Lexapro for menopausal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro for menopausal symptoms

lexapro

Avatar f tn Did you just enter menopause? Because if you did, it could be hormones. But given you've been on a med for years, you must have had an anxiety problem for years. You don't say how long you've been taking the ativan or how often. If you only take it when you absolutely have to, not on a daily basis, you're not going to get addicted to it and it won't be as hard to stop taking.
Avatar m tn Both gave me horrible side effects. The she prescribed me .5 Ativan and Lexapro. Ativan works for a little bit but whenever I take .5 mg of Lexapro it seems to exaggerate the anxiety. I started taking the medications for 4 days now . Is it possible to have any withdrawal symptoms from taking Ativan? I am determined to find something like herbal supplements to help me with the anxiety. Please help me. Thank you.
Avatar f tn To: Dr. Santos Hello. I've been having this problem (frequent urination) pretty good for about 1 year now. I feel tired a lot and I have a outer itching on my vaginal area around my monthly cycle time but I don't have a yeast infection because I've been tested for this many times. I take 20 mg of Lexapro daily and on other medicine. About one year ago, I had a glucose test done at my annual pelvic exam visit, and my sugar was higher than usual but not diabetic.
Avatar n tn 025 mgs of Synthroid because my blood work indicates I have a hypothyroid. I was given Lexapro for anxiety because of the other symptoms that I am suffering, but had a very bad reaction. This is my history: 12 years ago I had surgery to remove a growth on my right thyroid that was causing hyperthyroidism (long story short is that this condition was treated/misdiagnosed for almost 13 years) after my surgery my left thyroid kicked in and I did not need meds..
Avatar f tn Thyroid problems are often undiagnosed but can cause VERY similar symptoms to menopausal hormone shifts!!! It can cause the depression and anxiety as well! Ask your doc to do a simple blood test for all of these things first. If they all come back within normal levels for your age and stage of life, then perhaps, giving the Lexapro a try is worth it.
443862 tn?1237999439 I have to agree with hotrodgirl, everyone is different. I had a total hysterectomy 3 months ago and never started having menopausal symptoms until recently. My symptoms are beginning to become more intense - hotflashes several times a day, but they only last maybe a minute at the most. I know my face becomes red because I can feel it. Of course, I don't want anyone to notice so most of the time I turn my head away from them - LOL.
Avatar m tn Lexapro, the brand name for escitalopram, is a widely prescribed medication known for its effectiveness in managing mood disorders. This antidepressant, belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class, offers several benefits to those struggling with conditions like major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. https://buylexaproonlinepharmacy.weebly.
Avatar f tn My mom was godzilla too! I started taking the antidepressant, lexapro, for an unrelated problem, and discovered all my PMS symptoms and menopausal craziness went away like it never existed. Something to keep in mind for future reference if you start having difficulties.
404138 tn?1308941656 s cheaper (I have no insurance and was forking over 88 bucks a month for the Lexapro). The Celexa is only $4 at walmart, and I actually feel fine, as if I hadn't changed meds. Stick with the Lexapro for now, it works fast and supposedly less side effects. But keep Celexa in mind for later if you choose to include meds in your daily life for an extended period. All the best, you are worth it!!
Avatar f tn Thinking about trying Lexapro for generalized anxiety. Any advice or experiences? I have previously tried Buspar (had no effect) and Zoloft which made me constantly nauseous.
Avatar n tn Could you provide me with a weaning schedule for 10mg of lexapro that I've been on for 6 months and now want to discontinue/
Avatar m tn I have been on xanax and lexapro for a few months now. I think that the lexapro is not working and my anxeity is getting worse then before. I already notified my doctor of this situation and have an appointment with him. I am just wondering sometimes when i am speaking to someone i just blurt out whatever is on my mind not meaning to say it. Is that a symptom of anexity or am i going crazy. I am really getting sick of having the mental confusion 24 7 all day everyday. I just have to get better.
Avatar m tn ve been on lexapro for 2 years...please do not abruptly stop taking the medicine. never go cold turkey! if you plan to wean off the med, please see your doctor and he/she will be able to give you a good plan as to how to lower your does gradually and everntually be free of the meds. i tried weaning off lexapro too fast and had horrible side effects. please check with your doc before you make any changes to you medication. take care and good luck!
