Lexapro how long to work

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro how long to work

lexapro

Avatar f tn t usually used if anxiety is the primary problem unless all other meds have failed to work, and can be very difficult to stop taking. It does usually take 4-6 weeks for a drug to work, but if you decide this drug isn't working for you after that time period I'd stop taking it sooner rather than later as it's easier to stop the shorter time you've been on it, and still even then it must be tapered off of.
Avatar m tn However currently I seem to get shaky as the day goes on, some days are worse than others. How long is this going to last, is there preventative measures I can take? I currently take Celexa for depression but I was shaky before this and the doctor recommended that I increase my dose but it hasn't had any effect on the shaking. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn 5 mg twice a day for the past 3 years for an anxiety disorder .How long does Lexapro usually take to work? Do you actually feel happier and want to get out of bed and do things? I asked if there will be any serious side effects and he told me "No". I read a few reviews and some people experienced weight gain.
Avatar f tn I am getting tired already tho and having back/ hip pain so hoping I can last that long at work. Work as long as I your body will let you.

Avatar n tn s nice to talk to someone who knows how I feel. I think I have decided to keep a journal of the attacks. I don't know why, maybe it will help me get through them. Somehow I will just have to live with this....
Avatar f tn I'm sure it works for some people, and there's a thread in the archives about it. Personally, I think this supplement combines things that should be taken separately and has things in it that are the wrong form or not for the purpose of the substance, and I don't trust it because it's direct marketed. But many on the thread loved it. However, I don't think you're a candidate for it or for medication, either.
Avatar f tn I could not take lexapro. I switched to paxil. Love it. Contact you doctor.
1781134 tn?1315774324 For the past while on Lexapro it doesnt seem to be working as well anymore and my anxiety and panic attacks are back with a bang and depression a bit also so I discussed with my doctor and they suggested Prozac is really good for anxiety and might work better so today ive cut from 20mg to 10mg Lexapro after been on Lexapro for so long. So what can I expect?? Will the prozax work better?? Will I feel horrible coming off the Lexapro Fill me in!!!
Avatar m tn I myself cannot be sure, except that my fatigue and anxiety threaten to affect my full-time work demands. I have read many posts about Lexapro and its side effects, as well as the difficulty of withdrawal. I am not sure that the cure is better than the disease --- unless a person cannot function at all (which I have witnessed in agonizing fullness in my family).
Avatar m tn You could also suggest giving an extra week at 5mg Lexapro to give your body a little longer to adjust to this new chemical. Headaches, temperature fluctuations, breathing fluctuations, minor aches, etc. can be common with titrating meds.. Patience and contact the doctor if you feel you there is need.
135456 tn?1301437624 Did you have weight gain? How long did you take it for?
Avatar f tn which I got on a new medication for recently and it works very well. Long story as to why I was prescribed Lexapro by a someone else (a nurse practioner); however, I was leary of the diagnosis but i tried it out anyway. Did not work. My question is this: Should I wean myself off or cut cold turkey? This new Doc. said cold turkey is fine b/c I have not been on it very long; however, I read so much horror stories about withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn After doing some research, we went back to the doctor and questioned why they did not just increase his does of Lexapro since we knew it seemed to work. His doctor agreed to switch him back to lexapro, but after 6 weeks she had still not gotten around to calling in his prescription. We switched doctors and got him on 20mg of Lexapro. It worked WONDERFUL and he was back to his happy self which was great. Then again...6 months later it seemed to stop working.
4981427 tn?1371670469 I really do understand how awful it is to have to wait for your meds to start working. Is your anxiety the same, better, or worse than before you started the new dose? Try to hang in there a little longer like Nursegirl said. If you feel no difference or start feeling even worse in the next couple of weeks then it may be time to really think about giving Lexapro a try, like I mentioned before. You know we're here to support you any time you need us.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was on paxil 20 mgs for 11 years - gained so much weight and was switched to Zoloft. On Zoloft 50 mgs and anxiety/depression came back. Dr. upped it to 100 mgs and then it came back again. I switched doctors as mine was getting older and he switched me to Lexapro. It worked for 1 year and came back again. You are not goin to believe this but I went back to the kind older doctor who treated me for years. He is 80.
Avatar f tn A nurse practitioner isn't good enough for this problem. You need a psychpharmacologist. I think you've posted before and been answered already. You are suffering from Paxil withdrawal, and you're having a bad case of it. When stopping a drug results in emotional problems of a level and intensity different from what you had when you started the drug, it's withdrawal.
Avatar f tn So the only way you can tell how any drug will affect you is to take it. The only way to avoid that is to fix the problem through therapy, which isn't easy but I hope you're trying. If it helps any, Lexapro has a reputation for having fewer side effects, but I'm not sure it's really deserved or not. But it does have that reputation.
Avatar m tn Lexapro has been around for a long while. It is time tested safe. People have been taking various SSRI meds for 25 years now and still there is not track and trend pointing to adverse health risks. I have been taking antidepressants for almost 20 years now and I'm still alive and kicking. My last check up shows no negitive health issues from my SSRI usage.
Avatar f tn You have a lot of misconceptions about how these drugs work. I think you've also gotten a very odd sense from someone that Zoloft caused your rectal bleeding but you say you were told it didn't cause the swelling. Lots of things can cause rectal bleeding, including hemorrhoids but also harder to find and diagnose anal fissures (had one, so I know).
Avatar f tn I'm not Alidora, but I took Paxil for years before it gave me insomnia. So there you go. These drugs can change over time, they're weird, nobody can tell you how you're going to feel. I would recommend you try Lexapro rather than Paxil; Paxil can be a very difficult drug to take and stop taking. Lexapro can, too, but few are as problematic as Paxil. Given you won't know how either will affect you, I'd go with the Lexapro first, and Paxil as a last resort only.
Avatar m tn I am 52 years old, and for years and years I couldnt understand as to why my moods shifted from good to bad within an hour to two at a time. Feelings of great joy, then boom, feelings of sadness.I used to self medicate with opiates to try to soften things up, but it just made things worse. Went to psych and was diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I am now on 20 mg of lexapro and 5 mg of abilify.
Avatar m tn I'd wait to see how it goes longer-term. Remember, the side effects start long before the effects. I wouldn't want to suppress what I'm feeling at this point so you can make an enlightened decision about whether this drug is right for you. If it starts to work but you still have side effects then it's time to ask your question again.
