Lexapro kick in

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro kick in

lexapro

Avatar m tn switched me from Lexapro to Effexor a few years ago and there was no waiting in between for the effexor to kick in. Then I was switched from Effexor to cimbalta and back to Lexapro. I never had to wait for the new meds to start working.
Avatar f tn s a great medication but it requires time to fully kick in and then you will see the benefits if it is the medication for you. It's an SSRI and it helps with depression. It may take 4 to 6 weeks before you see any real change whereas benzo work almost right away.
Avatar n tn 4 weeks for the anti-depressant effect to kick in and apx. 6 weeks for the anti-anxiety effect to kick in. Hang in there Maddy! (Just KNOWING that it takes a while before these effects kick in was an encouragement for me.) Be thankful you were not on Wellbutrin. The drung manufacturer themselves state that if a user stops taking THAT drug, it may not work at all when a person starts up with it again!
1348686 tn?1310654243 ve taken Lexapro for several years with excellent results. Keep in mind that we all react differently with these types of medications and it is often trial and error as to what will work best for us. Always work closely with your doctor on your meds and never stop them abruptly. You won't know if it will work unless you try it, so give it a try and keep in mind that it can take 4-6 weeks to get the full benefit of these types of medications. It has been very helpful for me. Take care...
Avatar n tn Lexapro made me extremely sick. I was given this for depression. Xanax will kick in in about 10-15 mins and it just calms you. I was given this for anxiety. But, they had two TOTALLY different effects on me!! I dunno if that helps and people are different, but my mom an i took Lexapro and made us both extremely sick!!
Avatar f tn Well It's been 5 days on lexapro and last night I cut the pill in half, now 5mg, because of the stomach pain and nausea in the morning. Just nausea this morning. Called my doctor yesterday, but of course no return call. I guess I'll have to make another apt. Still crying every morning and wondering if I should stop this anti depressant or not. I hate to waste 5 horrible days if it will start working soon. Canceled my apt to my hep doctor yesterday.
Avatar m tn It takes a little while for Lexapro to build up in your system and become effective so I would definilty give it more time and never stop a medicine like Lexapro without talking to your doctor because you can have withdrawl symptoms from stopping it too quickly. After about 7 or so days you should start feeling better if you don't feel better after 2 or 3 weeks then I would go back to your doctor for further treatment.
Avatar m tn For me, it initially took about 3-4 weeks to 'kick in.' As the members mentioned above, each person is different. Another important aspect to all of this in my opinion is to ensure you seek help through talk therapy. There is not magic pill that will cure you of this, but with this combination it is a very powerful tool to help you confront your anxiety and depression. Please keep us posted!
Avatar f tn ). For me, it took a good month for a medication like Lexapro to kick in. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Lexapro often needs 4 to 6 weeks to fully kick in. You mention that you've been on it for six weeks with four weeks at 20mg. What was the dosage for the other two weeks?
Avatar n tn In my case, my doctor prescribed me Lexapro as an attempt to help reduce anxiety / depression that we felt was caused by the PVCs I was experincing. I took it as prescribed. After 3 weeks of not noticing any reduction in PVCs; nor, did I like the side effects of Lexapro, I discontinued it (per my doctor's instructions). Of course, I wasn't on Lexapro long enough to receive the "full" therapeutic effects/benefits either.
1475202 tn?1536270977 Hopefully this will be much more cost efficient and will allow more people to use this med. Thanks for the info poohbear! How have you been by the way?
Avatar m tn My theory is that I'm getting all worked up expecting the medicine to kick in right away. This pressure is definitely causing more anxiety and more detachment. I hope it really works because I'm feeling more detached than ever. From what I read, it seems like depersonalization/derealization. Thanks.
535882 tn?1396576685 SSRIs like Lexapro can take about a month to 'kick in' in my opinion. I am a big supporter of these medications when they are combined with talk therapy. I believe they will/do help with tension. For me, it actually increased my anxiety level a little in the beginning, but in the long run I think they are good at what they are designed to do...keep us posted!
