Lexapro not working

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro not working

lexapro

Avatar f tn so I have been on Lexapro 5 mg since maybe September of last year. when all the start up side effects were over and done I evened out with my anxiety somewhat. I managed every day with it. I would and still have those few days when I panic and am jumpy and scared. i am unmotivated to do anything, i don't feel happiness. either i am uncaring or down. all i want to do is sleep. my husband has told me too that i have changed. i hate being like this. absolutely hate it.
Avatar n tn I have been on lexapro for almost 3 years with good results. Over the last 2 months, I have been experiencing increased anxiety with panic attacks again. I was trying to wean off slowly but started to take 10 mg daily again for the past 2 weeks. I have been having feelings of going to pass out, sweating, headaches that I wake up with and nervousness. I am afraid to go out to stores again for fear that I will pass out, especially if it is very hot.
Avatar m tn I do think that my lexapro is slowly kicking in. All day long I did not have to take a xanax. Hopefully it keeps working.
Avatar n tn oh and it was lexapro not prilosec, sorry!
Avatar n tn I've been taking Zoloft twice a day (100 mg) for more than 10 years and it is no longer working. I'm interesting in trying to figure out what to try now. I've heard good things about Lexapro (insurance covers) and Cymbalta (insurance does not cover no generic)... So what should I do... I'm so depressed lately - i can't stand it.. just want to isolate and sleep 24/7. no energy or interest in anything... pls help. thank you.
Avatar m tn I have been on lexapro for about 2 in a half weeks and really have not noticed anything change with my condition. i stopped taking xanax for 3 days to see if the lexapro was working. But being off the xanax I noticed I went right back to my originial syptoms of panic attacks mental confusion and fatigue. I am just wondering if someone has been in this position like me before because I am not sure if this is caused by depression or if it is caused by something with anexity or both.
Avatar f tn Is this just me adjusting to the 10mgs or is this just not working for me. Has anyone had this same experience and did it all work out for the best. Please someone answer .
1781134 tn?1315774324 I just recently switched from being on Lexapro for eight years to now taking Zoloft. I had a terrible headache for about three and a half weeks, was dizzy, and nauseaus. I'm not sure what was from coming off the Lexapro, though, and what was a side effect of the Zoloft. The good news is that all of those symptoms have now subsided.
Avatar f tn on lexapro 1 month now.. it seems to be working. helping out.. still some anxiety but not as bad.
Avatar f tn Ok, so I am on 4 1/5 weeks of 20 mg lexapro, it seems to work a little but not great, still having anxiety. DO I give it more time, add to it or try something different? I started it back the end of March. It is not the wonder drug that zoloft was but wondering if in time it could be??
Avatar n tn Also, be honest with your doctor and tell him that the meds are not working, you want to try something else. There are lots of other meds out there. You might suggest a mood stabilizer like Lamictal, lots of people have success with it, however, everyone does respond differently. If you are not already in it, talk therapy might also be beneficial in conjunction with meds. Good Luck!
650397 tn?1228831384 I am not sure it ever really did. But I know it is not doing the job now. I want to feel better, act better. Be nicer to the people around me.
Avatar m tn Hi. It normally takes 4-6 weeks for Lexapro to reach full therapeutic level in your system, which is when you will see the best results. I was on Lexapro for a few years with excellent results, but we all respond differently to therse types of medications. Unfortunately, the only way to know if it is going to work for us, is to try it. Normally, after about 6 weeks your doctor will want to see you to determine how well it's working and if you need an increase in your dosage.
Avatar m tn My doctor switched me from 30 mg of lexapro to 150 mg zoloft a week ago because the lexapro wasn't working. I had my first anxiety attack about 6 weeks ago. Subsequently, I dropped into deep depression and continued having anxiety almost daily. Several years ago zoloft worked very well for me for depression. I never had anxiety before. I know they are both SSRIs, but are different chemicals. My concern is that I will have to suffer for another 6-8 weeks before the zoloft kicks in.
709686 tn?1277432159 Yesterday I had decided to try and see if this would correct itself but it does not seem to be and I am VERY UNCOMFORTABLE..sometimes in real pain. I dont want to take laxatives as they can cause rebound constipation. I've been getting headaches as well. GREAT...something else to increase my anxiety! Anyway...It appears I will have to quit lexapro to get my bowels in working order. that is a shame...this stuff was working.
Avatar f tn Lexapro did not work for me either. There are so many option you want to check with your doctor if its not working for you, so they can get you on something else that will work. If you are looking for names there is Prozac, pristiq, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, cymbalta, etc.... Just speak with your doctor first.
Avatar n tn I asked my psychiatrist if the generic works any differently, as every now and then you hear of generics not working quite as well. She said there is virtually no difference in the drugs, except for the fact that one is a brand name and one is a generic. However, I recently went through the same thing as you. I'd been on Lexapro for eight years and did so well on it, and out of the blue it stopped working.
723800 tn?1230887234 Hi, I had my first pacemaker when I was 19 due to being born with a congential heart block, so I was given dual wire pacemaker, everything seemed to be working well as far my cardiologist was concerned when they discovered that 1 of the wires was'nt working properly, although I was not having any side affects to this but because of the size of the pacemaker to which they inserted I did recieve quite a few episodes of chest pains.
Avatar m tn Oh, and by the way, if you only have depression and not anxiety, the first ssri you want to try is Prozac, not Lexapro -- fist, Lexapro isn't off patent, so it's pretty expensive, and second, Prozac tends to be easier to quit since it stays longer in the body.
Avatar n tn d find out why you were switched from a med with the lowest level of reported bad side effects to one with the most if the Lexapro was working fine for you. Very odd. So she's right, I'd find out why. I would personally never change from a medication that was working, it's not easy to find one that does work.
Avatar f tn If your doctor thinks that your life is affected enough from your anxiety and depression to prescribe it to you, then why not see if it works for you? You can always choose not to take it in the future, but you would have given it a try. Just remember they do take a while to 'kick in,' but for me, SSRIs like Prozac worked very well as I went through counseling. Keep us posted!
