxiety. Lexapro targets serotonin receptors, so is for depression and anxiety. Most serious anxiety sufferers end up on both.
1294632 tn?1306358930 What was your reason for stopping the lexapro? was it not working for you anymore? I know the bad side effects cause I am struggling now with paxil and I am fighting to just stay on 10mg...its been 6 weeks and I am so wiped out all I can do is sit and my head feels so tight and pressure like inside it...it makes me feel so dizzy.....
709686 tn?1277432159 i too suffer from a genetic anxiety and depression disorder and never spoken of it to anyone personally and i refuse to and refuse to be put on meds because they can be harmful and can make you into a vegetable on the long run. Meds are helpful but they are not natural you know. They are chemicals, toxic chemicals. This is why I think medicinal marijuana can help big time. Get high and learn to use the high so you can self medicate your mind.
535882 tn?1396576685 7 weeks on lexapro. keep improving . anxiety is real low now. still tired not 100 percent on energy. sleeping well. started talk therapy. doing relaxation exercising. and stress anxiety self hypnosis, overall. much better.
Avatar f tn Paxil was evil to me. lexapro seems to be working... I think.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I have been working with my gp for my anxiety and will be going to see a psychiatrist next month. My gp has me on 20 mgs lexapro and it is working great. She is handing things over to the psychiatrist to handle and I am scared he will not keep me on the lexapro. I have only been on it for a few months but I am nervous he won't think I need 20 mgs or want to try something else. Not only do I think it works great for me but I get very bad withdrawal symptoms if I even miss a day.
Avatar f tn Your doctor prescribed buspar AND Lexapro? *** Buspar and Lexapro should NOT be taken at same time because they can cause a rare but serious side effect of serotonin syndrome. You don't want that. So, you were right to never take all these meds together and am not sure who is prescribing them with any suggestion that there is overlap in your using them. I would not take buspar until you've spoken to your doctor. Ask them WHEN you can feel all Lexapro is washed out of your system.
709686 tn?1277432159 I will be starting Lexapro tomorrow, 5mgs, for GAD but the side effects REALLY SCARE me. I would be interested to hear someone's success story, or disappointment, with this medication. I've done lots of research on this med and am trying to weigh the risk/benefit aspect. I realize we are all different but we can't be that different. Please share your story with me.
Avatar n tn Recently Ive felt the zoloft has not been working as it used to so I went to see my nurse practictioner. She decided to switch me from zoloft to Lexapro. She said I could immediatly discontinue the zoloft and start on the lexapro 10 mg. I have been feeling a little out of sorts since I have switched and i am wondering if perhaps I should taper off the zoloft and ease into the lexapro.. or does it not matter?
Avatar f tn You body builds up a tolerance to the drug, which requires either a change in dosage, or switching to a different medication. This is common and most people experience this while taking an antidepressant. Just call your doctor and tell him that you feel it isn't working and he will know what to do.
Avatar m tn I also took Paxil and it started working really fast. After a few years when it quit working it quit working just as fast and was very hard to get off of. I would also recommend a med like Lexapro because it seems to be smoother and much easier to quit if the times comes to do so.
404138 tn?1308941656 Sorry guys im so new at this. this is my 2nd day on 10mg lexapro and i know it could take awhile to start working..i feel about the same...still anxious and more shaky.....my head feels heavy and i have a migraine that wont seem to go away..im starting to second think about taking \any meds. Im wondering if I shouold look into a beta blocker.....what is the difference SSRI ..beta blocker....MAOI ......etc whats the best for severe anxiety.
Avatar m tn Zoloft probably has the best record for working on anxiety, but it has a reputation for more side effects than Lexapro and a reputation for being harder to quit, though nothing comes close to the difficulties of Paxil. Possible side effects are vast -- from your headaches to weight gain to personality changes -- you're dealing with the brain here -- so if you know you tolerated Lexapro well and can't solve the problem without medication, maybe that's the best way to go.
Avatar f tn Am on Prozac with ativan noot helping much yet Was Effexor before no luck there. Before that I was on Lexapro for about 10 years ,for ocd, Then I just it finally quit working and noow i'm in this depression, anxiety and lonlyness. Why can't I stop crying. Why can you be going along on ok and then have your world just fall apart. Its frightening.
Avatar f tn That being said, Lexapro worked very well for my anxiety and panic disorder for a long time (10 years). It quit working for me this past December and I have yet to find something else that does. I don't recall how long it took to kick in for me but it seemed to do so quickly. 5 mg is a very small dose, you will probably need to increase it. I was on 10 mg most of the time. Lexapro made me yawn a lot, but that didn't bother me too much.
