Lexapro for bulimia

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro for bulimia

lexapro

I have been taking Lexapro no for just over a week and i'm having the same symptoms, I spoke to a doctor about this and he said it was part of the depression, but i've only been feeling like this since i start taking the meds.
the weight gain with effexor and then even more so with lexapro. I was on effexor for approx a year+, then on lexapro for only 3months...I started to gain weight and it's taken me 7 months after not taking any of the meds to lose 7 pounds. I've always been obsessive with excercise and dieting, yet none of this has helped....soooo frustrating. I just got back on prozac and the weight is starting to drop...
is celexa just for depression?? or does it also help with anxiety's?? is this one on the bottom of the list?? like zoloft,paxil,lexapro,prozac..this is in the same category as these others....please explain this??
I don't think that a longterm treatment with a benzodiazepine is possible without built-up a tolerance and have addiction BUT I know some peoples who use them since more than 20 years and dont have tolerance and addiction to those meds and they take the same dose since all those years and it's working good for their anxiety! Everyone is different. For me, it's another story...
If you cannot do it for you, do it for your son initially. To learn more about bulimia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
It started out with Tourettes and OCD but as i've gone through some trauma GAD and SAD has developed and is destroying me. As of right now i'm taking Lexapro, Busiprone, Xanax (as needed), and Gabapentin. I'm 18 years old and i'm having great difficulties even finishing with online classes. I seek assistance for alternative medications or treatments that may help these symptoms. I simply wish i could be my old self like 3 years ago. I'm almost a completely different person now..
I had a second opinion with a neuro in my area about 5 years ago, the exam was horrible (had me hyperventilate for one thing to see if all my symptoms were d/t anxiety etc), and he said that lots of women my age suffer from anxiety/depression and offered me Lexapro which I declined. I'm already on elavil low dose for the migraines. My pcp said he disagrees and i'm not depressed, and i know i'm not.
I have a very strong point of view that in situations like this, where you been struggling with binging and bulimia for so long, that you have to deal with the obsession with food that is a mental phenomena and will not be controlled by medication. I recently posted a video of one of the members of the shrinkyourself.com program who ended 10 years of binging in 12 weeks using the program.
I have been on zoloft and lexapro in the past. Everything is a temprary fix. What meds have been working for others? I can't turn to alcohol and self injury or binging/purging (I'm also struggling with bulimia) everytime I'm down. It is ruining my relationships with friends and family, I have constant guilt about things that aren't even my issues. I am irritated and hate dealing with people--and I work with customer service so you can see how that stresses/irritates/angers me.
Thank you for your comment. I do realize that bulimia is not a good for the whole body. I think I may take your suggestion and read the couple of books you recommended. I wish I could stop now, but my heart is just not in it yet. I've only been bulimic for about 7-8 months. I don't wish to keep this way of life, but everyday I eat something small. Then I start eating more and by then I say why not have more. Then I know I've eaten way too much and realize I could just make myself sick.
That being said, I was on Lexapro for anxiety about chest pains that couldn't be figured out and so my exercise level plumented. I was too scared to exercise because of my "heart condition" (which is NONE!!). Gaining weight is basically too many calories in and not enough calories out. I have a few friends on different anti-depressents, none and I seriously mean NONE have gained any weight. If you find yourself eating more, exercise more.
In 1999, I sought help for anorexia and bulimia with a college campus counselor. The eating disorder behaviors alleviated my anxiety. The counselor wasn't too bright, ended up telling me "you're going to have a heart attack and die" and two days later I landed in the ER with my first of many panic attacks.
Countless symptoms basically too many to say. But anyway at the end of junior year I got put on 20 mg of lexapro for panic, that didn't help, couldn't come out of the house for a 6 month period. After lexapro we tried Zoloft and abilify which made everything worse. Started me on 60 mg of cymbalta which totally turned my life around I got out was basically a normal kid, I got to go to my senior year not 100% but I was ok. I even played hockey again for a period of time.
I have been reading alot about 5HTP lately. It claims to help with all the things I have. Insomnia, Fibromyalgia, Depression, Chronic Fatigue, Anxiety. I am on Effexor XR and Lunesta and would like to come off of both of them. Have you heard anything good or bad that you can share with me about 5HTP?
I am a mental health professional and have suffered MDD/dysthymia (SAD related) for many years and have been on antidepressants for about 7 years due to life stressors etc. (strong family hx of depression). been on Wellbutriin off and on since 2004. after particularly difficult stressors past summer (with suicidal ideation)my MD doubled my dose to 300 mg Wellbutrin XL.
