Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro kidney damage

lexapro

Hello doctor, I am a 24 year old male who takes Losartan 100, Toprol xl25 and Hydrochlorothiazide 25. Recently a psychiatrist prescribed me Lexapro 10mg and Xanax 0.5 twice daily to hopefully treat the anxiety/panic disorder that has made my life very difficult the last few years. However I am concerned as I suffer from high blood pressure and racing heartbeat and now I am afraid to take the Lexapro as I fear its going to worsen my not so good blood pressure and heart rate.
A couple of months ago I was feeling very stressed and anxious, so I decided to start taking lexapro again. (I had been on lexapro and ativan for a couple of months a year ago, and had now been medicine free for several months). I took 10mg before I went to bed and woke up at 3am with heart palpitations, muscle weakness, nasuea, and a severe heat flush. I went to the ER and they said it was a panic attack and gave me xanax to take .5 3x daily.
I have stage 3 CKD (just diagnosed a month ago) I am 30 yrs old and developed depression and heavy panic attacks. Doctor gave me Lexapro but i read that it can worsen my CKD. What should I do? Should i try a natural.approach or will it be okay without further damage?
Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.
I just wanted to be thorough. **Please** help if you can...I'm extremely worried I did permanent damage to my brain and heart by stopping the drug so abruptly, and I have no idea how to be myself again. I don't want my daughter to have a weeping, miserable mess of a mother every week or two per month the rest of her life. Thank you for taking the time to help, I really appreciate it. I just feel so hopeless...
The first is the obvious one of large fluid intake. If you can cut back on that, you may solve the problem easily. You may have some kidney damage that has resulted in both your hypertension and your frequent urination. A third issue is a condition called “diabetes insipidus” which results in the production of large volumes of dilute urine. This can be diagnosed by measuring the specific gravity of your urine after you have been fasting for 12 hours.
In dogs, acetaminophen leads to liver failure and, in large doses, red blood cell damage. 3) Antidepressants (e.g. Effexor, Cymbalta, Prozac, Lexapro) While these antidepressant drugs are occasionally used in pets, overdoses can lead to serious neurological problems such as sedation, incoordination, tremors and seizures. Some antidepressants also have a stimulant effect leading to a dangerously elevated heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.
Such phenomenon is usually seen in case kidney damage as evident by diabetes and albuminuria. Hence, you need to undergo kidney function test. Also appropriate change in prescription or night time introduction of anti hypertensive may be needed against prescription. I suggest you to consult physician for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
(not sure what those are) but she said with me having only one kidney I'm risking damage to my only kidney and to come into the dr. today. I guess they didn't believe that it was as severe (xanax addiction) and if they weren't going to help me I was seeking help elsewhere. She said they would run a lipid panel to make sure everything's ok with the kidney, do an ekg and some bloodwork before I put my body through that. So I thought it couldn't hurt.
I originally had taken Lexapro which made me gain weight (15lbs) and total lose of sex drive which was lovely. He switched to Lorazepam which I only take at night and finally gettng sleep. I am still tired tho. They said the other half of my thyroid had hashimotes...not even sure what that means. Will go back in 3 months unless I need to. Still not losing any weight. He suggested South Beach. I believe he said he wanted my TSH to be below 1. It was 56 before the RAI with no meds.

I took two lexapro 4 months ago and was diagnosed with an Extra Pyramidial Effect. I had bad muscle spasms and stuttering. I was put on benztropine which put the bad spasms and stuttering to a slower pace. I was taken off that medicine by my regualar doctor because of what it did to my eyesight. I only get mild ticks and spasms thruout the day and only stutter at times. I still have a constant shaking in my left hand which i did not have before.

They have the potential to be both curative and to buy time by holding or reversing damage. I wonder if anyone is persuing trying to discover and eventually mimic chemically exactly what it is that occurs when the body reverses liver damage? It would be wonderful if research could figue that one out. But I would imagine that there are a great many factors that take place all at once - making the basic research of it extremely difficult.
can't take it anymore because I had a seizure. I can't take any pain meds right now because of severe kidney damage that my docs are trying to deal with and keep me out of dialysis. Any information on natural pain relief would be great!

MRIs are not used to tell the extent of liver damage, at least not to my knowledge. Just because you have hep C doesn't mean you have liver damage. If your liver is healthy, there is no reason to jump into treatment, especially not now when better treatment is looking so good in clinical trials.
But I still have this horrible itching and sensation that the nerve endings on my skin are tingling, and my skin also feels likes it's dry and shrinking. I'm going to try to go back on tx, but also think I could have some kidney damage. I thought things would clear as soon as I stopped but that's been 4 weeks and the skin is still driving me crazy. Best wishes to you and in your healing.

Really - in the long run - it truly is up to your doctor and your pharmacist to monitor your intake of medicines. I took during my Treatment multiple types of medications. I advised my pharmacist that anything that was harmful to the liver was a NO-NO. He in turn researched every single medicine. There are some medicines that are processed solely by the liver and can cause damage to your "healing" or already damaged liver. Those are the ones you want to stay away from.
She completely understands why and knows I need them but she also knows that liver damage and kidney damage are possible. How many years can a person be on 4-6 percs a day with oxycontin 3 times a day? In 40 years that would be 87,600 percocets and 43,800 oxycontins- I can't do that to my body if I live to 74.
Great to see that you have kept your positive attitude, and you continue to help others. Hope your bx shows a reversal of damage. I'll be doing shot #57 of 84 this Friday. Insurance quit at week 48, but doc is giving me samples, Peg/Copeg. Procrit for 2 months, off now for a month, starting to feel that anemic exhaustion again. Platelets are low, 44,000, I'm bruising from elastic tourniquet when blood is drawn.
My pain started in 8/06, primarily in my mid-spine and right back flank by my kidney. Pain was stabbing and burning. After an extensive workup, docs decided to try removing my gallbladder to see if that might be the cause. I had that done 9/25/06. Two days later, I developed a PE (blood clot in my right lung), was admitted to the hospital and put on blood thinners. Five days later, they found I was bleeding internally from the floor of my liver bed.
Can anybody explain how stress brings heart attack.
People with decompensated cirrhosis are at increased risk kidney damage stemming from the use of NSAIDs. people with ascites may not respond to treatment with diuretics while taking NSAIDs, as they counteract their actions. People with liver disease who have had internal bleeding from varices are more prone to bleed.
I have too much other things to deal with. I was recently hospitalized for a kidney infection which was the most painful experience of my life! They first have me Morphine which gave me migraines. Then I was on Dilaudid for a few days. That helped greatly. I went back to my doctor today cause the pain in my Kidney is coming back. I haven't had to take meds for it till the past few days. He gave me Oxycodone. I have taken it a few times before, and I think i reacted well to it.
I didn't take well to the fact that it can damage your liver. I already have elevated liver enzymes, so that didn't go over well with me and I refused it. I think, if you have a good doctor, you have to have your liver enzymes monitored while on this medication. If they don't test you, demand it. It takes awhile and a lot of patience to find the right combination of meds that work for you. Best wishes.
However, from what I hear, it causes liver damage but if I don't have much damage then what the f***? How can it cause damage and I've been a chronic smoker for at least 30 years...and have very little damage? hmmmm...quite the conundrum... Thanks for puttin the scare on me about my liver...I think I'll go smoke a joint and calm down...

First dose caused cramping first night & I noticed my voice was hoarse. I took only one dose.Since then I've had tremors all over constantly with muscle fatigue in left shoulder & forearm.
