Lexapro dosage for gad

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro dosage for gad

lexapro

Avatar f tn Well, first of all, you don't have to do what a doctor recommends. You can say no. Once you start the medications, depending on how long you've been on them, it's not that easy to just stop them, but you can if you want if you've only been taking them a very short time. I'm assuming you also suffer from anxiety, though you don't say so, otherwise the Xanax would make no sense.
1295419 tn?1276822872 Hi, I have been taking Lexapro for severe GAD for the last 3 weeks. I do notice a difference and I have not been obsessing over things as much as before. However I still do have anxiety, especially in the mornings. In others experience, does this continue to get better? I know it can take 4-6 weeks to reach optimal effects. I just didn't know if the Lexapro would only take the edge off and I would still continue to have anxiety. Any input would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had been on Lexapro for 3 years with no problems for GAD. Last month it stopped working and I started having panic attacks. My Dr. put me on Zoloft at 50mg for a week then upped it to 100mg. I was also put on .5 of XANAX 3 times a day. I constantly have tremors from the moment I wake up and am exhustated all day. I went to the Dr. today and she is dropping me back down to 50mg with the theory I will be put on another SSRI.
1423878 tn?1282883632 Cymbalta can be quite stimulating for someone with GAD but yeah it can work well. Lexapro is indeed a good choice due to it's long half-life.
Avatar m tn im not sure of the dosage, i have to pick it up tomorrow. a specialist put me on it. im on it b/c lexapro isnt working that great for my intrusive thoughts.
Avatar n tn For me, whenever I started/stopped/adjusted dosage of an SSRI like Lexapro, I would always be a little more on edge for awhile. When I first started, it really took me about a month or so to actually feel a little more relaxed. Many times, your doctor will prescribe a benzo like ativan to use while you are starting an SSRI on an as needed basis which can come in handy...
535882 tn?1396576685 I am not that familiar with either one but you say you have been taking the lexapro for 10 days so see if it will work for you. I would give it a month or two anyways and then if it doesn't seem to be helping try the Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn I take Lexapro, I was also Diagnosed with GAD, and I was diagnosed with ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, Lexapro dosnt really have any side effects, but one thing I notice, is that my anxiety seems to no longer be a extreme issue, except during high levels of drama and such. It does make me drowsy, and for me, works 24/7 I dont really notice the side effects for me, only one I can really feel is the drowsy/tired feeling, it makes me want to go to bed.. But this is just me.
Avatar m tn This is the common way to dose Lexapro. 10mg is the manufacturer's suggested dose for depression, and 20mg for anxiety. Your psychiatrist was working up slowly to see how you reacted. Give it some time and see how it works; if the problems don't go away, perhaps this isn't your med. It made me pretty weird, too, at times, but as far as antidepressants go wasn't too bad for side effects. Just didn't work well enough for me.
Avatar m tn I Have been on Lexapro for about six weeks now and I really dont feel better. The only way that I can get through the day is with the help of xanax. I am just wondering if anyone on this site has tried lexapro and just to see if it worked with anyone. My doctor said that I had GAD so I was just wondering as well what other medications could be suitable for this other than lexapro. I really want something to work because I really want to try to get off the xanax as soon as I can.
Avatar f tn I started taking anti depressant meds a few years ago to combat GAD and panic disorder. I took lexapro for a while but have been taking effexor for the past couple years at 225mg. Recently, my anxiety level has been terrible and I can't even make it through the day so my doctor gave me lorazepam for the attacks. In the past week or so it's gotten so bad that in addition to my nighly meds, I'm taking 2mg of lorazepam 2-3 times a day, which is making me loopy and exhausted.
Avatar m tn since i was 27 i was convinced i had ADD, lack of focus, trouble retaining what i read. He said he can tell i do not have ADD, but he diagnosed me with GAD(generalized anxiety Disorder. he prescribed me lexapro and so far i feel great. i feel as if my brain is not in a cloudy state. i do feel headachy some times but it seems like i am nnot as jumpy as before and people have taken notice. i am not saying this is what it is, but it does seem to be helping dramatically.
497348 tn?1283436066 I have been on several meds, as well as meds for anxiety as I have GAD, too. A year ago, my doc switched me from Celexa to Zoloft( which I had been on for years, since the mid 90s). Well, we just switched back as I experienced what he called " Zoloft failure". In a year, I went from 50 mg to 200 mg ( max dose) and was miserable. I just switched back to Celexa, about 2 weeks ago and am already feeling better. . I also take Klonopin ( .5 mg three times a day ) for the anxiety.
Avatar m tn While Xanax is good for the occasional panic attack, it is not the best drug for GAD over the long haul. Klonopin would be better for the long term control of your anxiety. Most Drs prefer it over the Xanax anyways. If you have to keep bumping the Xanax you will end up on high doses and it will become extremely difficult to come off of.
1255936 tn?1296623461 What is the dose for treatment of such disorders and not just a low dose for sleeping? I hear 25mg is really not high enough to be effective for GAD or anything else other than a sleeping aid (why anyone would take a anti-psych for a sleep aid is beyond me). I hear that 200-300 mg is the dose for treating GAD, BP, and depression. I will be seeing my doc tomorrow to discuss increasing the dosage. Any input from anyone on the "front lines" would be awesome! Cheers!
Avatar f tn I'm on Zoloft but not for GAD. I have panic disorder although I felt more like it was GAD. its worked wonders for me.

Avatar f tn How good is Lexapro for anxiety? How long does it take to work? Does it cause gastrointestinal problems? It is difficult to stop when the time comes? Is valium better? Any help and comments will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn If you only suffer from GAD and a little depression you might want to give pristiq and buspar a try. I know Buspar alone is just for GAD. and of course pristiq is an antidepressant. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn One week at 20mg Lexapro for anxiety, what is a fair amount of time togain full results. Hoping to not increase dosage.
Avatar m tn Have you started tapering down your dosage per your doctor's instructions? Just make sure you are not adjusting dosage or quitting it without talking to your doctor first; just ensure you follow his/her instructions. Doing it on your own can cause many unpleasant symptoms that you would not really have to endure if you take it as prescribed.
Avatar f tn Lexapro takes about for to six weeks to work, and it does take time when you up the dosage. Usually modern dosing, to play it safe, is to go up by 5mg increments, 10mg for depression, 20 mg for anxiety. I agree with the above, it's always better if you can solve the problem without medication because medication just covers up the symptoms, but if you can't solve it any other way and need medication you do have to give it a chance and you do have to put up with side effects.
Avatar m tn I have had Gad for more than six months now. I really do not get much relief from my meds. I only get good rest and relief from my symtoms is when I am sleeping. I am just wondering if Gad a cureable disease or is it something I am going to have to live with for the rest of my life? I am 19 years old and I would love to be able to go out and have fun rather than just sit home because I feel terrible all the time. No one understands how I feel and always tell me to just not worry about it.