Avatar f tn I am suffering from EXTREME peri-menopausal symptoms including panic attacks, and heart palpatations, as well as night sweats that happen so often I haven't had a good nights sleep in well over a year. I have been to the gynocoligist, internist, endocrinoligist. The internist put me on effexor about 6 months ago, but as I have reported to him, I see no difference. I have healthy eating habits, and I exercise on a regular basis, and have always been EXTREMELY healthy.
Avatar f tn You really need to discuss menopause with a gyno. Your hot flashes and difficulty sleeping could be attributed to a hormonal imbalance. If this is the case, Effexor XR is a popular SSRI used for menopausal symptoms. Don't know why that one in particular. Also HRT can be all that is needed for some women.
Avatar f tn If this is so, does anyone know how long it will take for the medicine to induce menopause, and how long will the medicine be needed to treat the symptoms? Since i'm uninsured and my period is making me very sick, especially those debilitating migraines, (probably, because i'm too old now) I'm trying to find a way to help myself. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have been on Lexapro 20 mg for over a year now. I cant remember how long its been. Anyways, I have weened off the medicine. I went to 10 mg, then 5 mg. I am still having horrible withdrawal symptoms. My doctor said its not normal that i am still feeling withdrawal symptoms after 2 weeks. I have been weening off it for about 3 weeks to a month. I decided after taking 5mg for about 1.5 weeks that I am going to stop taking it all together. Of course the symptoms are still there. I am very dizzy.
Avatar f tn I also took lexapro for approximately 2 years, then it stopped working. Went on prozac, then it stopped working. Now I'm back on lexapro, about 3 weeks now, the depression is lifting. I feel strange whenever I switch meds, but sometimes they lose their punch after a lot of time goes by. You will feel better soon. And you have the right attitude, the meds don't do it all for us. We have to participate in managing our symptoms. You're on the right track...GL...
Avatar f tn as he called it. He prescribed me 10mg of lexapro, and told me to take it for a few months. This scares me to death, because I do not want to start something that I will have a hard time getting off of. I also suffer from severe constipation, and I do not want anything to effect that including weight gain. My physician and GI doctor said it was safe to take. I do not want to take these, but I will admit that I have not felt like myslef in months, and I would love to feel normal again.
Avatar m tn I was on lexapro 10mg for about three weeks and they were miserable for me. I also was taking Xanax 2mg at the time and that combo knocked me out cold after school. The lexapro also gave me severe nausea to the point where I could only eat bread type things or I would feel like I was gonna vomit. This catapulted me into depression and I wouldn't get out of bed or eat. I finally said enough I can't do this and got off the lexapro. It was the best decision I had made.
Avatar m tn Now, I will obviously give it some time since these could just be the withdrawal symptoms of the Lexapro but I of course I am wondering if the Lexapro was helping me and not just making me feel dead in the head. It is so hard to tell what works with these drugs and it is very frustrating. So, anybody out there that is just on a benzo and doing well? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Am on day 3 of no vics - been taking 4 to 5 7.5 per day off and on for about 7 years. I've gone off before - but really want to make it stick this time. When I was off before - it took about a month or so to actually feel better - big thing right now is no energy - of course am going through the sicky feelings and not hungry - anyone know of herbal type remedy to make this easier - I am also on lexapro - 10 mg. a day - anyone know how this will effect the withdrawal yuckiness?
Avatar n tn vaginal strep A, nausea, discharge and spotting post menopausal, thickening of the uterus, bloating with lower left side pain under rib cage. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn As for Lexapro. I have been taking this for a short time (a few months and I have weight problems) and thus far, no extra weight on account of it. Knock on wood.
Avatar n tn I went off of the Lexapro when I became pregnant, which at the time everything seemed fine, and then after he was born was put back on Lexapro for Post Partum Depression. I have never been on anything for anxiety until a couple of months ago when the doctor put me on Xanax to take only when needed to help to combat my mind seeming to go 90 miles a hour sometimes. Since then, my physical symptoms, none of which I knew could be attributed to anxiety, have only gotten worse.
Avatar f tn Dry eyes get worse as we get older, especially in women menopausal or post-menopausal. I would strongly suggest your read about Restasis which my wife and I have been on for over 10 years with excellent results, there is a newer, stronger one called Cequa but it is much more expensive. I would also suggest you find within a driveable distance a eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in corneal diseases.