at my last visit the dr prescribed zoloft cuz he said the xanex everyday is really not good. I have a history of bulimia so im afriad to gain weight with this medication (zoloft) does anyone have any suggestions?
Depression can and does cause pain, I know because I suffer with depression, have tried many different kinds and currently on Lexapro. I also take Remeron at bedtime. I think it is a good time for you to see a Dr. abt. the depression and see if perhaps he will help you. I see my phychiatrist every two months and sooner if necessary. My pain levels are much improved now too. Try Aleve soft gels for in-between pain. Please see a Dr. abt.
i have been put on 40 mg of adderall xr for A.D.D., i also have a past history of diagnosed anorexia and bulimia, bipolar, depression and panic disorder. I am also on lamictal for bipolar and xanax for panic attacks. my resting heart rate has been going up to 130 when on adderall, which is kinda weird because i'm a dancer,i used to dance 5 days away at my studio and about 15 hours a week. i haven't been dancing as much lately though because of my depression.
It's important that patients on these medicines don't stop taking their medicines because serious side effects can occur, such as worsening of the depressive symptoms that they initially took them for, including thoughts of suicide for some patients. This is just one study that will be further examined. The great thing is that it's been published in the Public Library of Science online journal.
My anxiety really started off with a mild case of bulimia. I don't even really believe it was bulimia because I wouldn't really binge, only purge in an effort to get my mind off of the anxiety I was feeling over cheating on my boyfriend. This lasted a full two years from the ages of 20-22. I have had anxiety since I was a senior in college (21 years old). It started only in the mornings, after I would drink alcohol.
loss of sleep and I certainly don't feel as well as I did on Lexapro, but just like you, I was on Lexapro for eight months and I gained over 25 lbs, if it wasn't for the weight gain itself...I would go back on Lexapro. I go back to the doctor next month (October), I'll see what she suggests. I haven't had any seizures but I do experience headaches every day and this stupid "blushing" that comes with the headaches.
Hi guys, I really am desperate for help. I have never felt so helpless & scared in my life. I know it's a long read, I'm hoping you will be patient with me. For 2 years, I've been experiencing what I refer to as attacks/episodes which last generally between 5 - 7 days. They are horrific to say the least. Whenever I describe the symptoms, they don't sound nearly as bad as they feel. The feeling truly is horrible.
I am on Wellbutrin XL 300 mg and Topamax 25 mg (going up to 50 next week) once a day for depression/anxiety. I was on Wellbutrin and Lexapro for two months, but that combination made me GAIN 10 pounds in a month! I felt like eating all the time, and it didn't make sense to me since Wellbutrin is supposed to cause weight loss!
I've been a bulimic for the last seven years... the week I started taking Ultram for pain, my bulimia almost disappeared! I also felt happier and less nervous. I was very honest about it with my doctor and he was willing to do a trial prescribing me Ultram for my bulimia, and it's helped unimaginably. I've never gotten withdrawal symptoms either... sometimes I don't take them for a couple days and it's never affected me physically or mentally (besides the return of my bulimia).
I take zoloft for OCD/Bulimia along with Buspar and Inderal for anxiety and high blood pressure (as a result of my constant anxiety) and I have to say that I have to FORCE myself to eat on zoloft because I have ZERO appetite which is the extreme opposite of me a few months ago when I would binge on over 5,000 calories about 5 times a day. I have no impulse to eat, I have no desire to binge...amazingly I have lost 14 lbs since being on zoloft without even trying.
Everyone I asked for help assumed I was exaggerating my workout routine. Three weeks ago I stopped the Lexapro which the Dr. had initially hoped to transition me over to. I feel a little less bloated, and I can feel the muscle underneath the fat which is better than before, so I think some of the bloating was due to the Lexapro. The weight has leveled off to 30s pound over my target (that is, my weight 4 years ago).
I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...also could this drug alter my brain function since I know it is used for bi-polar and seizure disorder...
I have never moved moutains as fast as today. I feel Debbie - what was offered medically with this doctor I talked with today will definately be a step in the right direction. Here is some keys points you and I discussed to get this doctor the information she needs to do the evaluation if you chose to see her next week. 1. gather up her recent labs she had done and get a hardcopy of the report. A. - look that over and see if the Free T3 and Free T4 along with TSH was done. 1a.
I could easily get a prescription for Topamax as I have migraines and my doc and I talked about it at our last visit. I would also LOVE the weight loss side effect. Anyone that has or is taking Topamax - does it make you feel nervous? Does it make your heart beat faster and/or palpitations? I have anxiety so I can't use it if it will make me more nervous. Anybody have bad side effects from Topamax?
