Avatar n tn I have been on zoloft and lexapro in the past. Everything is a temprary fix. What meds have been working for others? I can't turn to alcohol and self injury or binging/purging (I'm also struggling with bulimia) everytime I'm down. It is ruining my relationships with friends and family, I have constant guilt about things that aren't even my issues.
698519 tn?1228122694 If you are not in the 12 step program, please consider for both your alcohol recovery and recovery from bulimia. American Psychiatric Association Eating Disorder Guidelines reports that 22% of bulimics have criteria for alcohol abuse. You are not alone. It would be wise for you to seek out an eating disorder treatment program to focus on your specific needs related to your bulimia. Avatar n tn Except for my teenage and college years, when I struggled on and off with bulimia for roughly 10 years. I stopped completely about 5 years ago, and have never had another episode. Last year, I suddenly started experiencing heart palpitations. I went through the whole workup - Holter monitor, stress test, echo, cardiac MRI, and then another 2-week event monitor. The doc said I'm having PVC's and a few runs of NSVT, but otherwise my heart looks structurally fine.
Avatar n tn I am recovering from bulimia, and have been for about three months now. I was bulimic for 7 years (I started at age 16), and only ceased for two healthy pregnancies. I didn't realize all the harm I was causing to my body. I really don't know much about it, but I guess I am curious if my body will ever get back to normal. How long, if ever, will it take for your metabolism to return to normal? Is it possible to get cancer from throat damage?

Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has a history with bulimia and might attribute your heart problems to bulimic activity? I've started experiencing PVC's and NSVT about 1 year ago, and had a 10-year history with bulimia during my teen/college years. I've stopped for over 5 years now, but am wondering if it's possible that I damaged my heart in some way.
Avatar m tn Often eating disorders can revolve around control, fear, and self-loathing, which after sexual abuse can be triggered in a person. But trully, there is no 1 proven cause for bulimia, there are only theories and similarities between bulimics, but cases can be different for each person.
Avatar n tn I have been a struggling with bulimia on and off for about 10 years. More recently, I am suffering with anxiety pain in my ride side and insomnia collectively. Could this be related to the long term effects of bulimia and what should I do first.
Avatar f tn The recurrent use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain is another essential feature of Bulimia. Many individuals with Bulimia employ several methods in their attempt to compensate for binge eating. The most common compensatory technique is self-induced vomiting after an episode of binge eating. The immediate effects of vomiting include relief from physical discomfort and reduction of fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn ive suffered with bulimia on & off since i was 10. for the last 3 years it gotten worse but ive just met someone who i would love to start a family with. i just dont know if i have ruined my chances because of my disorder.
1560494 tn?1294843840 I believe that digestive problems are linked to bulima. I have read this somewhere. I also have suffered from bulimia for many years, and have been diagnosed with Irritable Boweld Disease, but now I have come to realize that my digestive problems are from my bulimia. I have messed up my body so much that I have to take something everyday in order to go to the bathroom, if I don't I will go days without.

Avatar f tn To be considered bulimia there needs to be bingeing episodes and compensatory behaviors, such as, vomiting, excessive exercise, laxative abuse, etc. The following is the DSM IV TR criteria for Bulimia Nervosa, purging and nonpurging type: Recurrent episodes of binge eating characterized by both: Eating, in a discrete period of time (e.g.
Avatar f tn Whether or not it's bulimia, I hope you'll seek treatment for it quickly. There are precise diagnostic criteria for eating disorders like bulimia, but don't get hung up on that. Given what you're doing and how you seem to feel about it, you should get yourself evaluated. The sooner treatment starts, the faster and easier it tends to be.
Avatar f tn Good for you to have stopped the vomiting behavior. Bulimia does cause cardia arrest - sudden death. Eating disorders can be linked to heart problems. The important things are that you are not purging and you are under a cardiologist care.
Avatar n tn I have just recently accepted that I have bulimia. Its been going on for 2 1/2 years now, sometimes once a day, once every other day or once a week. It really varies on my mood. I am lucky to have the support of a loving husband and have decided to really try and get control of it. Its been a few weeks now and hard, but pulling through with no episodes. But my question is, in that amont of time ive been bulimic, how much damage has it done to my body.
1438232 tn?1283867965 It is a miracle that all you are experiencing is a headache and weakness after 20 years battling bulimia. It is expected for your body to start losing its strength after fighting this for so long. But its never too late to turn things around. Vitamins can certainly help, but they can only be absorbed if there are other vitamins and minerals in your body. Right now your body is asking to take a look at the root of it all.
Avatar f tn That is awesome! Good for you! I used to struggle with bulimia as a teenager but it has not been an issue since being pregnant. Im 40 weeks now and have gained a healthy 35 pounds. I still absolutely hate going to the grocery store though! I can't tell if it's because I'm just a picky eater or have less of an appetitite being pregnant.
Avatar f tn Thinking about trying Lexapro for generalized anxiety. Any advice or experiences? I have previously tried Buspar (had no effect) and Zoloft which made me constantly nauseous.
Avatar n tn Sure, but you are going to gain it all back unless you plan to purge for the rest of your life which is HORRIBLE for anybodys health. I can't begin to explain all the negative health effects that this can cause.