709686 tn?1277432159 Lexapro should be started slowly, upping the dose 5mg at a time so you can get used to it. I had different side effects at every dose change, and it really messed me up when I went up to 30mg. So now I'm going back down the ladder, slowly, so I can try some other crazy med. You might want to use a benzo temporarily until you know if the Lexapro is going to kick in if it's that stimulating, or it might be the wrong med for you. Good luck. And any side effect you have?
Avatar m tn Different people react in different ways to anti-anxiety type meds. You may want to ask your doctor about Cymbalta. If staying on klonopin, maybe switch to a generic as well. Usually it's about two weeks to notice any differences. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Thanks for all your support guys but I'm coming off, can't take it.....I've only taken 5mg per day for 6 days and absolutely flying, speeding!! Lost weight within the first 2 days now just shrinking day by day!
689327 tn?1240229164 In the past yr I have been on celexa, lexapro , Zoloft and now back on lexapro because the 200 mg of Zoloft was making me shakey. None of these AD's seem to work aty anxiety and depression. The only slight relief I get is from klonopin, which I have been on for a yr also (low dose .25mg 3x's a day. My podcast keeps telling me to be patient because it takes time for these mess to work .
Avatar m tn I have given the medicine a week to kick in but it seems to be getting steadily worse. The only other med I have ever been on is Paxil and my highest dose was 25mg. I went away from it because I started getting anxiety and I thought it had lost its effectiveness. Where do I go from here? Back down on Lexapro 10 since some people say they have done that? Off of Lexapro and back on Paxil at a higher dose? I'm just scared nothing will work...
Avatar m tn Lexapro has been great. I feel like it takes it a little longer to kick in than the Zoloft did for me but it has helped my anxiety tremendously. I started seeing results within 1-2 weeks.
Avatar m tn How long have you been on Lexapro? In my opinion, these medications can actually increase ones anxiety before it helps while the body adjusts to it. I am a big proponent on medications like Lexapro, but remember they can take a good month to 'kick in.' Did your doctor prescribe you a benzo for short term use while you start Lexapro (if you just started). Also, anxiety can cause many symptoms as well. Are you seeing a counselor for talk therapy as well? Keep us posted!
Avatar m tn re not at a therapeutic dose yet nor have you been on the drug long enough to see if it works or not, but the side effects kick in before the drug starts to work. It may be this drug is not for you, but it's much too early to tell. But if it does stick around, tell your psychiatrist you want to taper off and try something else.
1448936 tn?1363206346 I have been on Lexapro for a couple of years with excellent results! But keep in mind we are all different in how we respond to these types of medications. So, what works well for one, may not for another, and vice versa. Unfortunately, it is often trial and error as to what will work best for us, but once we get the right one, it's well worthh it! They're all addictive, and I wouldn't worry about this right now, getting you feeling better is priority.
Avatar f tn Low dosage 75Mgs a day XR. It will kick the depression in the ***, which in turn usually reduces the Anxiety. A good Combo, Just my Opinion. My symptoms were much like yours so I'm just telling you what worked for me for a good long while.
Avatar n tn Please try and give it more time. I took lexapro and had bad side effects too in the beginning. I was so ready to stop taking it. Then, the side effects lessened and lessened and finally went away completely by the second week. You've already invested one week, please try and give it another week to see if the side effects go away. And as Venora said, please talk to your doctor first. It also took four weeks for me to feel the medication kick in, but I am doing fabulous with it now.
Avatar m tn Yes, Lexapro can cause sweating and feeling hot. Common side effect. Don't know about the itching. It's too soon to know if the med will work or not, side effects occur before effects kick in, so no way to know if this will last or go away.
Avatar f tn Lexapro comes in doses of 5, 10 and 20 mgs. The 10 and 20 mg tablets can be scored. Most Drs start you off on 5 to 10 mgs and may increase it to 20. From everything I've read, they usually don't go much above 20 mgs. I took this med myself and did not do well on 20 mgs. It must have been too much for me. You are at a pretty high dose right now and I don't know if I would risk going above that dose.
